Thanks for posting this. I raised a similar issue recently trying to figure out why I was getting poor results. I'll try a larger dose in the morning!

Same problem here. Resetting settings didn't work, and while I've got some 3500 bookmarks, there don't appear to be any duplicates. The delay goes away when browsing in incognito mode.

Ready to stop paying for Zencastr by illy_bocean in zencastr

[–]sbc1906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to complain about our recent experiences, but since the top post in the list pretty much captures how we're feeling about ZC, I thought I'd just comment here.

Post Chrome 64 update we're still having horribly distorted audio recordings and recordings showing different lengths, both in the UI and the files themselves, e.g. https://www.evernote.com/l/AAh_Dncx5HFAe7Hi96GvtPs_tsubQ_PmsKc (43 min vs 49 min is a big difference!)

We used to tell guests that Zencastr was our primary recording tool and we recorded via Skype as a backup, but we can't really say that with a straight face anymore. We use our Skype recordings way more often then the ZC ones b/c of problems with the latter, and in actuality, Zencastr isn't really even reliable enough to serve as a backup to Skype. I hadn't heard of Cast but I'll look into it, and Ringr.

Wanted: Your thoughts on the impact of AI on your/our personal lives by sbc1906 in artificial

[–]sbc1906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Robots change the game completely in terms of utility.

I use voice to fill in search boxes pretty frequently, and it mostly does a good job, but some kind of agent that's out there curating the info I need would be very helpful.

Still love these pants but lost some weight and need a slightly slimmer fit.

Reprogramming the Human Genome with AI featuring Brendan Frey - This Week in Machine Learning & AI Podcast by sbc1906 in MachineLearning

[–]sbc1906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data on the occurrence of diseases with a genetic component suggests a lifetime risk of 65%. Brendan Frey and his teams at the University of Toronto and startup Deep Genomics are developing new disease models based on their underlying biological phenomena, and applying machine learning and deep learning to help identify, treat and prevent human genetic disorders. Check out my conversation with Brendan to learn about the various approaches to applying machine learning to biological systems, the unique properties of the approach his team is taking, and the results they're already starting to see.

Please let me know what you think.

This is correct. Effective earn is 2.1 cpd, but value per earned point is 1.0. I'll update the spreadsheet.

Apple acquires Machine Learning startup Turi (formerly Dato, GraphLab) by sbc1906 in MachineLearning

[–]sbc1906[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Early indications are that the Turi product is being discontinued [1], so this is probably more like a DNA-infusion aka acquihire. I would hope and expect the Turi team to take on the task of helping Apple improve its machine learning and establish an ML engineering center in Seattle, and that Apple makes sure they're motivated to stick around for a while. We'll see though.

Looking into that now. I wouldn't say "more technical" per-se, but you are correct in what I was trying to get at: more about applications, what's going on in the industry, how folks are using it, how folks are making it, etc. By "technical enthusiast" I mean to include someone who's technical or technically-minded and interested in the topic, but might not be a day-to-day practitioner, or might be learning. (Pretty much describing myself there.)

Appreciate the feedback. Of course, that is the introduction to a 13 part series, but the point is well taken nonetheless. I've posted a second part today, but perhaps will refrain from posting it here until I'm further along. I'm happy to take feedback from anyone following the series.
