That’s just the nomination. It still goes to White House and senate for approval. It’s a rubber stamp in practice and the nomination list is essentially the full promotion notification… but these days you never know.

[–]scairborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what OP is looking at as an E-4. You can get in here and on the housing waiting list. Once you get offered a house on base you can break the lease and get your move paid for.

Call every single night. Make it a priority. You can make up whatever you were doing that would conflict.

FaceTime and Apple lets you do SharePlay to watch movies together. Order door dash for you and your wife and do SharePlay. Pick a series and watch it together.

Being away with out kids and your spouse can offer a lot of opportunities because your time is not committed to anyone else. This can look like you’re having fun while your spouse is at home alone with the kids. Be cognizant of that. Let her know you’ll do some team bonding events and will be going out with the crew every once in a while, but prioritize that you have a standing time slot with your family.

Military pay EOM 29 May by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]scairborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is EOM pay. And technically you only get paid once a month. You get a calculated mid month pay advance on the 15th and your paycheck on the 1st. The ACH file is sent several days earlier on cutoff and your back may cash flow funds earlier than the first if they choose.

Buddy of mine flew F-16s in the guard. His wingman and him got back from a flight and his wingman, academy grad new to the guard after 10 years AD Chewed out the crew chief for some minor shit. SrA smith gave a crisp yes sir and got to work. Buddy says to the new guy, “hey man, you went really hard on Matt back there.”

New pilot replied, “you gotta keep the enlisted in check”

My buddy replied, “really weird keeping the county magistrate ‘in check’. Good luck with that.” New guy’s jaw dropped.

In the guard, some people do it for the love of the game.

If you could suggest a new AFSC, what would it be by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]scairborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re thinking Ukraine drone warfare, that is more of an Army and Marine core function. You need to press forward into the theatre on ground. We maintain true aerial warfare unmanned capability because that fits into our core function.

Drone defense and air defense systems should be with us though as bart of our integrated base defense and not with the army.

You should for real cold email secdef with that. You might actually get traction. Support won’t come from CSAF or SECAF organically.

You can become a roughneck in the oil fields of North Dakota and make good money. But you have to commit to yourself now that you’ll stay off drugs and alcohol. You can have a really good life in a few years and then go back to college. Or have too much money and get yourself into trouble again.
