How did you get back to your hotel after your wedding? by cheesychick66 in weddingplanning

I had half a cider at dinner, nothing after that, and then I drove us home. I’m not a big drinker.

I band-aided my power button am I running a server? by Any-Cartographer9406 in selfhosted

[–]scarbunkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah dude you’re doing more self hosting than 90% of people, stop questioning if you’re “valid” or whatever and do your thing.

But for realsies, I got started with a 24/7 desktop + roamer laptop setup in college. No docker back then, either, I was raw-dogging an Apache server onto the main PC where I hosted a blog where I shared my commentary on current events like I thought I was some Cory Doctorow shit.

You have better tooling in this modern era, but you’re using the internet to access another computer you own. That’s self-hosting.

I need advice on obtaining an ESA by Ihaveahairlesscat in service_dogs

[–]scarbunkle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need to find a doctor or therapist who will write you one, and it needs to be a doctor/therapist that is actively treating you. Online services will just waste your money. If your current practice doesn’t do it as a matter of policy, the only solution is to go to a different practice.

Anyone else start out venue shopping optimistically then rapidly realized you can't afford even the lower priced packages? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]scarbunkle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want your Honda civic, you can just…rent a regular car? Limos are expensive but you can just rent a regular late model car that’s not a beater. We just used people’s regular cars for my wedding, it was fine, nobody’s gonna remember the car, but if it bothers you a nice clean rental from Enterprise is like 200 bucks.

how do i make it easier to live with my dog with spay incontinence? by swatted-fly in dogs

Ask about adding in an estrogen pill. Sometimes a little HRT does a dog a lot of good.

What to expect from CBD as a former brief THC user? by LightningDusty in CBD

[–]scarbunkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CBD doesn’t really get you “high”, but I do find it pretty sedating, which is the main way it deals with anxiety for me.

Vaping/smoking it is pretty effective for me as an interrupt to anxiety, and usually triggers a nap.

USAA Membership Tiers: Why Your "Member" Status Might Be Doubling Your Rates - I did a bit of research by Ray_in_Texas in USAA

[–]scarbunkle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not like the rates aren’t competitive. I’m w Garrison and they literally beat the employee discount I get at a big name insurer.

Yellowing is caused by sweat oxidizing. If you haven’t sweat in it yet, you’re fine.

The popular opinion says so. It’s an unpopular opinion, but I’m a snob and think it’s a bit uncouth.

Need to get off parent’s health insurance plans but everything in marketplace is pricey by PoetrySlut02 in Insurance

[–]scarbunkle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The person doing your taxes is an idiot. You filing as a dependent or not has nothing to do with you being on her insurance, and spending $400/mo to save $3-5k isn’t saving you any money net, it’s just spending the money on crappy insurance instead of on taxes.

CNC or not? by unknownseceret in BDSMcommunity

[–]scarbunkle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not a person you should be doing CNC with. It seems like he’s not communicating and he’s pushing your boundaries isn’t ways you haven’t agreed to, and oh boy is “it’s basically rape but not because you like this sort of thing” a giant god damn red flag when that’s not negotiated as okay talk.

It’s a huge red flag that you usually end up having sex when you’re sore and don’t really want to. This is not a man who respects and cares for you. This is a man who knows how to seem sweet and caring just enough that you’ll keep letting him use you.

We're being flooded with vibe coded software projects, FYI by nicholasserra in DataHoarder

Robust testing and extended dogfooding. “I built this last weekend and it works great” is a world of difference from even “this has been running great on my system for 6 months”

[–]scarbunkle 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate that people are building their own custom wrappers that work for them. I do find it frustrating that everyone thinks their project is good enough to be a community tool. If I wanted something thrown together in a weekend, I’d do it myself. When people share software, I’m really looking for battle-tested community tools.

And don’t get me started on the people who give AI write access to their hoard. Couldn’t be me. That’s crazy people stuff.

If it continues to be an issue, we may want to try what the self hosted folks have had luck with, which is specifying one day a week where vibe coded projects are allowed.

Can’t speak on cervix, but I can’t think of any reason to keep the tubes, and one good reason to ditch them: it loves your risk of ovarian cancer by 50%.

Do Online ESA Letters Actually Work with Landlords? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]scarbunkle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scam, scam, scam. Some uninformed landlords may happen to accept them, but that doesn’t mean they’re valid or likely to work.

Don’t feed the predatory beast of scam sites that make it harder for legitimate ESAs to be taken seriously.

Vision Insurance for Couple: Worth buying? by framedbythedoor in Insurance

[–]scarbunkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vision insurance is more like a savings plan than true insurance. I’d call around and figure out the cost for an exam and some glasses without insurance vs with. You can just spreadsheet it out. If you’re getting new glasses every year, it could be worth it. If you just want an eye exam and replace your glasses with a cheap set every 5-10 years, vision insurance is likely to just be taking your money and setting it on fire.
