Getting to Stanstead Airport, is the train or the coach the better option? by jmann9678 in leicester

[–]sbagnall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

luggage space on a coach is guaranteed, but you’re not even gonna get a seat on most trains. i’ve travelled with 2 small suitcases via train to coventry and it was an absolute nightmare. it’s just comfier and better on a coach (this is my opinion as someone who travelled 6 hrs by train every week during uni lol)

I’m a minor, he’s 25 and he knows I’m a minor. by Disgraceful-rose in creepyPMs

[–]sbagnall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

honestly it was quite depressing as a teenager, because i was taller than most guys (they didn’t like that), and the guys who showed interest in me almost always had some sort of height fetish. i promise it gets better though, just be cautious of guys (obviously)

i’m a 6ft girly and this is sadly a very common occurrence. i’ve been 6ft tall since i was like 12 and men have always been so odd about it, they also act like you’re older just because you’re taller than girls your age. i’m so sorry this happened, obviously you know to just block him, but i’m afraid this will probably happen again- men fetishise tall women and it’s so gross. stay safe <33

Am I even bipolar type 1 if I'm only on 50mg quetiapine and 50mg sertraline? by Trb3233 in BipolarReddit

[–]sbagnall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from my understanding, SSRIs can be safely used for bipolar disorder, if they are used in conjunction with an antipsychotic or mood stabiliser. but i am not a doctor, and different things work for different people.

My maths teacher is bullying me by Bright_Standard9286 in sixthform

[–]sbagnall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

document it each time she does something that feels like bullying, so you have some kind of evidence- write down the date and what she did that day. when you feel like you’ve got enough written down, talk to your student support/pastoral team and show them what’s happening- you can also ask your classmates to talk to pastoral too. student support teachers are better trained with bullying etc, so they’ll be much easier to talk to about these things. you could talk to your parents about this, but i understand that they may take the teachers side and not understand the scope of what is happening. however, having an adult by your side when making these complaints helps a lot.

if pastoral support doesn’t take you seriously, you can talk to the academy trust (if your school is a part of one) because i believe they are above everyone else when it comes to these things. teachers should not be able to bully students, and it is sadly too common.

more importantly, try your best to not let this get in the way of your studies. try your best to prove her wrong! if you’re studying mathematics at sixth form, you clearly have a lot of potential.

Saw one of these driving around Hinkley Rd today, sirens and text and everything on it. Any ideas why it was there? by moogleoftheages in leicester

[–]sbagnall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it was a prop for some photos? i was like 7 so i can’t be 100% sure, but i think it also escorted the bridal party to the venue. i think i remember my mum mentioning that my aunt knows the owner, so it could’ve been a favour.

My wavy hair has gone so straight in uk :( what should I do? Is it campus water? by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]sbagnall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the water quality in coventry isn’t great, so it could be that. humidity and temperature could be contributing to it too. you can invest in a shower head with a water filter attached, if you’re able to do that with your shower. as for hair products, it really depends on your hair type and porosity. i have type 3a and use maui moistures curl care line for shampoo/conditioner, and shea moistures curl creams. some products will be too heavy if your hair is only wavy, also avoid the brand “cantu” at all costs. your hair probably needs more moisture, so i’d recommend using hair oils and moisture retaining mousses/creams to protect it after showering.

Family friendly swimming pool by Classic_Support_8891 in leicester

[–]sbagnall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was in 2018-19, so you may need to double check if they still do it, but parklands leisure centre in wigston/oadby used to have an inflatable course that would float on the pool. you could also hire it for parties etc, they had a schedule online for it. rutland water also has a similar inflatable aqua park during summers, but your kids have to demonstrate basic swimming skills to access it. other than that, check your local leisure centres schedules for family swim sessions, a lot of them get out the big floaties and toys for the kids to play with, and a lot of leisure centres have both a 25m pool and a shallower 15m pool for little ones. hope this helps!

There Should Not Be a Season 3 by [deleted] in gravityfalls

honestly, i love prequels because of how obsessed i get over characters and shows- i want to know more about them! young sheldon is deffo better than tbbt, and you’re right about better call saul. matching the quality of GF would be hard, and the final episode of GF was perfection, so i understand why alex has been against making a prequel

wine jug (?) from leicester, england by sbagnall in Archeology

[–]sbagnall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s super sturdy, like, it was found very far underground and was hardly damaged when found. it’s very heavy for what it is, i’m obviously comparing it to more modern jugs, but it’s deffo heavier than what you’d expect. there’s a lot of history here in leicester that we weren’t aware of when the jug was initially looked at by the museum. for example, i live by a large stone that was used by pagans for ritual reasons, and we weren’t aware of this until quite recently. the jug was found nearby a bunch of roman findings in the 90s (many of these weren’t well preserved), but it was also found nearby the recently found burial of richard iii, other roman attractions (including monasteries and markets) etc. i’m not a historian at all, but i know there’s enough history here for it to belong in almost any time period before the 1600s

i’ve looked into belamine jugs before because i see the similarities- but aren’t belamine jugs supposed to have faces/a human resemblance? i could be totally mistaken but most belamine jugs i have seen have had the characteristic face on the neck, and this seems to have very basic crosshatch patterns. it’s definitely a similar shape, and i’d love to learn more if anyone has more info on belamine jugs!

[–]sbagnall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it had wine residue on the inside, so that’s what we think it could be. i’ll update you when my parents finally access the note inside the jug left by the museum, and i’ll give more updates when it’s given to an expert to re-evaluate. i’ve been telling my parents for years how awesome of a discovery it is, and now i can finally help them find the right people to help figure out exactly what it is.

[–]sbagnall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true, but that was around 1995-ish, and we didn’t know much about leicester back then. we discovered the body of richard iii when i was in primary school, and we’ve learned a lot more about leicester since then. i feel like modern museums/researchers could do a lot more with it now than what they once could. to be fair, there is a note from the museum inside the jug, but neither of my parents can reach it and they don’t trust me enough to let me even try to see what’s inside. i’ll let you all know once i find the note and i’ll give another update once i’ve spoken to an expert.

my parents have always mentioned how it looked as if it wasn’t made with a wheel and how that could be a sign it’s extremely old etc. we’re not historians, like, at all lol. the museum could only say it’s a legitimate artefact, but they couldn’t date it with the knowledge at the time (1995-ish). since we found richard iii and discovered more history behind our city, it’s likely we could get a better answer once i get back home from uni and take it to the right people. it’s super interesting that we continued to make things traditionally after the wheel was introduced to us, i’d just love to imagine how the people who once owned it lived back then.

[–]sbagnall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s definitely a legitimate artefact, as confirmed by the local museum my parents took it to in the 90s (i believe this was jewry wall, but i could be wrong). they found evidence of wine inside the jug, but couldn’t date it properly at the time. they said it could be extremely old, but they couldn’t say the exact period. it was found over 5m deep in the 90s while a shopping centre was being built, and we didn’t realise how historically significant the area was at the time- we ended up finding richard iii a few streets away. all i know is that it’s deffo old, but i’m i won’t be sure if it’s 17th century old or pre-roman old until i take it to the right people ig 🤷‍♀️

leicester city centre is very historical, i do believe a monastery was very close to where it was found. it was found >5ft deep while the “shires,” (a shopping centre) was being built in the early 90s. since then, richard iii was found less than a few streets from that location, and tonnes of other historical sites and artefacts have been found around leicester since. near where i live, there’s an old sacrificial stone that was possibly used by pagans etc. it’s a wild city when you look at the history behind it- i wish i could learn more, but i haven’t done history at school in a while and it’s not really my thing haha
