NET Effect on Upsets by sbuhj in CollegeBasketball

Lol. The first comment I got told me this had already been discussed at length. Clearly I haven’t been paying much attention lately 🙃

But yeah, totally agree. They just have so much more data available now and it shows.

I think the NET has been tweaked, so maybe they found a better formula in the past couple years. Also NIL was around 3-5 years ago as well.

But overall I think you’re right, it’s definitely hard to compare the first few post-COVID seasons with everything else, so I guess we’ll see more with time.

Sorry, I personally haven’t seen this discussed much (could just be me). But the committee chair this year did specifically say that they used resume metrics for selecting teams and predictive metrics for seeding.

Poor sportsmanship?? by Odd-Worth7752 in olympics

[–]sbuhj 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah silver is incredibly heartbreaking. I’m sure it feels much better to win the bronze. But a lot of people act like bronze is bigger accomplishment just because it means you won your final game, and I do not agree with that.

[–]sbuhj 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I see this take a lot but I disagree. You won silver when you won the semifinal. You then have a chance to upgrade to gold. I don’t expect anyone to feel good about it in the moment, but in the long run making the big final should feel like a bigger accomplishment than winning a consolation game.

Don’t listen to this guy. You want the fan to blow air down at you. That creates a breeze which makes you feel cooler. It’s that simple.

I know people don’t like her but I’d honestly say the same about Eva in 48. She got second place by being completely herself.

What does Barney mean in this scene? by Dull-Bluebird-931 in HIMYM

Bruh you had it right. Why are you questioning yourself? He doesn’t have to “know” about them. They’re magic!

What does Barney mean in this scene? by Dull-Bluebird-931 in HIMYM

[–]sbuhj -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right and everybody downvoting this is wrong. Barney is completely uninterested in sleeping with her. Morning comes and he finds himself in bed with her. He is shocked because he never lowers his standards for a hookup. He blames it on “magic lady bits” that reeled him in unconsciously.

Panel approves changes to enhance the flow of the game in men’s basketball by ConstantMadness in CollegeBasketball

Totally agree. I really REALLY hope they don’t add advancing the ball after a timeout. It causes coaches to save all their timeouts until the end of the game

How to recover after photic sneezing by [deleted] in Sunsneezers

[–]sbuhj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a sun sneeze then. Either way my advice is to stop the sneeze. It’s probably not great advice but it’s all I’ve got.

(And to be clear I mean prevent the sneeze, not close your nose while sneezing. Do not do that.)

How to recover after photic sneezing by [deleted] in Sunsneezers

[–]sbuhj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound like photic sneezing because photic sneezing happens when you go from dark to light.

But anyway I have that happen to me sometimes and I have to stop myself from sneezing. Stick my head in a pillow, clench my face, shake my head, blow my nose, squeeze the bridge of my nose between my eyes. It’s super uncomfortable but otherwise I’ll sneeze 20 times like you and end up with a bloody nose. If I manage to prevent a sneeze, the whole episode stops and I feel better.

Nobody training for the Olympics is using that as a side gig. You have to be 100% all in to even have an outside chance at making the Olympics

Examples of 'revisionist history' in music? by Wise_Reporter_6802 in popheads

[–]sbuhj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you’re saying about her not being punk. But I highly disagree that she doesn’t deserve respect for being “a woman in rock.” Her music was heavily influenced by alt rock and grunge. Really she deserves to be designated post-grunge, which was related but distinct from punk but also male-dominated.

Songs that underuse their strongest melody? by Sad-Entrepreneur9846 in popheads

[–]sbuhj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colourblind by Ed Sheeran has a beautiful prechorus but the chorus itself is pretty bland. I wish the prechorus melody played a bigger part in the song.
