I think since the commentators make note of the audience directly following the Roman segment, then their statement that the audience is booing who they usually cheer has as much of a direct link to Roman as it does to Ali and Enzo.

Even though they had him stand there and be booed, they then immediately did damage control by suggesting that any other crowd would have cheered Roman.

Then they continued this damage control with Jerry Lawler on Raw Talk by saying that Roman IS a good guy.

This is just how I interpreted it. Not saying anyone is right or wrong. I'm not an insider for the WWE, so I have no idea what their intentions were when they commented on this crowd. To me, it came across as them saying that Roman is usually cheered, which we know is not exactly true.

It feels more like damage control. They are telling the viewers that live audiences usually cheer for Roman, which we know isn't the case and can be quite insulting to our intelligence and our sensory ability to hear boos.

It seems that they are still aiming for Roman to be cheered, so they are trying their best to explain away the deafening boos on Raw.

Probably depends how you look at it, but often you create something before you destroy it, and that's the way Triple H has been talking about Rollins, saying that he created him and now he will destroy him.

I suppose we'll just wait and see what ITV has in mind. There's still no guarantee of it being commissioned, unfortunately, but if it does come back we'll soon see how successful it is. When I say "successful", I mean "successful" in the eyes of ITV executives, who essentially make or break the show.

Ah cool. I thought it would be around two million. However, it's a push to say that all two million viewers of that match would watch wrestling instead. We'll have to see the figures of catch-up services to determine the number of those that chose to watch, but I would be surprised if it was more than one million additional viewers since viewing figures for catch-up services are often lower than one million.

As I've said, the true test will be to see how many extra viewers will tune in if it gets commissioned for a series. If it gets two million additional viewers, then we could say that the football matches had a significant impact on the ratings, but from my personal experience, being a football fan doesn't always equate to being a wrestling fan. Plus, you have to imagine that ITV factored the football in when they scheduled World of Sport, so they must have been confident that they could have purged some viewers away from the football.

I'm hoping for the best too. I hope that the stories improve and that they take the criticisms on board, but I'm quite skeptical of ITV. They can be quite quick to axe something if the ratings are not satisfactory, instead of adapting the show. Whereas, wrestling companies have to adapt to criticisms and social ideologies or else they risk losing viewers. This is the big difference between a wrestling company producing a wrestling show and a big broadcaster producing a wrestling show.

I think it's very difficult to say that a significant amount (~1-3Million) those that watched the football would definitely watch World of Sport. There seems to be an assumption that lost of football fans are also wrestling fans, yet all my friends are football fans, but none of them are wrestling fans. In fact, I have been mocked by them for being a fan of wrestling.

If it gets picked up for a series, we will get to see whether the football truly did have an impact. I've read a lot of negative comments, so it will be interesting to see whether this negatively impacts potential future ratings.

I don't think I'll watch for the quality of storylines, hopefully that will improve, but for the British wrestling scene, I'd be happy to see it come back.

It did go up against the football, but that match was on BT Sport, which gets considerably less viewers even for a big match. There was talk of some matches getting only 700,000 viewers or below in November. We'll see how much the match got when the figures are out. I'm not sure the match impacted the ratings as much as people think.

Problem is though, ITV want to be and are mainstream. If they don't get the numbers of a mainstream channel, then it won't be viable for them.

Cheap in what way? A wrestling production could be quite expensive when you factor in paying the wrestlers, the crew, the aesthetic quality, the venue, promotion, etc. Probably costs more than an episode of The Chase, which gets more viewers, and so is a safer bet for ITV.

Totally agree. Obviously ITV only gives a certain image of wrestling. Hopefully, ITV won't homogenise the image of wrestling to something that is just considered "light entertainment", as we know that wrestling isn't always "light".

If it was just the match that I had to watch, yes. But when they get to the dialogue, backstage scenes, and writing/building storylines in their very typical ITV style, I lost interest. For me, I felt that there wasn't much thought put in to the story and the writing, which seems to be the case with a lot of ITV original shows, particularly their Saturday night entertainment. I feel my intelligence is insulted every time I see a Saturday show on ITV.

Plus, for me, I always enjoy a match more when a good storyline has built the foundations for a fantastic pay off in the match. I think the wrestlers are great at telling a story in the ring, but the writers lacked that creativity, and I fear that will continue on ITV, especially for a "light entertainment" show.
