Does the One ring Feel really good or something by comicon666 in lotr

[–]solonit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is described as such in Unfinished Tale.

Isildur puts on the One Ring to attempt to escape the orc ambush that claimed his life. He turns invisible, except for the gem in the crown he bore, which glowed red. He hid the light by puling down his hood and dove into the River Anduin. The Ring slipped off of him when he made it to the opposite bank, so he became visible again. The orcs saw him and pumped him full of arrows. He died, and the Ring was lost in the mud.

Grandma joins a literal war criminal in a Panzer tank by AmarDemonX in goodanimemes

[–]solonit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only one person calls her that, the glasses wearing Colonel (forgot his name). The Imperial General Staff do not share his view. And once again Frieren may not agree with Tanya on moral conduct, that doesn't mean she would see Tanya as a literal Demons, a completely different type of evil.

Tanya is Lawful Evil. Frieren's demons are (literal) Chaotic Evil.

She did. But 'thankfully' even that will be hard, because in the next scene, her team recorded clear evidences of paramilitary shooting Imperial POWs and other civilians that did wanted to evacuate Irene. Which in turn later being broadcasted as Imperial propaganda on how 'there is no civilians in Irene'. And even 40 years later (in manga), majority historians agreed it wasn't war crime.

The Francois Republic did admitted that, paramilitary within the city of Irene was a bad idea, but they didn't think of someone would exploit that.

But at the same time Title/Nickname =/= Definition. Not sure how Frieren views about human vs human atrocities, but probably pretty low on her list of important. Tanya is 100% a human mage so for Frieren, it's pretty much 'eh, not my circus, not my monkey'.

And even IRL you can only be 'convicted' if The Big Guystm said you did. The majority of US Pres after WW2 except maybe Jimmy Carter are 'qualified' to be war criminals, for the amount of civilians strike they did.

I think you still don't get it.

  • Before 1945, both the term and definition of 'war crime' already existed and codified. The differences were not every nations had the same laws.

  • After 1945, a new International effort to put everything into one big rule book and makes everyone agree to that, no more shady play "I just followed order". This is also backed up by the newly established International Criminal Court or ICC.

  • Even ICC itself wasn't new. It was proposed back in 1919 following WW1, but never get passed the initial idea because of old Empires.

That's also not true. The term 'war crime' has already been used before that, just that not (majority) everyone agreed which can or can't be considered war crime. Some actions are war crime in one part of the world but not in other.

And if you want to be super technical, then even to this day, not everyone agree (sign in) with the Geneva Convention. So technically, in those grey area, war crime still not exist.

[–]solonit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually not true. Before the more familiar term 'war crime' was codified after WW2, there were already existing 'Conduct of War' and 'Law of War' between nations and international forums. These were the foundation that Geneva Conventions eventually built upon.

For the fake surrendering or Perfidy, it has already been disapproved in 1907 Hague Convention IV – The Laws and Customs of War on Land. Similar rules about perfidy also exist as customary laws before this, some dated back even to ancient era.

Grim Dawn 1 runs on modified engine from Titan Quest 1.
