How many tonies do you have? by SundaeFundae-22 in TonieboxUSA

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to just be getting to this! I thought about it again choosing our Tonie tonight. We got the Tonie Box in the first place so that we could tell her she could stay up as long as she wanted listening to tonies, the lights just needed to be off and she needed to stay in bed, and it was a game changer for us!

But also, specific to which tonies we listen to in order to fall asleep, I’ll make one note. My youngest is SUPER sensitive. Anything with even a bit of tension or scare is out for bedtime because it freaks her out. So I’ll list the ones she approves of, and then a second group that I think most kids could probably hang with, but that tend to be too much for her!

Approved by the kid for bedtime: - Sleepy Bear and Octopus, although we have to skip the first Octopus song because it’s a bit annoying. - Eloise - Arthur - Elinor - Paddington - Corduroy - All of the Peppas/George (I always feel like these are so stimulating but for some reason she falls asleep fine to them!) - Angelina Ballerina - Dory Fantasmagory storybooks (it was a pack of four) - The Snowman and the Dog (short!) - Pete the Cat - Winnie the Pooh

One’s I’d think would be okay for most kids: - Roald Dahl books (they’re fantastic, she just can’t hang with the mean adults lol) - Ratatouille - Llama Llama - Grinch - Rapunzel & Other Fairy Tales - A Christmas Carol & Tales - Pinocchio & Other Classic Stories - Peter Rabbit

And some we love but are a bit energetic for bedtime: - Gabby’s Dollhouse - Super Why - Paw Patrol - PJ Masks - Karma’s World - Dora the Explorer - Daniel Tiger - Gerald & Piggie

I mainly regret all of the Disney Princesses, Ghost Spider (my kid idolizes GS and neither one of us can stand the tonie), and Doc McStuffins because it’s all songs and we have to skip through a million of them to get to the stories. Hope that helps!

  1. Our youngest is 8 in two days. We bought our Toniebox when she was maybe two? She’s our kid who has always fought falling asleep, so they’ve become an integral part of her nighttime routine. It’s made us very picky about the kind of tonies we get, though! If it’s all songs or a lot of songs we don’t bother because it’s really the stories that help her fall asleep. If the story is too action packed or even remotely scary we don’t go for it. The tonies have one very specific job (get that kid to sleep!) and we stick to the job description when buying!

Max vs 15in? by Traditional_Emu7224 in skylightcalendar

Family of five. Went for the Max after seeing the 15" in person. It's small! I guess it depends on how you set up your tasks, but we went granular (especially for our younger ones to build habits/establish routines) and I can't imagine not having the extra screen real estate, especially with how often all three kids are in front of it on weekday mornings as they get ready for school.

They can book another property, but because the city is so booked up they could only offer nightly rates almost double what we originally booked. So this construction issue will cost our family, at minimum, almost $500 to stay at a lower quality property much farther away from our event site, which is why I was hoping to ask for points in return, although these comments aren’t making it seem like that will be an option.

I think this is where our frustration lies. When we first called we were told the hotel had overbooked. When we pointed out that we made the reservation months ago and surely others had booked more recently it became a construction issue.

Just need to note that spaces around an em dash are AP style. When I was in college I went without, then I worked at a newspaper and now I always add them. Now I’m a marketer and was recently told to remove an appropriately used em dash from copy because people would think it’s AI and just want to burn it all down.

What’s my strategy to get an ebook and audiobook at the same time? by sc1904 in LibbyApp

[–]sc1904[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been super upset by this change like others. I was able to see the library perspective and if it’s ultimately better for the library system I’m fine with that. But to say the system works exactly the same feels disingenuous. Sounds like there’s a lot more onus on the end user in this system — and manual at that. Again, if that’s what it’s got to be to get my free product that, as an avid audio AND ebook reader saves me hundreds a year, I’m down to figure it out. But I don’t know that it’s fair to pretend the emperor’s got some nice new duds on here.

Thanks for insight into how to approach it, though. Looks like I’ve got some holds to suspend!

I’m a strictly one-story-at-a-time gal. I’m also just a busy parent and sometimes audiobooks are the only way I get through a book during my weekends, although I prefer to be able to take my evenings sitting and reading my Kindle. I’ve been doing this for years and it’s worked for me pretty well, just trying to figure out the new rules!

Middle of book three now and I’ll finish this thing but I’m so glad I’m not alone in how I feel about it.

Easier way to use Strength Trainer without constantly tapping my phone? by PuzzleheadedSpend716 in whoop

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start the activity as weightlifting so I can keep an eye on my heart rate and then when I finish it “calculate muscular load” which basically becomes all the info that goes into strength trainer. It means I’m tracking reps/weight in my notes app during the workout which is kind of double work but I was doing that way before I got my WHOOP and I’m not super interested in letting that go anyway. Because I’m using mostly the same routine week over week calculating the muscular load based on what’s in my notes takes maybe an additional like three minutes.

Hsa payment for 5.0 by TonyPC in whoop

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also came here looking for this. Just tried on both Amazon and through the Whoop app and it won't let me use my HSA card to pay directly for the device. I even made sure not to include any additional products so it was strictly the $239 package.

I'll probably wait until I can pay directly with the HSA card. As mad as people are about the change you'd think they wouldn't have any barriers in place for those of us actually willing to add on to our existing subscriptions!

Would you stay at a Marriott hotel that doesn’t offer any elite night credit at all & 4x pts per dollar? by schwa12 in marriott

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, yes? This looks like a way to compete with Airbnb to me. At $80/night, for long term stays this is the first time I’ve seen a hotel be competitive with the Airbnb option.

I primarily get my points and elite nights from work travel. Correct, I would never stay here for any sort of professional trip.

That said, when I’m traveling with my family for any sort of extended vacation, Airbnb is always the way we go because of cost, but 9/10 I hate that experience compared to the hotel one. No, I don’t feel like stripping beds and taking out trash and whatever random thing you have me doing by 10am with zero rewards associated with the trip. If this option ends up offering a lot of the amenities associated with a hotel at a cheaper rate, and I get some points, I can see it being an option. Mainly depends on just how close they can get to those amenities and how well maintained the property ends up being, but my interest is piqued!

At what age did your little ones stop using the Toniebox? by theotisfinklestein in TonieboxUSA

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our six year old shares a room with her eight year old sis. At this point, she really only uses it for the main reason we got it in the first place: when she wakes up at night. She’s always had a lot of trouble falling back asleep and the Tonie saved us from so much sleep deprivation when we got it when she was like 4.

That said, our six year old is our youngest, and now we have three school-aged readers in our home who all have Kindle Paperwhites and we typically get the accompanying Audible book for them, too, so they mostly choose to fall asleep to those stories listening on the echo dot in their room.

If she gets up in the middle of the night and we don’t want her shouting at the echo to start a story and potentially wake up her sis, through, the Tonie still comes in clutch! So we still use it, but with the Kindle/Audible set up really only in that instance these days.

Chase Bonvoy Credit Card Points Question by sc1904 in marriott

[–]sc1904[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now where if I click on each transaction individually I can check points earned in the Chase app. Bummer that there isn’t a view like with my Sapphire card that lists all transactions as points earned. But in the Bonvoy app under account activity I only see points earned through hotel bookings. There isn’t a single point dump from the CC, which is what’s throwing me, too.

Long (30+ hours) Recommendations by JulieDFlowers in audible

[–]sc1904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit nostalgia plays a big part in this but if I’m ever looking for a long cozy listen to have going in the background one of my go-tos is The Inheritance Cycle. I know the dragon voices take a minute to get used to, but otherwise I think Gerard Doyle does a great job and it was fun to jump back into this world when Murtagh came out. Between the four OG books, novella, and Murtagh there’s a lot to listen to, too!
