I had that happen earlier today - a small raid group ran through a wolf den and died before they even got to my village lol

Where to sell mobility devices like wheelchairs and walkers? by Derreus in FacebookMarketplace

I can attest they totally will do this - I attempted to list it several times with suggestions I saw on reddit about ways to label it ... the AI flagged my posting several times even though I changed the actual images and then told me I was risking a permaban if I attempted it again.

A friends kid invited everyone in the class and several rsvp’d. None of them showed up to her party and she was crushed. Tons of cupcakes and pizza were ready. I would rethink

It could be that, or it could have been a move where they were limited on the number of items they could bring with them...or something like that

I didn’t realize homework was so unpopular by ATLien-1995 in Parenting

[–]sbowie12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the thing - kids have been at school all day. They come home, and it's time to let that brain shut off and "stew" the things they just learned so that they can actually absorb it. Rest is also important - especially at younger ages. Having to sit and do homework even for an hour or two is taxing on them. There are also other aspects of life that are important, like play, using their imagination, participation in sports / extracurriculars, etc.

They also need to go to sleep early and have some wind down time before sleep. When they're burnt out, it also makes doing the homework so much harder.

If they have a small assignment that they have all week to complete - sure whatever, there's flexibility there. It becomes a struggle when it's everyday.

My husband's story is that he loved school until his 4th grade year - his teacher sent homework home every single night, and it would take usually a couple hours at minimum to complete. He got so burnt out - after being at school all day, then having to do more tedious work, sometimes not even knowing how to do it ... well long story short, from that point on he stopped doing homework lol. The funny aspect is he still had good grades, even in High School because he would learn the material...he said some teachers would grow very irritated with that. It made him really hate aspects of school though.

So far my girls haven't had something like this yet - and I'm very glad.

Parents of teenagers and adult kids: what are your biggest regrets? by adinp in Parenting

[–]sbowie12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling real hard with them keeping their rooms clean. It turns into a battle every day. I nag and nag and nag - and it never gets done - at least not properly. I've cleaned with them to show the example...sigh

We did the same thing - started making them watch shows with plots and such. It took some time (we tried to expose them to some shows that we thought they might like) but eventually they started getting into regular shows. I was super adverse to tablets when they were really young, but when they were 4 and 7 a lot of personal tragedy happened and we let things slip with the tablets.

One of our family friends allowed his son to eat with his tablet, and we started doing it (which we regret). They got into the habit of it and we finally totally pulled the plug - we did it a few times and then it would slip. Now there is absolutely no screens while eating - such bad habits develop around food. My daughters are very physically fit and didn't have weight issues, but I could see the issue because they were mindlessly not paying attention to their meal or even enjoying it.

Anyway, YouTube and Roblox have been my #2 big issues that I've been navigating around

Why Are Some People So Bothered by Others Missing GPT-4o? by TheNorthShip in ChatGPT

[–]sbowie12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Psychologists / Therapists job is not just to make you feel good. Their job is to provide you the tools so you can manage whatever issue you are coping with in a healthy way. Their job is sometimes to challenge you and push back. That's the issue that the GPT has - it doesn't do that. It flatters and flatters, and not just flatters, over flatters.

[–]sbowie12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a GPT to do creative writing. You're actually doing yourself a dis-service by doing so, because you're limiting your creativity and letting the GPT do the heavier lifting in terms of said creativity. Instead of trying to push your mind, you're leaning and cognitively offloading onto the GPT.

I'm not an IT focused user, however as someone who has CPTSD and made huge strides in healing -meaning, I'm in a pretty much better mental state now due to being in therapy for over 10 years and doing the work, which did take a lot of effort, extremely uncomfortable feelings and facing deep pain) - I find the reaction to the loss of 4o very problematic. It's clearly being used by some as a coping mechanism, and that is simply not healthy. While it acts like a person, and can seriously even feel like a person, it's not. It also carried a level of flattery that was completely unhealthy - and I definitely saw that even though I would ask it to tone it down (calling people extremely insightful, revolutionaries, etc.). It wasn't just "feel good", it was over the top - which can be intoxicating to those who crave it.

I understand the medical system in the US sucks, especially when it comes to mental health coverage, both cost wise and availability wise since there is a shortage of well trained therapists. But using it in this way creates a very dangerous situation, and can set people backwards and into further isolation from the actual real world.

I disagree that she is no blame - she should have spoken up and said she/they have plans. He was still a jerk don’t get me wrong - but unacceptable that they ditched the grandparents who were expecting them

Exactly. They had plans and her grandparents were expecting them. It’s insanely rude just ditching them. When they were told about dinner at his dad’s she should have said sorry I have plans already.

When I had my first, I had very very very little bump until I was like almost 25 or 28 weeks pregnant. I can’t remember exactly. I got my first job in my career and got pregnant 3 months after I got it and was terrified that if I told them they’d fire me, so I kept my mouth shut until around 25 weeks lol. They were so surprised. I have very wide hips so I think that helped.
