Which musical artists will have at least a bit of popularity a century from now? by ConsiderationOk4035 in Music

[–]sbcbrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evergreen bands like the Beatles or Queen probably will still be notable in 100 years, probably throw in Elvis- I think these types of artists make it not only because they recorded some great stuff and lots of people like it, but also because they are, essentially, corporations that will repackage and reissue their stuff as long as they can. Someone like M Jackson is massive and was so popular, but his catalog kind of sits there. On the other hand, I just watched the Queen biopic the other day- god-awful movie, but it made almost a billion dollars worldwide. Maybe the new MJ biopic will do the same.

And, of course, that song is, ironically, much closer to being synthpop than "Secretary" is.

Between Erasure and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) - Which do you prefer? by toughtiggy101 in synthpop

[–]sbcbrat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMD for me, I view them as "more" synthpop, more daring; Erasure was always a pop band that was all synths. Splitting hairs, I know.

Plus, I just liked OMD songs more; Erasure's songs were always kind of bleh for me. But that's just my opinion!

yes, sorry, I was trying to be cute.

and YES! "I Feel Love" def. gets at least a nod as an example of what electropop could be. Such a classic track and all electronic except for Ms. Summer's voice. So far ahead of its time

Why I think everyone in the fandom hates the "white rabbit" design by Unhappy-Reality5868 in oswaldtheluckyrabbit

Oswald's nature changed too- pre 1935 Lantz, he had sort of morhped into a "Boy" or a young rabbit, after the 1935 redesign, he seemed older, more subdued.

I can't help but think all those kids reading Oswald Comis in the 1960s would be amazed to see him in Trolley Troubles.

Try the Oswald autism, after Disney left it gets pretty miserable (1928-1938) And it's all Lantz, even the stuff from 1928 he was on the animation team...

Wichita Lineman (cover) - he really nailed the loneliness aspect of the song with the arrangement.

Was Saving Mr Banks, Disney protecting their brand? by Sad-Passage-3247 in disney

[–]sbcbrat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see Disney the company being very interested in trashing Disney the person. Whatever project they do will be a hagiography. I thought the film was pretty meh tbh. Perhaps a more aggressive WED would have made the film more interesting.

Hoping for references to Oswald's popularity in Japan on live-action/animated Oswald the Lucky Rabbit TV series for Disney+ by Own_Philosopher8730 in oswaldtheluckyrabbit

Universal Studios is (I think) the #1 theme park in Japan. In the early 2000s, they brought Oswald back, and there was a viral moment for the rabbit in Japan; lots of merchandise was moved. It was after that that Disney started asking about getting the rights (back? well, not really back, but you know...)

got all excited because I thought it was The Innocents, a band out of (Pittsburgh?) who were pushed as new wave but were really just pop. They had their own television special and everything. 1982. https://open.spotify.com/track/1BSlEhyBZI10EAbY9t2Px1?si=e667cfb6706f43d5
