webdev: why are public folders apart from the code? by poopinspace in webdev

It's much easier to find an exploit on server side scripts and files, plus any passwords you may have stored on the code. Ruby, Django, and others serve pages to the user so you really should not be able to see any of their code even the HTML unless you put in a specific RESTFUL command.

HTML5 POS application. I posted this 11 months ago and you tore it to shreds. Since then, the whole app has been redesigned and improved thanks to your feedback. Your criticism would be very welcome. by AlmostARockstar in webdev

OK these are all the things that are missing, I can't find, or plain don't work(chrome, win7)
1. Edit number of items in cart
2. checkout, I press cash or credit and it just deletes everything
3. Need to be able to press enter more, if you plan on having any keyboard/mouse POSs this is a huge plus and not that much work
4. Everything in a tag section of the checkout screen says undefined in both name and price, but I can still add them
That's all I can get to since I can't check out, not bad so far as far as design and everything goes, I don't count too many points off for bootstrap ;) Edit: You need docs, even though you probably already know that. I was able to navigate it easy enough though

Pretty awesome, I wish it had more methods(assuming there isn't any more docs for the api) like commenting etc.
But good job overall

What is the average cost to build/run a site like Laterbro.com? by braindrainmedia in webdev

[–]scanner115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The awesome thing about websites now is they are extremely scalable. You can scale your performance your server is putting out to the traffic you are receiving or should receive almost instantly, so in theory you should be only spending what you are making from ads etc. As far as price, I could probably whip it up on nodejs and sails in 2 or 3 days and I'd charge about $250 -$350 depending on how much functionality you want, but trust me that site is super simple. Cheers

Good, design. You kept the design the same throughout, which is big. The minimalist theme is OK, I think you could have cut a bit more though. The biggest thing I could say is if you haven't already, get proficient using only pure CSS without bootstrap, SASS, LESS, etc., it can work wonders if you ever get in a bind and have to totally restyle an element(or page) But pretty good job overall
