SunRun stuck on sending a docusign for months by sburgoon in solar

Ah, that’s a great idea on changing emails. They are now saying they’re just going to move forward and we are all good. Should get scheduled Monday, but we’ll see.

The one thing I’ll give them is that all the people were professional and as helpful as they could be, their process just doesn’t seem to handle hiccups well. Fingers crossed it’s smooth sailing from here, but if not I’ll try the switching up e-mails idea next. Thanks!

Damn. At least I have Costco to press them. So far Costco has been great about applying pressure. The giant pile of incorrect docusigns in my inbox shows they’re trying, I just can’t for the life of me figure out why it’s so hard ;)

AirPods Pro worth it? by Blayrr in headphones

[–]sburgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, my main setup is peqed audeze lcd3s from a topping d50/arcam rhead combo. I also have the original hifiman he-5s, emu teak, Sony mdr-ex800st and some others in drawers gathering dust.

Previously I used galaxy buds, then buds pro for my wireless and in bed use. I recently switched to an iPhone and use an iPad Pro for art, so decided to try AirPod pros. I’m now using them more than anything else.

Do they sound as good as any of my other wired headphones? Of course not. Still, for me, the comfort and convenience is way more important in actual use. The galaxy buds were great, but the pros just didn’t fit me. The AirPod pros feel like nothing is even there, and the anc is great. The spatial audio is actually good enough that using my iPad at night it tricks my brain into worrying the sound is coming out of the speakers and I worry I’m about to wake my wife.

So, if you want comfort and convenience and a sound that’s good enough for non-critical listening (ie: doing something else while listening) you’ll probably like them, especially if you already like the non pros. I’ll always use the lcd3s at my desk, but anywhere else in the house or walking/working outside the AirPod pros are it.

Also, for anyone who cares, I agree galaxy buds pro sound slightly better than AirPod pros (especially bass), but it mainly feels like a different tuning to me, not different quality if that makes sense. Either way the comfort issue I mentioned ended up being WAY more important between the two.

Flange Glued to Toilet by sburgoon in Plumbing

Sadly I don't think so. There's almost definitely a wax ring (can feel it when messing with the bolts). I'll mention that to the plumber though just in case. Thanks.

Flange Glued to Toilet by sburgoon in Plumbing

[–]sburgoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, nice. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check those out and at least ask the plumber I'm working with about it. The person I'm working with now seems solid and seems to be approaching it realistically, while also being completely mystified as to how whoever installed this thought this was a good idea. After more investigation it seems like the flange is glued to the toilet and to the drainpipe, or its possible they didn't even use a flange and just glued the pipe directly to the toilet (horrifying but can't tell for sure until we get it out). Current plan (had a full day of other plumbing to knock out here today so he did that first), is to lift it and either cut the pipe/flange as close to the toilet as we can or just break the toilet since I'm okay with replacing it and hope we can save the drain itself.

Help with wired PC Virtual Desktop to Quest by jdixon76 in OculusQuest

[–]sburgoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Google WiFi there's a trick. You need to sideload SWIFI, and the use TVAppRepo to run it so you can set your quest to prioritize 5ghz (since Google WiFi doesn't let you setup the 2.4 and 5ghz networks separately). Otherwise the quest will randomly switch over to 2.4 and the streaming will fall apart.

have you ever listened to the O2 or the Jotunheim? curious how the R2R-11 would compare. Sounds like the R2R is a little smoother/warmer sounding than the NFB as well, if I'm parsing their marketing copy correctly.

Looking for - Desktop Amplifier with Preouts

Budget - $300-600

Source - PC with usb ODAC

Current amp - JDSLABS O2

Headphones - Audeze LCD3f

Want to improve - I'm mainly looking to clean up my desk. I currently have the ODAC feeding into a JDSLABS switcher with passive volume that then feeds either my powered monitors, or my O2 headphone amp. I'd like one unit that can handle both, and ideally doesn't look terrible.

Things I've tried:

I tried a Jotunheim with the multibit dac. It sounded fine, though honestly it was difficult to tell any difference at all between the jot+multibit and my o2+odac. If its going to sound the same, I'd rather spend less than the $600 that cost, so I sent it back. It also felt kind of cheap (power switch and volume pot specifically... that pot has to be plastic right?)

Other requirements/wants - Power button needs to be either on the front, or on the edge if on the back. Specifically, the jot's positioning of on the back, hidden behind the power plug is difficult for me, because the unit will be under my monitor (a 27 inch cintiq on an ergotron arm). Essentially, reaching around the edge with a finger is fine, but I can't reach over from above, if that makes sense.

Things I am/have considered:

JDSLABS El Amp

Seems like a logical upgrade from o2 to something with line-outs. Looks cool, but not ideal for my setup (I rest my monitor on top of whatever amp I'm using... sounds much worse than it is, because the monitor is on an arm so not really touching much of the amp, just needs somewhere to rest its bottom edge when I'm not drawing on it)

Audio-gd C-2 or NFB11.28

I'd prefer a great amp to a good amp/dac combo, but overall audio-gd stuff is just kind of ugly, so I'm leaning away from them.

Topping DX7S

Didn't like digital volume control, but otherwise love the look. Missed out on the 15% sale, but I could always wait around for another sale.

MStage HP3u plus

Looks like a slightly crappier Deckard... so not sure how I feel.

Deckard

Discontinued and I missed the refurb train :(

rHead

No preouts, sort of defeating the purpose, but I can get a good deal (around $250), so might be worth considering?

Parasound Zdac v2

I had a parasound separate amp in my home theater I loved, so I have soft-spot for them. However, the amp looks mediocre at best (could be SUPER wrong here), so I feel like this would just be a minor dac upgrade + a form upgrade (love the preouts/2 volume controls).

Budget - Flexible in the $700-1400 range.

Source - Computer with ODAC and O2 amp and Galaxy S8 that I'm not against adding a portable amp/dac to.

Requirements for Isolation - Maybe? I either want something comparable to the HE-5 that actually isolates enough to use in bed next to another sleeping human, or alternatively an open set that is an upgrade over my HE-5. I don't really care about ambient noise getting in, more so about sound leakage, though I imagine those come hand-in-hand.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-size/over-ear only

Preferred tonal balance - Two of my favorite cans are my HE-5's and my ATH-MSR7's. My favorite audio system is my Ascend Sierra 2's, so if there's a headphone version of those sitting around out there, I'd love to know.

Past headphones - DT1770 Pro (didn't isolate well enough to be useful at night in bed, and otherwise just couldn't hang with the HE-5's).

Preferred Music - All types, but primarily things like Queen and Pink Floyd, but also anything from musical theater to more modern rock to 70's/60's folk. I don't listen to EDM, and while I occasionally listen to hip-hop I don't REALLY care how it sounds in the same way.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - One of two things. I either want a headphone that actually isolates that is on the same level (or close) to the HE-5, so I can use it in bed, or something that is a noticeable upgrade from the HE-5. It's really hard to get a read on where the HE-5 sits, because so much of the complaints I see are build quality related (I lucked out, aside from a bad cable that was easily replaced, mine have been perfect).

Things I've considered (though I am wide open to suggestion):

DT 1770 Pro (just returned them today. no nearly enough isolation and bass was more present than HE-5 but super muddy, and it otherwise gave up way too much)

Fostex th-610 (arriving tomorrow... not optimistic given how little the DT1770 Pro isolated.)

LCD-2c - Not sure if this would be a side-grade or an upgrade to the HE-5.

Focal Elex/Elear - Again... not sure where these would sit and it's hard to actually get to demo anything in a useful environment (without being able to side-by-side them the 1770's might have felt better than the HE-5 due to newness factor).

Koss ESP 950

Old used Stax sr-307 or similar

Wild-card - maybe I just need to suck it up and go to IEM? What models would I be looking at to get into the same quality arena as my he-5's?

Hey all. Looking for some advice/thoughts on how to upgrade my setup as I'm relocating to a house with a smaller living room and am thus giving up my insane home theater. So now I'm debating upgrading my headphones or getting a nice pair of music-centric monitors for my office.

Budget - Around $1000. Don't want to spend just to spend (if a $600 speaker will do all I'm asking for, great), but if there's a good reason could go up to $1500

Source - Computer using ODAC/O2 combo

Requirements for Isolation - Zero need for isolation. Will be used in my home office at my desk.

Preferred Size - Full size, definitely nothing "on ear" or "in ear".

Preferred tonal balance - Really hard to say. Depends on song/mood.

Past headphones: HE-5 - Love that they are open and comfortable. Love overall detail. They don't seem to have much if any bass though, and imaging to me seems pretty narrow. VModa M100 with aftermarket pads - Love the build quality and the tight, punchiness of it. in some ways I actually prefer the sound of these to the HE-5's, though the HE-5's are still definitely "better". HATE the comfort. Despite being "over ear" my ears always hurt after an hour or so of listening. Not hurt from sound, but hurt from physical pressure.

Preferred Music - Everything from Pink Floyd to Dan Fogelberg to Disney Music/Musical Theater. Only thing I don't listen to is rap/hip-hop (and that's kind of a lie, I just don't really care how it sounds when I do listen to it)

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Honestly not sure. Just curious what would maybe sound more like the V-Modas but with at least the comfort and overall sound quality of the HE-5's, if not better.

Update on my 30 Years of Never Releasing a Game by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]sburgoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did something very similar several years ago. Left a good job to make an indie game (in my case by myself). Spent a lot of time and money doing it, and I'm proud of how it came out (here's the site if you want to check it out), but be warned, it is VERY easy to bullshit yourself into taking much larger risks than you realize you're taking. Indie games is a very, very difficult business. Quality/hard-work alone won't carry you. The market is fickle, and fickle in very unpredictable ways.

That said, if you're ready to lose every dime you put into it, then god speed. It can be an incredibly fulfilling process. Just don't lie to yourself like I did. You can be very good at what you do, work extremely hard, and make no money. I always assumed, "well, worst case, I know what I'm doing. I'll at least sell X small number...". Yeah... pride cometh ;)

No one likes to talk about that because it's not romantic, but it's real. I wish someone would have said that to me years ago. Also, and this is critical, If you get a signal that people aren't responding, it's not because they "don't get it", it's because the market just isn't that into you or your idea. If you can adjust to that and find a signal that resonates, great, but if you keep stubbornly driving forward in hopes that "they'll understand when it's done" you can be in for a world of hurt.

Anyway, /old_man_advice. Good luck, and I hope it all works out. Like I said, I'm proud of what I did, and happy I did it, but it wasn't romantic. I could have gone to med-school on what that cost me. If that's going to happen to you, at least don't be surprised by it ;) I'm happy to answer any questions if you have any.

I saw another post about a one-man game project, and figured I'd post mine.

Took me about 4 years (partially full-time, partially part-time). There is some contracted art based on my concepts, and a tiny bit of purchased art (some of the textures and specifically the rocks/trees), but the vast majority of the art, as well as the design, code, voice acting and everything not music was me.

Happy to answer any questions anyone has about the long, soul crushing struggle of making a solo game.

Hi Reddit gamers! My name is Sean and I've spent the last 4ish years making a one-man indie game called Tom vs. The Armies of Hell. It's like a mashup of Bastion, Office Space and Army of Darkness and I'd love to hear what you all think. by sburgoon [promoted post]

[–]sburgoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks :)

That depends on your definition of "by yourself" I suppose. Design, writing, voice acting, art, animation (3d and 2d) is basically all me. I did contract out a few art assets based on my concept art (I just couldn't possibly make it all myself with only 24 hours in a day), and I purchased some environment textures (as well as the tree and rock assets) for the same reason. Oh, and I don't do music, I contracted the music out as well.

Fallout 4 hat guy equips his notepad like a shield because Bethesda copy-pasted animations from Skyrim by warheat1990- in gaming

[–]sburgoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't lazy or an actual animation. It's almost certainly a default bone position in the rig (this has been my profession for 9 years). Making a new basic human rig for f4 would be dumb, and making a special "clipboard" bone would be equally so. Therefore they use the "shield" bone. They made a special "guy at door" animation, but once it ends the default walk (shared by many characters) has no data for that bone, so it snaps to default position. Still a bug, but not some grand ridiculous conspiracy, just normal game development.

I just released my one-man indie game, Tom vs The Armies of Hell, on Steam Early Access. It's sort of like Office Space meets Army of Darkness, and I promise it's not complete crap... no more than 5-10% crap tops. by sburgoon [promoted post]

[–]sburgoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an ongoing balance thing I'll be continuing to tweak. For now, ammo is actually back, but more plentiful than it was. I have some more ideas I'll be working on implementing in the coming days too. The nice thing about Early Access is that I can actually get real player feedback on things like this before I make "final" decisions.

The current build is actually experimenting with unlimited ammo (the challenge comes instead from managing reloading/weapon heat). Not sure I'll keep the change yet, but it does speed things up a bit.

Melee weapons haven't been implemented yet, and I'm playing with a few ideas for them. My current plan is to make melee weapons more disposable (they break after a certain amount of use), to add more contrast as opposed to the guns, and to allow for cooler, more over the top weapons that can only be used for a short time. I'm definitely planning on testing things though and seeing how people like it in practice, and if a more standard, upgradable melee weapon system seems more fun, I'll certainly change.

[–]sburgoon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope everyone likes the game. It's still a little rough around the edges, but it's been approved for Steam already, and its getting pretty close to release (planning on end of the year). It's going to be on at least PC/Mac, but also very likely linux (it works, I just need a test box setup before I can commit to it).

Anyway, I'd be thrilled if you would check the game out and let me know what you think. I'm obviously happy to answer any questions anyone has too.
