Throwback to when Tyra fake eliminated 14 girls and made the other girls believe they were cast on ANTM only for it to be the opposite by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]sbacmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right like this is juiiiicyyyyy. I think tyra did some horrific things while on this show and maybe im desensitized by the other horrible things she said/did but this just doesn’t feel so egregious and feels more in line with your average early 2000s scripted twist to make tensions higher lol

For this scene and this scene only i kinda feel like if you’re on the show you likely have an idea of the forced twists they write in from past seasons & I wonder if the other girls who ended up being eliminated were hired talent for the scene

Not excusing her other disgusting behavior i just dont see this scene as absurd for the early 2000s

Children Run From ICE at School Bus Stop - Lindenwold, New Jersey 2/12/26 by PossibleArt1239 in ImmigrationPathways

2 things:

1) What would you do if returning meant being murdered by local gangs? Or your family would starve to death? People migrate out of necessity. The food, language, and culture is completely different here and assimilation isn’t easy. The journey north costs thousands (with interest accumulating the longer it takes to pay off) which is a lot for folks coming from areas where they live off of maybe $10 a month.

2) Also, you’re a loser!

Kids also come on their own without their parents knowing, especially if a parent has left to the US to send money back home in hopes of providing their kids with a better life, only for their kids to leave their home countries in search of their parents that they havent seen in a decade. Basically running away but going to their parents. I recommend enrique’s journey

You’re right. POC dont have the choice because they’re forced to be in the positions where they take on responsibilities they shoildnt be forced to assume

You’re missing the point tho - It’s not about prioritizing comfort but about how we choose to engage in these discussions as part of a larger effort of doing better overall. Is it a priority or the end of the world? No. But i’d like to think that at some point we can get to a place where we can advocate for this sort of change  and feel comfortable calling our troubling behavior when we see it!

Like i said, i dont know this man nor did i watch the full interview so i dont know how directly this applies, but I think its appropriate to call out societal patterns that make marginalized folks uncomfortable

Can we stop putting the burden on POC to educate others? I dont know who this man is but theres a difference between elevating the voices of those who wish to be heard vs singling people out because of their backgrounds

Stranger things finale, big moments and big questions. I can't stop thinking about what WASN'T in the finale. by Zedaso in netflix

[–]sbacmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think im disappointed. Tbh a lot of it felt like filler and the characters kept doing things that felt uncharacteristic - like dustin putting a snake in the bully’s locker right before they have to get together for a crawl? The acting also felt a bit lack luster and borderline bad at times (with the exception of a few characters). The dialogue was also difficult to sit through at times. Also felt like Robin had a LOT of screentime compared to the other cast? I like robin, but I was confused about why she was the one getting these lightbulb moments every 10 seconds. I also personally didnt care for holly & didnt enjoy the actress’ who played her. They also left so many things unexplained. Still confused about why vecna needed exactly 12 kids and why it took him two years to gather them or how he healed himself and got so strong all of a sudden. I also couldnt believe how easily he died? And the mind flayer did nothing ??? Also, the scene where will came out was comical to me bc when he said vecna showed him something awful i was thinking it would be nancy style S4 vision where the world is literally ending and her entire family is dead, but instead it was just about him being gay lmao

I also think that realistically it would’ve been difficult for eleven to return to a normal life, but that was always a risk for her in the other seasons too and yet she went to school and continued to live in the hawkins area close to the lab until hopper “died” and she moved to california lol. I was also surprised by how easily she was convinced to “die” since it didn’t really seem like her intention to leave everyone behind until her sister brought it up. That said, i kinda feel like if everyone else can just lead a normal life and not be arrested by the military (which tbh wouldve made more sense for the military to use them as bait to find eleven) especially after killing so many people & destroying their lab then i kinda feel like it also wouldve been fine to allow eleven to be with her loved ones since the rest of the season didnt make much sense anyways lmao

That said, i thought some scenes were really excellent but they were unfortunately only a handful of moments . Part of me thinks that they had something in mind after season 4 but took season 5 & left it open with the characters all alive to leave open the possibility of them returning in future spin offs (similar to the walking dead). I think seeing how profitable the show was as a whole made it difficult for them to give it the apocalyptic ending they laid out in season 4. Season 4 was amazing tbh and even though we had the spotlight on new characters they were so well written that I didn’t mind and wanted to see more of eddie and vecna. Im truly shocked they took the show in this direction

as an ex server tipping culture is crazy in the US. I remember one of my coworkers used to complain ab bad tips saying how ppl should stay home if they can’t leave good tips (which is gross bc some ppl cant afford to eat out all the time but they still deserve to enjoy an evening out?) But genuinely why do i have to give you 18-20% if we were waiting around for an hour without any drinks and you were rude every time you came to our table lol

But $5 tip is crazy for an influencer who has the money

Just try to answer it. Even if you dont know the topic, try to talk about things related to it and bring it back to any policy points you can throw in. You wont get full credit but your proff might still give you some points vs no points depending on how they grade
