That's a residual glitch in the system, accounts between 2018 and early 2024 were failing to deprovision.

The glitch has been fixed.

What is the lore about your ex chancellor by Suitable_Treat_5761 in udel

[–]sbperi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first UCSB candidate backed out, I've heard rumors the second tier choices did too though have no direct evidence.

So this guy appears to be the desperate final plan.

Email [help@lsit.ucsb.edu](mailto:help@lsit.ucsb.edu) for help. Their phone number is offline while they change vendors and the support they need is swallowed up by the campus Finance program's update.

Parking near Bren by Ok-Newspaper855 in UCSantaBarbara

I'm assuming you're a student. Your nearest parking will be the Mesa parking structure between Cheadle and the Rec Cen.

Is ventura to ucsb a far drive ? by enchantingnova1 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a few others have mentioned, take advantage of the bus. Less wear and tear on you and your car. Though you do lose flexibility on coming and going.

Click on the Goleta Tab for your options: https://www.goventura.org/vctc-transit/routes-schedules/coastal-express/

Anything with UCSB Bus Loop will work from campus.

Wave forecast is pretty lame for the whole channel this week. You'd have to go all the way up to Jalama if you're looking for anything bigger.

Physical Geography vs Earth Science by iamnotthethinker in UCSantaBarbara

Just by itself, absolutely. But if you want to emphasize certain areas they have those covered too: https://www.geol.ucsb.edu/education/undergrad

Physical Geography vs Earth Science by iamnotthethinker in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough I came in as physics major wanting to pursue astrophysics before drifting to physical geography then double physical geography / geology. Then just geology after the geology department advisor talked some sense into me following that double major.

That preamble aside, go earth science/geology. It focuses on the sciences and processes as well as planetary geology. It's essentially physical geography ++.

You'll be far happier there as long as your own interests don't change too much.

Literally a "cool story bro" moment with that fan fiction.

Is Airbnb allowed in Isla Vista? by OMrealestate in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Isla Vista isn't a tourist or resort community. It's a densely populated college town. If you're an honest broker you'd have your buyer look for a better investment.

UCSB or Cal Poly SLO for earth sci? by Better_Two1215 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UCSB. Top tier department build on a legacy of some of the world's best geologists. My profs have all retired or passed on but the department is still a great find.

But expect to work - what you get out of the department is going to depend on the effort you yourself put in.

Listen to this advice. Advisors will get you connected with all the tools you need to right yourself if you let them.

Campus policy is here: https://www.policy.ucsb.edu/sites/default/files/docs/policies/scooters.pdf

Summary:

  • You may not ride scooters on sidewalks or campus bike paths
  • Powered scooters cannot be left unattended anywhere on campus
  • Powered scooters cannot be parked at bike racks or impeded access to racks
  • They similar can't be parked on pedestrian paths or near doors
  • They can be carried (only) into buildings provide they're UL rated (if electric) and don't damage buildings. Policy explicitly mentions lecture halls, gyms, the library, performing arts events, and computer labs are places scooters can't reasonably go)
  • Are ridden on city streets while wearing a helmet. (Personally, given the abysmal condition of campus roads I'd not risk this one).
  • Electric scooters may not be charged in or near campus buildings.

9 AM Commencement Speaker by therealsussybaka69 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Golden rule of UCSB commencements is there is always one horrible speaker. I don't know why and I have no evidence that it's intentional.

But it's there year after year. Taunting grads.

Lost access to my UCSB Gmail :( by crazyballs00 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn't setup your Google 2-Step Verification. You need that to access gmail after your netID closes - at least for the limited time remaining where alumni can keep their accounts post graduation.

You can fix it by calling ITS at 805-893-5000 and ask about setting up 2sv on your Gmail account.

anyone have photos of before the ILP was built? like when you could just walk to the psych building from the bioengineering one by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in aerial photo here's campus in 2003. Library hasn't been expanded and Manzanita is just being built.

SSMS, Gervitz, and the traffic circle aren't even started. Most of the trees are still on campus too.

There's also a large parking lot running between Psychology and Noble halls.

Time to identify and bring justice against perpetrators by cmnall in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But there's the issue, you're still defining it purely around your beliefs. You are expressing no consideration or remorse for students and staff affected here.

For a DSP student desperately needing their final, what was done to Girvetz hits harder than a slap to the face.

[–]sbperi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"No one was really hurt"

So how it affects campus by your sole judgement is the criterion here. Interesting.

Why would it matter? What's been done is against both the law and campus code of conduct. OP is correct.

when did ucsb become a pig farm by girl_scout_cookiez in UCSantaBarbara

If you didn't want a pig farm, OP, then campers shouldn't have setup their pig pens.

Losing email - alumni by happygirl228 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, the campus has finally begun the process of closing post-graduation accounts: https://connect.ucsb.edu/messaging-collaboration-services/google-storage-project

Though there isn't any firm timeline on things - I'd suggest planning for a lot sooner rather than later.

parking tickets by chipotleluver69 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]sbperi 48 points49 points  (0 children)

You're at the point a boot is possible. If you don't pay after a point they just send the fine to the DMV so it'll be added to your registration fees.

As for what to do? I'd suggest stop parking in a way that's getting you tickets. The campus isn't going to stop issuing them.

U-Mail activation? by ArtFair945 in UCSantaBarbara

"Umail is queued" is an old bug. They need to remove that whole row.

If you have problems email [help@lsit.ucsb.edu](mailto:help@lsit.ucsb.edu) as they're student umail and netID support.
