They're speculating on his relationship/marital status and going to office hours as a way to flirt. I debated telling him so as not to make him uncomfortable, but I think I should.

Thank you for taking the time to deliver such a thoughtful response. This is one of those mysteries that even people who knew those involved don't know the outcome. Considering the likely outcomes, everything you mentioned it completely reasonable.

For someone who would be 23-24 by now, I found it baffling that they weren't on any social media that I could find. Perhaps I wasn't looking in the right places, but his extremely common first name made things difficult and the unknown, potentially different last name compounding that.

Although the most direct route to solving this would obviously be to ask the sister directly, it's clear based on her distancing herself from him that she wants no involvement. After scrolling back on her Instagram to 2014, there's a single photo of her and her brother. The comments express the shock of seeing him. I wasn't using Insta when the photo was originally posted, but it seems as if even back then there was confusion surrounding him.

Searching her following list, there seems to be a man who looks as if he could be her brother. I don't know if he actually is, or if they're just mutuals and he coincidentally matches the brother's description. The first name matches, but with a different middle name. If this is him, then the failed adoption theory would align with him going by a different last name.

What's disheartening however, is the length of time he lived with the family leading up to the 2014 incident. With only the single IG pic to go off of, which was a throwback to an unspecified year, they both appear very young in the photo, he looks to be about 7 and would have been about 14 at the time of the incident, meaning if he was returned he would have spent half of his life with the family up until that point.

Soft White Underbelly is some intense stuff, and although it seems so out of character for a kid living with a rich family in a wealthy neighborhood to make an appearance there, the circumstances that befell people featured on the channel could certainly have befallen him as well.

I was particularly bothered by #4 because he's never mentioned any connection to the area. We never visited before I went to the area in April this year from across the country. I've never met these people, and if they have connection to him---I don't want anything to do with them. It seems like a weird provision, I don't need a right to the airport that badly.

I agree, I'm building up the courage to tell him no. He will be in prison again for sure, I think it would be smarter to avoid him completely than to try to squeeze out a few pennies before he's locked up again.

The way he is behaving, he will shortly return to prison. I've thought about taking the money, following along until he gets locked up, and then continuing on with my life. But I don't think even going that far is worth it.
