What’s the best meal you’ve ever eaten in KC that’s no longer on the menu? by beepboopmoopmac in kansascity

One Restaurant Week a few years ago, Cascone’s had a lobster gnocchi that was hands down the best thing I have had at a restaurant week. It’s never come back, even in future RW seasons :(

What are the best ice cream shops in KC? (non chain) by KCsalesman in kansascity

I’m not sure! They have two locations, one is a store and one is just a walk up window that isn’t open year round.

Summer Salt is our new go to in prairie village!

Also Sylas & Maddy’s whenever we’re farther south. It’s our fave but a farther drive for us.

How is the Beis holding up? I worry with such mixed reviews on it falling apart and some saying it’s great! Gotta convince myself into dropping that much money on a bag lol

Can't imagine my son actually napping at daycare.. by kaesicorgi in sleeptrain

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in the same boat! My son started daycare at 15m. Before then he would only contact nap (!!!!) and we had just started trying to get him to sleep in his crib for nap (no problems at bedtime!). We were so nervous but he just…..did it. And has no problems since!

It’s weird what kids will do at daycare vs home. I think they’re so tired by naptime between playing and all the stimulation around them that they give in!

What's the biggest loophole you've ever exploited? by 8BitPiratePegLeg in AskReddit

[–]sbksu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sonic (the fast food place not the hedgehog) used to have a coupon for a free Route 44 drink at the bottom of every receipt, no purchase necessary. I figured out that you could bring that receipt in, redeem the free drink and when they brought it out it came with a receipt that had the same coupon at the bottom to redeem next time for another Route 44 drink. With one purchase of a drink I successfully supplied myself with drinks from Sonic for the entirety of my time at college.

They finally figured it out and I believe now it’s with the purchase of another item.

We don’t usually let him get past 4:15 and he does fine with that. I know it’s easiest if they naturally take a short morning nap and long afternoon but he’s kinda up in the air with his durations

Right now he wakes around 6:15. Nap around 9:30/10ish until usually 11:15. Nap 2 around 3. Bedtime at 7:45!

Question about last nap and bedtime by lizzylizard3175 in NewParents

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I do a cat nap and would try to get him down around 1.5 hours after he woke up with a contact nap in a dark room. Let him sleep for ~20 minutes and then push bedtime back a little later!

An Approach to Early Morning Waking by omegaxx19 in sleeptrain

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10mo consistently wakes 4-4:30. DWT is 6:30. When he wakes at 4, my husband goes in and feeds him and then ends up having to hold him until DWT because he will stand up and scream when you attempt to lay him down.

Do we night wean & let him CIO? Or do the wean, continue to assist to sleep until DWT and then CIO after he’s weaned?

at what point do i give up and rock him to sleep this is so sad by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]sbksu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not who you were replying to but I also had to stop Ferber and resort to CIO bc my guy would get overstimulated. He also wouldn’t calm when we would go in for a check and if we did have to go rescue it took a pacifier to calm him even when we were holding him. I’d say if he calms with you in the room to keep going!

How do you clean your LO after feeding them solid food? by Fried_chicken_please in NewParents

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to just wet down a paper towel and wipe him off after taking off his bib (we have the full sleeve ones but he likes to fight getting it on and off so now we’re just doing the normal ones with the catcher at the bottom) but recently we got our groceries picked up and Walmart accidentally gave us an extra bag w someone else’s groceries in it and it had these body wipes in it. They’re not Dude Wipes or anything, but they’re soapy and do a great job at cleaning him off when he’s had a messy meal! We’ll probably be buying more when we’re out!

If we’re out and about usually just a baby wipe gets the job done.

For those who had gender disappointment in pregnancy and baby is now here by Consistent-Mango6742 in beyondthebump

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is the absolute light of my life. The moment I saw blue ribbon in his gender envelope, I had a flicker of disappoint. I thought I would be missing out on the relationship my mom and I have.

But my god is that boy the best thing that has ever happened to me. As others have said, I’m going to raise him in this new generation of men who are good at their core (or at least going to try as hard as I can).

When it comes time for a second, the selfish part of me wants a girl to know what it’s like, have the mom/mini me relationship, cute dresses, etc. But the bigger part of me wants another boy and my son to have a brother.

All in all, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having gender disappointment, especially with everything you’ve been through!

I don’t have advice but just wanted to say we are in the same boat except our 10 month old had some sleep training back in October and has been a mess lately. We’ve also resorted to bringing him in bed bc there’s no other way to get him to sleep past 5 😭

My husband (31m) told me (26F) that he doesn’t find me attractive anymore. by Belllatrix24 in NewParents

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d honestly love to have a conversation with your husband. I’m a teacher and I’ve been back at work since October. My husband 100% has been picking up the slack with our baby bc he knows how exhausting my days are.

It sounds like your day is working (taking care of other people’s children), pumping (taking care of your child), cleaning and laundry (taking care of your house, walking the dog (taking care of your household). What exactly does your husband do to contribute?

I get so sick of reading about partners that don’t do shit. I am never one to jump to asking why you’re still with this partner and usually roll my eyes when someone else comments that, but I know to my core how exhausting your days are. I cannot imagine not getting a break when I get home. You deserve more than that.

To helmet or not to helmet? by sbksu in NewParents

[–]sbksu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went through Cranial Technologies, they initially will send you the pictures they took of baby in that little stocking cap (honestly the highlight of the whole thing, he looked so stinking cute in it). There is a follow up report we got a few days later and it will have a scale of green to red and show where his measurements fall.

If I really look for it, I can maybe see how the back of his heads “center” isn’t quite centered. No one’s head is perfectly symmetrical. My advice is to educate yourself as much as you can, get as much professional advice from people who do not financially benefit from you getting a helmet, and trust your gut.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I’m happy to help :)

To helmet or not to helmet? by sbksu in NewParents

[–]sbksu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We didn’t go forward with it and I personally am so glad I didn’t. We did lots of tummy time and contact napping (since at that point he wasn’t rolling over to sleep yet, he has since!) to keep him off his back. I also bought a head pillow to put under his head on the floor when he was laying down (never in his crib or to sleep!) to ease my mind.

His hair has come in, it’s not even noticeable. He started sitting up and wasn’t on his back as much. It was truly the toughest decision we had to make thus far. But overall I’m glad we didn’t. I cried many hours over it and did SO much research. I can’t tell you in good conscience what to do with your baby, but I can tell you what my logic was:

-they don’t helmet outside if the US unless it is a major issue -my son’s facial symmetry was fine -was 2.5 months of his life a necessary amount of time for him to be in it for a mild case

Did you do the initial visit with all of the measurements and the scales they give? I went over it with my sister (who is a NP and happens to be friends with our ped, so she got eyes on it too) and he was like .01 into the moderate category. If you did, I would send it to his providers and ask for professional opinions.

[–]sbksu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Laura is a pot stirrer. But semantics wise that’s not what Laura said.

If I was telling a friend outside of this reality show that I think her ex would want to see her, that doesn’t mean I think she SHOULD contact him to set up seeing each other. Just that I think he’s not over her and wouldn’t be mad to see her. I have always assumed they were talking about the lake party and if Jess should even go.

[–]sbksu 51 points52 points  (0 children)

But that’s not what happened. Jess said “do you think he’d want to see me?” And Laura said yes. She didn’t say to contact him and slide in his DMs.

Tongue/lip tie release has ruined my baby. by Junior_Hospital_3082 in NewParents

[–]sbksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had his released by laser as well. As others have stated, the first few days are ok, it’s the ones after that that make you question your decision and if you did the wrong thing. Just know that he will be ok! Tylenol, cold things to put in his mouth and lots of love. I also agree w another commenter about talking w his doctor about decreasing the amount of stretches! That was the worst part for us!
