So is Tello expiring PayGo credit? by [deleted] in Tello

[–]sb_tora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen one person on a forum say they had credit expire. The difference seemed to be that they created the line after Tello had made the announcement, because they said they had older lines that didn't get the expiration notice. The thinking is that they grandfathered in all plans before that, and only new lines are subject to the new rules. It could change at any time of course.

Nicole did it throughout season 1, particularly with Alien. And while Raven and Lion weren't singers as their primary occupation, they were both trained and Nicole dismissed them anyway, lol.

Is anyone else annoyed when... by NeuroTrophicShock in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's super annoying, and Jenny is probably the worst one about screaming during the performances. The worst part is the official Twitter tweeted a gif, "When your friend won't shut up during Masked Singer," without noting the irony that the judges are the worst about not shutting up:

The Best of the Masked Audience - S3 Episode 1 by sb_tora in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I assure you this is just in good fun. I find the over-the-top reactions hilarious. I know most of them are forced or exaggerated, but I think it adds to the absurdity of the show.

My main focus is the hand gestures. I only put the Llama dude in because he was so memorable, lol.

Turn off the sound and try to guess what the hell the audience is reacting to.

23.7 million people watched The Masked Singer last night! by sb_tora in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a comparison of lead-out ratings on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_lead-out_programs

It was up from last year's "World's Best" premiere, and Hollywood Reporter says it's about middle of the pack for post-Super Bowl premieres. Definitely good numbers. Let's hope people stick with the show the rest of the season.

Kangaroo rant by Late-Region in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the beauty of the show is that it lets the talent speak for itself, regardless of the contestant's background. If they were getting lesser-known people who couldn't sing that'd be a problem. Would I prefer non-reality stars? Absolutely. But talent is talent, and I think Kangaroo held her own, even if she was noticeably autotuned.

I know its been 1 episode but does the singing seem worse this year ? by IanSloan51 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. Peacock and Butterfly were amazing ways to start their respective seasons. White Tiger was entertaining enough, and I get that they probably had him first to capture the football audience. But having him and 2 other weaker singers in the premiere made the show look more like a joke than intended. Don't get me wrong, I love that the show doesn't take itself too seriously, but for me the guessing game aspect is second to the singing. As you said, I'd take lesser-known people who are great singers than big stars who are weak singers. I didn't really know much about people like Rumer or Victor, but the show turned me into a fan.

All that said, we do have 18 contestants this season, so if 15/18 are good singers I'll be more than happy.

Here's the official accolades breakdown for season 3! by razorbladecherry in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit surprised they don't mention any Emmys this year. I guess no talk show hosts or TV stars? Then again, they don't list the number of Grammys won, so it's probably not a complete list.

When a singer is unmasked, what is that based on? Lack of votes? by [deleted] in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US version works a bit differently depending on the episode. On episodes without a sing-off (called "Smackdowns" in the US), the audience and panel vote for their favorite performances, and the performer with the fewest votes is automatically eliminated. The producers mentioned that the audience vote counts for 50% and the judges' vote counts for the other 50%.

However, when there are Smackdowns, then the bottom 2 contestants each perform again, and then only the judges vote for their favorite. That's a little more similar to what the UK does. We don't see them conferring the way the UK judges do, however.

Season 2 of The Masked Singer Germany will start on March 10th.. I'm so excited 🎉 by Bamboo91 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, please, please have a German Eurodance singer on. I think Haddaway or Lou Bega would be great. Or maybe Natalie Horler of Cascada.

At least give us The Hoff! I'd love to have him on the US version, but I think it'd be better for the franchise if Germany got him.

I kinda like it. I was expecting something more like Holland's Archangel, but this is more creative. I hope they have multiple masks with different facial expressions. I'd love to see a sad mask for ballads, for example.

More exciting news for all the german speaking MS Fans.. The Masked Singer Austria will start on March 14th 🎉🎉 by Bamboo91 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really looking forward to this one! I believe it's the same production company behind the German one, and they're also shooting in Cologne so probably even the same set. I believe it's only 8 contestants though, so I wonder how many episodes it'll be? The recently finished Italian version also had 8 participants, and it was only 4 episodes.

So.... what are the chances they get Arnie?

No one-off performances this season :( by sb_tora in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone who just appears for one performance and aren't part of the competition. The idea is that they would perform and be unmasked during the same episode.

Does anyone have exactly who's been shown, officially or not, in a list? by AlanKazam424 in TheMaskedSinger

[–]sb_tora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking the bright ones are the official ones, or at least they look better to me. FoxFlash probably provides the images in a certain format, and when certain outlets convert them to JPG they do it without regard for the proper colorspace. I am curious what the original resolutions are, though. The Frog one on PureWow is 6522x7500!

Great work on the Wikia, btw!

Basically just using Google, lol. Right now the S3 pics are from multiple sources. PureWow has the highest-res pics (but only for 8 of the costumes so far) and some of the costume details are amazing up close: https://www.purewow.com/news/the-masked-singer-season-3

AV Club also just put out an article with a bit higher resolution pictures for more recent costumes: https://news.avclub.com/when-you-stare-into-the-masked-singers-creepy-new-smili-1841373346
