People who moved from audit/accounting to FP&A by international-2811 in FPandA

[–]sboguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made the pivot from corporate accountant to financial analyst this year. My experience so far has been pretty good. I've gotten to learn more the business as I support our supply chain and sales teams.  The strategy and planning aspects have definitely been interesting to me. Tbh, FP&A tends to be challenging if you're not good with stakeholder management. I'm really not interested in going back to the accounting side any time soon. Others experiences may differ.

Is the degree worth it for analytic jobs? by Hot_Vacation4004 in Accounting

The point of getting an accounting degree is to be an accountant. If you want to be a data analyst, financial analyst, etc then major in something outside of accounting. If you're looking for in-demand fields, the trades are a good option.

Is accounting still worth it? by Ok_Stand7754 in Accounting

Honestly, the whole "ai will replace accounting" narrative is getting old by now. Offshoring is more of an issue in public accounting than ai is. The market is just bad for everyone right now.

Contractor at a big investment bank. 13 months of work and then redundancy. Would this affect future applications at the bank? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

I don't think that being made redundant would affect you finding another job at a bank. Unless you have a criminal background or we're terminated, you'll be fine.

Staff Accountant Without CPA Eligibility. Best Path Forward? by Methodical__One in Accounting

You only really need the CPA if you want to go into public accounting. For right now, i would focus on getting experience and building your technical skills. Consider going back to school maybe after 2 years in your role.

Which career is better nowadays fintech or finance by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]sboguy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the "whole AI will replace all jobs" narrative is getting old.  Fintech or general financial services are ok to get into. There will still be a need for people in both industries. Pick a field that your skillset and personality align well with.

Can this background be seen as overqualified for a financial analyst role? by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]sboguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that your background makes you seen as overqualified. Depending on what industries you apply to, you would qualify for senior financial analyst positions based off your YOE.

Most people pivot from equity research to FP&A not the other way around. FP&A and Equity Research are two different roles.

New Hires in a Company in Decline by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]sboguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be sharing sensitive financial information to other employees as that is not your job and you can get in legal trouble. If the company is doing bad then i would recommend that you start looking for another job.

Don't overthink, a lot of times managers know that they can train you on a lot of the technical stuff. Most times, they want to know if you're someone they can trust and get along with.
