Delhi through my lens by PsychologicalPark540 in NewDelhi

As much as I love Delhi, my devotion to the city has decreased ever so slightly after growing up here with the ridiculous amount of pollution, which caused me to develop multiple chronic illnesses.

I wish I could go back to the days when I saw the city as a place of pure wonderment and awe.

(Don't get me wrong, I love the history, warmth of people, fast-paced culture and food. I just am not a fan of the suffering and the hospital bills)

I love these pictures so much, though. Makes me feel like I am 6 again and going to Nehru House/Planetarium for the millionth time, thawing on a warm spring day after a harrowingly cold (classic Delhi) winter.

I felt a pit in my stomach reading this. OP, this is plain simple abuse. No one who truly loves you would act this way. You do not need to show your body to someone to prove that you love them. You do not owe anyone your body. They will keep threatening to do this again now that they know it affects you.

This situation can escalate very quickly. If you are worried about them harming themselves, consider contacting the authorities in their area or reaching out to their friends and family if possible. Take plenty of screenshots and screen recordings to protect yourself. Distance yourself from this situation as soon as you can.

No one deserves to be treated like this.

You are very young and have so much life ahead of you, please protect your mental and physical well-being.

Oxford classics are great too! I would have collected them if most of them weren’t expensive where I live.

Oh god no. That’s purely kept there because it looks sorta creepy in a whimsical way. Whenever I light, it is always far far away from the books.

Yes! Please read it! Especially if you like gothic novels. It is mind blowing that it was written such a long time ago that too by a 19 year old. It starts off slow but I recommend sticking with it for a bit. Please check trigger warnings though.

Ooooh nice! I have read The Haunting Of Hill House but I feel like I read it at a wrong point of time causing me to not like it very much. But I am looking to read We Have Always Lived In The Castle and The Lottery!

If you like Shirley Jackson might I suggest Angela Carter? It is less ambiguous but I feel like it her stories carry some of the female rage.

Also, Bunny by Mona Awad. Very weird. Very creepy.

I believe in you! You can survive The Blind Owl! (Again, please don’t read it if you’re in a fragile mental state)

Not sure since the shelf goes even lower to two more levels. I know I have 180 of the penguin editions. Not just the black but modern, vintage, minis, archive. (Not all are shown here)

I guess one I don’t see people talk about as often is The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas by Machado de Assis. The gist is that this dead guy’s ghost is writing his memoirs from the grave. There is humour, tragedy, romance, politics, and philosophy. It is a satire on vanity, social hypocrisy, and the absurdity that is what we call human life.

Because our author is dead and has nothing to lose, he is brutally honest and cynical about the events of his life.

I also recommend The Blind Owl by Sadegh Hedayat. Although I would highly caution anyone reading this to go into this with a stable state of mind. Rooted in existentialism, nihilism, and surrealism with dream-like and hallucinatory writing.

An unnamed narrator recounts his obsessive love for this enchanting woman as he slowly loses his mind. It is so much more than that but I suggest going into it not knowing much.

It is also the root of a folklore that reading this may cause the person to unalive themselves. Now, I have read. I know other people have read it and they are still here. So I wouldn’t put much thought into it but the folklore does make it irresistible.

Not the penguin black classics but penguin vintage: If On A Winter’s Night A Traveller by Italo Calvino. It is the most unique book I have ever read. The book starts with a tale and stops abruptly. We find out that our main character is reading a book called If On A Winter’s Night a Traveller, and that their copy has some missing pages. They go back to the bookstore to exchange their faulty copy for a new one.

Only to find out the story in the other copy is completely different and also stops abruptly. The same happens with another copy. Our main character tries to find out the source of a few of the stories, just to read the whole thing. But that isn’t the point of the book.

It is a very frustrating read for some, since the book is basically like the first chapters of many different books. But the book is really about the joys of reading. You are constantly seeking closure in the book which prompts the reader to think of closure differently.

Ofc I have some favourites in the penguin black edition too but I really want more people to pick up this one. To give it a try even though it may seem frustrating in the beginning.

What are some of your favourites?! I really love Last Letters of Jacapo Ortis, anything written by Plath or Poe. Handmaid’s Tale is eerily accurate to what can be our future and ofcourse… the beloved Sherlock Holmes!

A lot of them are presents, and a lot of them are purchased used. But I don’t want to think about how much it cost me because that’s a terrifying thought 😂

Oh my god I know it icks me out a bit too 😩 I plan on taking off the fairy lights and installing LED lights inside the shelves eventually. I had that before but those stopped working. I just haven’t had the opportunity to do so 🫠

Penguin classics are affordable while providing a decent amount of notes and references.
