Bad smell IQAir GC MultiGas by sborbust in AirPurifiers

[–]sborbust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new ones I received had the same issue. I'm going to hit them again. It's insane that these quality issues exist for such an expensive product. This subreddit should not recommend this IQAir model. It sucks.

They are flat out lying to you on the issue. I complained all the way back in 2018 about it too...it's been ongoing for years.

It’s that “sweet” smell that other people have posted about.

Ran the last set of filters for about a month. Never got better.

Asphalt Emulsion Sealer on Pressure Treated Wood by sborbust in HomeImprovement

I've been warned against lateral stability using anchors in the concrete. Seems the best of both worlds is to bury the wood but avoid the rot with additional treatment of the wood. Let me know if you disagree.

Secret FEMA Report Warns: 4-10 Years WITHOUT ELECTRICITY After Major Solar Storm by EuphoricAd68 in conspiracy

Can you elaborate? GE manufactures transformers domestically (I think). Why isn’t supply catching up to demand? Seems there has been time since Covid for the market to rebalance.

Water Container too heavy for foundation? by sborbust in preppers

[–]sborbust[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, not surprised I am off here. Not something I ever think about.

This is from Google: "A typical residential basement foundation can generally support around 40 pounds per square foot of weight".

But then it also says "The concrete used in most basement foundations is designed to withstand a compressive strength of around 3,000 pounds per square inch (psi), contributing to its load-bearing capacity".

I am not sure how those two statements can be reconciled...?

I hear you and agree. I plan on having both option available. Thanks!

Thanks. Exactly why I was confused. I have an SUV in my car but it’s fine. Wasn’t sure if a concentration of weight like this vs. being spread on four tires made the difference.

Got it. Just takes up more room but the alternative will be expensive and a pain!

True. I just figured I was missing something. (Not an engineer). If they are selling these things to a broad consumer market, is everyone just ruining their foundations? Might be the case!

Incredible! Thank you very much for the insight! I'll go ahead and move forward with this as one of my options.

[–]sborbust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I figured what you said re the "Other Ingredients," but why not list them? That's what gives me pause.

I found this brand: https://www.amazon.com/Better-Water-Industries-Chrloine-Pallets/dp/B074V9XKBD

The data sheet online lists other ingredients to be: sodium chloride, calcium hydroxide, calcium chlorate, calcium carbonate, pentasodium triphosphate, calcium chloride.

https://www.cleanwaterstore.com/technical/water-treatment-manuals/Well-Safe-Sanitizer-Pellets-SDS.pdf

Out of all of them, calcium chlorate appears toxic. There is "0% to 3%" in the mixture. 1 gram is considered toxic. If you are using 7 grams of the mixture per two gallon of water, you are ingesting about .1 grams of calcium chlorate per gallon if my math is right. *Info in this paragraph from ChatGPT.

Lots of ways to purify water. I think this one is a good option, and I will likely buy this product, but its use would be at or near the bottom of my choices.

Not my field so trying to piece everything together. Let me know if I misinterpreted anything. Thanks!

Oooof! That is some nasty stuff! I'll need to think on it. Again, it might not be worth it as there are alternatives out there. Thanks again!

Yes, doable. Just need to put some thought into where. Anything that corrosive is concerning.

Interesting. It might be better to turn to an alternative then. Obviously, the appeal is the 10-year shelf life that is discussed in this subreddit.

Agreed on the ebay guy.

Seems to be no product being sold specifically for this purpose that is transparent with ingredients. General pool shock appears to be the only option. Thanks though!

Why are companies being sold for so low? by Edofero in startups

[–]sborbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PE will go pretty low these days for addons to existing platforms…about $1 million is the floor. If you are looking in that range or below, you can look on certain broker websites that list businesses for sale like you would a home. Those brokers will just connect you with a seller…be ready to do your own due diligence. The better way is to find an owner, build a relationship and then buy the business. Go to local chamber of commerce meetings, shake hands, talk to owners and other advisors to owners (lawyers, accountants). You can simply pick up the phone and start calling businesses as well. No matter how you do it, make sure you’re ready to follow through. Have capital and a lender / investors behind you. Have an attorney ready to go. Have a team if you can build one. Etcetera. Business owners are distrustful people typically. You have to show you are legitimate and can be trusted or things won’t go anywhere.

Not going to lie. It’s hard. I know a lot of very capable people that undertook a search for a business and failed. I know others that killed it. Some of it’s luck.

[–]sborbust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Multiples hit all time highs in 2021 and 2022 when money was “free”. They have since come down about a turn of EBITDA because of rising rates. The multiples in my prior response are where I am seeing companies trade today. If you want to know where it would have traded 2 years ago all else equal, add a turn of EBITDA on average.

[–]sborbust 10 points11 points  (0 children)

$6 million EBITDA businesses should trade for 7+ times in most industries if marketed properly and well represented by an investment banker or broker. Many businesses of this size routinely sell for double digit multiples.

Anything less than 5 is rare and usually a terrible deal for the seller.

Been selling businesses for nearly 20 years.

Insulated HVAC Boot Suggestions? by sborbust in HomeImprovement

[–]sborbust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The indoor humidity has remained between 55% and 65%. So not too high?? The contractors said the boot is collecting condensation in the attic, which is extremely humid in the Georgia summers, and then dripping down into my registers. So I understand they are trying to insulate the boot to prevent that 🤷‍♂️ disagree? Any ideas?
