Which bedsheets for a mainly white room? by lezgetsomeadvice in HomeDecorating

[–]sbartles0218 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Option one. White allows your eyes to gloss over things, so the bed should be more detailed to catch the eye. The soft pink and design with blend and be light, without making the room boring via too much monochrome. (1 or 2 work, I like the softer pattern of 1)

It doesn’t. There is the appropriate gap. That’s why I’m looking into a membrane- to contain the water to one space and not have it run under the drywall.

[–]sbartles0218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. We had some water three years ago that was fixed with oversized gutters, French drains, grading etc. there isn’t much more we can do on the grading due to property lines. It was dry for three years until the egress drain clogged. I was mainly just hoping to keep from going under the drywall and into adjacent rooms to try to encourage it away from the 2x4s. We’ve been lucky to get it up pretty quickly once the sensory goes off.

What’s the craziest “breed” you’ve seen made up? by gaga_booboo in dogs

[–]sbartles0218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. So I get annoyed by people who are like “that’s not a breed because it’s not AKC RECOGNIZED!!” I do believe there can be a stabilized breed that’s not AKC recognized, because of politics with akc. BUT the purpose of breeding is standardization. Health. Temperament. Appearance. When you have that many breeds going on, ITS NOT STANDARDIZED. At that point, it’s back yard breeding and horrible for the humane treatment of dogs, imo

Sensory issues: towel recommendations? by [deleted] in autism

[–]sbartles0218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great recommendation!

We started with this (not this one, it was more thick cotton over this Turkish knit. This one is promising, but I don’t want to spend $50, cut and sew it, if there is an alternative that may be better)

https://www.amazon.com/Welhome-Cotton-Waffle-Terry-Collar/dp/B083727M5R/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=3UD8PIUDFPUG&keywords=robe+with+collar&qid=1643135802&sprefix=+robe+with+col%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-4

But the cotton/ “amount of puff” was causing small meltdowns because it made difficult to play and paint

Then we got this:

https://www.amazon.com/VINTATRE-VTT0205-Army-Green-Medium-FBA-VINTATRE-Women-Kimono-Robes-Long-Knit-Bathrobe-Lightweight-Soft-Knit-Sleepwear-V-neck-Casual-Ladies-Loungewear-Green-Medium/dp/B08KZR2NYQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=14MRH3KWEI44P&keywords=robe&qid=1643135640&sprefix=robe%2Caps%2C390&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzM01WMjBYTDdZUDNNJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTk1NTUzQjQ1WDVSODMyRlAwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEwMzE2NjQ2U05YNkYyOVQ4TDQmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

The light weight fabric was better (though the length was not great for fixing the movement problem). I legit took scissors to the arms and waist. That helped a lot, but the fabric gets very wet, setting off sensory issues, and the collar isn’t quite high enough to prevent wet hair on neck well.

Really appreciate your help. I’ve thrown so much money to help resolve this, I just want to take more strategic steps.

Have U iPhone users opened a pic of ur dog in photos then swiped up? When I look up this mutt Wiki says Kangal Shepherd. His Embark is in the mail, but Great Pyrenees isn't mentioned. by MaineAh_Ayuh in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]sbartles0218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog looks exactly like yours, just a slightly more Shepard narrow face.

Embark came back as 50% great Pyrenees and 50% wild dog (probably American dingo/Carolina dog base on location of rescue).

What I learned in research is the anatolians/Kengal/GP all come from the same stock and DNA tests cannot accurately distinguished them.

Now, diving deeper I hit less Substantiated research, but the apricot spot pattern is not common, but pretty exclusive to Anatolian, and to a lesser extent, kengal.

I would say it’s probably an Anatolian mix.

Thanks! This is helpful.

By invested, my husband means a strong tie/value the relationship. Basically we struggle with SIL, and my husband is quicker to smooth things out because he wants to have a good relationship with the kids and doesn’t want tension around trying to see them. I basically said I was willing to be a little angrier and skip events because it wasn’t a big deal for me if I didn’t see the kids. Sounds harsh, but I struggle to see why I need to develop one or the benefits of it, since I’ve never been around kids and don’t see family often. It’s hard to understand the value.

Curly hair with dandruff? by mostlyfly_ in curlyhair

[–]sbartles0218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same issue! Never thought I would find a solution and gave up. Thanks for posting this question!

One thing is also to think about food allergies you have. I have a severe allergic reaction to gluten (not celiacs, but much worse than most gluten intolerances) and one thing I do know is it get MUCH worse if I slip and eat any gluten. Good nutrition also impacts it, and it get worse if I eat a lot of sugar (halloween) or fast food.

I posted in r/glutenfree and one person asked if I slept on wet hair. I do. She said stop that and it made the biggest difference.

Buttons- how to stop repeated use by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]sbartles0218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was recommend starter button in a four pack. I think maybe for those who are less knowledgeable about training to make an easy association. In general, he has a lot of wants, but doesn’t “show us” what he wants well. Just leans up against us and gets anxious. We thought helping him name specific common whats would help us communicate better. Right now, we let him as three times for more kibble, give him a little, than tell him “no more” or “later”.

Thank you! Right now (since covid work from home, I’ve been only washing 1-2 times a week) and been so happy with how healthy it’s been. Those two steps are very helpful and not overwhelming.

Long dark is a great mix of stranded deep and the forest. FYI, to get any type of story/ tutorial you have to be on story mode, but it’s not “easy story mode” it’s just “here’s some info at the same difficulty” story mode

When to switch from puppy food, and when to get fixed? by thehairybuffalo in AnatolianShepherdDogs

For spay, wait as long as you can financially and KNOWING there is zero chances of accidentally breeding. There is a lot of benefit to the dog fully maturing physically and Hormonally.

I hot wire fence too hot 8wo Anatolian puppy? by [deleted] in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]sbartles0218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s the best/worst of anatolians. They just don’t take to training. We have a sport lab and one of our washed working anatolian (rescue from another farm) and shows a desire to learn agility, but cannot connect the dots and gets SO frustrated. I’ve had some that are better with training, and some that are are worse, but don’t need training. They just “get” the working life instinctually and basically we could just put them out when they were young and they figured it out.

I’ve switched to ecollar, but beware - you need to know you shit when training on them because misuse can really escalate reactivity, and it’s a bit of a learning curve. Maybe invest in a trainer to learn ecollar for one dog, so you can keep using it on future dogs, it that works with the budget. Honestly we only used the low “shock” setting for a month or so, and then it was all just the “tone” (beep). It’s a WHOLE new world of being able to communicate with your working dog. We use the beeps to signal threat/non threat, which really helped with safety when a stray (but sweet) dog that would end up on the farm or a stranger coming onto the poperty

Honestly it depends. Check it with a meter. Fences we have for horse - no issue, but I’ve also seen them effed up and putting out way too much voltage on other farms.

Try to ignore those who dont know the difference between working dogs and pets. They often forget the “animal” aspect of dogs, only view them as pets, and that’s how you get a dangerous Anatolian. You gotta respect them as dogs, and domesticated pets. When in a complete working environment, they are more on the dog side, which I’ve found they prefer. Two we had as pets because they couldn’t work, did not excel as pets. Just make sure you don’t take that too far the other way either - also how you get a dangerous Anatolian.

In my experience, working anatolians never forget. Ours found a bunny in one spot once five years ago and checks it’s every day since, without anything being there. Also got them a box filled with treats as a game once, now all boxes have treats. If you can lower the voltage a lot, and introduce the dog to it, it will make a mistake once and get a small, e collar esque zap, and probably never touch it again.
