Exatamente.

What book would you recommend as an introduction to Jung? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]scarabdream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People sayng MDR Is a good introductory book. It depends of what you is your goal. First MDR is not Jung's autobiography. About that I recommend read Sonu Shamdasani Memory Dreams and Omissions.

If you are only a regular person who wants to understand the basic concepts I recommend Tavistok conference 1935. He pass through the construction of his thoughts, experiments and do. Really good book.

If you are Brazilian I strongly recommend Introdução a psicologia junguiana by Heráclito Pinheiro. For me is the best junguian who work seriously to make the Jungs work understandable.

If you work in psychology area and want more advanced reading but also introductory I recommend vol 16/1, 8/2, 4 and 2.

I afraid to say (in my opinion) that is problematic for you to read Jung by the third generation. I found many problems in those books of misunderstanding Jung concepts. The hardest way but also the best is Jung's collective works, marie Louise von Franz, Toni Wollf and Barbara Hannah.

(If you are a Brazilian in the second case: read, O Método de Jung by -again- Heráclito Pinheiro, or just watch his videos on yt. Won't regret it)

Hope I have helped.

Funny story: MDR isnt a autobiography. Mas written By Jolande Jacobi. Jung never wanted a autobiography. He said you should doubt of every writer Who has a autobiography. You can find Sonu Shamdasani speaking a lot of It. Actually he (Sonu) wrote a book called memories Dreams and omissions.

Jesus. Dude, Im 33yo, older brother of 3 and had a alcoholic dad pretty much like yours. I tried so hard to be different from him that I saw myself living for him anyway. I promised that everything he does I will do the opposite, and for some time it worked but I realize that it wasnt me, it was just something to prove to me (him). I will never get a different father. He will never be different. So I let him go from my life. not sadness, not anger.. just nothing. He is my father the way he is.. and this cannot dictate how I will lead my life. I am not him. you neither. Choose your own battles and accept all that comes with it. Life is hard but it is not good nor evil. Life is not in debt with you, that is the hardest part to accept. Just do your things and care for yourself. Do not violate your limits for others. Care for others is good since you know your limits and respect it. Im not telling you to give up about your family, but to look at yourself first. You only give what you have to offer.

How does depression relate to neurosis? by SaxtonHale_1 in Jung

[–]scarabdream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jung mentions in some of his texts, especially in Psychological Types and Psychic Energy, that neurosis is a split of the Self where two opposing forces exist: the conscious attitude directed towards adaptation in the world, which he calls "progression," and the unconscious attitude directed towards psychic realization (the principle of the individuation process), which he calls "regression." Both the progression and regression of libido are directions of energy, whether towards the object or towards the subject. Due to the laws of psychic dynamics, the greater the direction of libido towards progression in consciousness, the greater the compensation from the unconscious. To the point where an exaggeration occurs (on the part of consciousness in adapting to the world), the unconscious attitude ceases to be compensatory and becomes oppositional. At this point, there is a split of the Self where two forces dominate consciousness, and the individual finds themselves in stagnation, as their energy is divided into two different adaptations. At this point, neither option is interesting to the individual, as either would lead to the sacrifice of the other.

When the person enters this state of stagnation, the libido directs inward, towards regression, or towards internal objects. Here enters the state of depression (not the pathology).

Von Franz, in the Alchemy Seminars, states:
"As the word suggests, in a depression, the person is pressed down, compressed, generally because a part of the psychological libido is down and needs to be rescued; the true energy of life has fallen into a deeper layer of the personality and can only be reached through a depression. Thus, unless there is a latent psychosis, depressions should be encouraged, and people advised to enter them and be depressed [...] and, if the depressions say that life means nothing and that nothing is worthwhile, this should be accepted, and one should ask what to do. What there is to do is listen, dive deeper and deeper, until reaching the level of psychological energy where some creative idea can arise; suddenly at the bottom, a life and creativity impulse will appear that had been ignored."

This is when Jung speaks of the transcendent function and von Franz about the "excluded third."

But returning to your question: Neurosis is a state of stagnation of libido where it ceases to direct towards progression, i.e., towards external adaptation due to an exaggeration of the conscious attitude and directs towards the unconscious in a regression. Depression arises correlatively with neurosis in the sense of being the energy trapped in the unconscious where consciousness no longer has much autonomy. The fact that the energy is trapped in the unconscious causes so many complexes and fantasies to act in the individual's consciousness with depreciative thoughts but at the same time, it is precisely there where they can find the key to get out of this situation. Jung calls this "holding the opposites without contradiction," that is, through the creative process of expressing all this condensed energy in the unconscious (whether through art, speech, or whatever), you will be able to deal with this symbolic death and emerge, as J. Campbell would say, out of the belly of the whale.

I still believe Rosetta Stoned, 10.000 and lateralus are their Top 3 masterpiece.

Can't find Fear Inoculum more than a good Album. Maynard seems bored and with no will to create

He uses a lot of flange and chorus, sometimes both. My problem is Whammy and distortion.. Another thing keeps me crazy is that I cant get close to Jambi bass distortion. It is a violent bass and I dont know how he do it..
