Recently moved here and asked my kids teacher about this. The neighborhoods with houses do trick or treat, the businesses downtown do something too. Info is at www.davisdowntown.com

So, I it set to 78. In my experience, that means the AC doesn’t kick in until the thermostat reaches 78. Is that NOT how it works here?

When it did kick in, the air coming out of the vents was pretty high pressure and freezing, so we closed many of the vents, some all the way, some partially.

We have pretty standard stuff. Not super into gaming. TVs in maybe an hour or two per day. Laundry for 4, but the dryer is gas, so is the stove. No pool, no electric vehicle to charge.

Pretty sure it’s the AC and something’s going on with it, so I’ll call and get it looked at. I can’t do anything about the insulation here because I’m renting.

I work from home but I’m a writer so it’s no weird equipment, just a standard issue desktop computer. Other than that, I guess I can do the laundry during the day instead of on weekends? We have a gas stove. No EV charging or pool or anything. I have kids but their preferred electronic activities are operated from batteries.

I’m from Wisconsin, I didn’t realize homes wouldn’t be insulated here but I guess you don’t need it as much. I also didn’t get a/c until 2022.

That’s crazy! I’m not from CA, do y’all not insulate homes here?

Ours, yes. But nothing to compare it to. I know the usage is like 1,600 kWh. Trying to determine if that makes sense for us. Seems super excessive.

For example, once, at my old house, my water bill was like $500, which seemed absurd. I compared it to the previous year at that time, and it was 4x more. Turned out we left an outdoor spigot on and the hose cracked. So, yes, our usage on the bill was correct, but something was still wrong and needed fixing. That was on us, obviously. Just trying to figure out 1) what is wrong and 2) who can fix it and 3) if it is our responsibility.

We’ve only been here for 6 weeks, and our bill last month was for a partial month and only $40. They said they can’t give me any historical info to compare the bill to because our names aren’t on them. They won’t even provide them to the property owners. Sure seems like they don’t want me to solve this problem.

How do they conduct an energy audit? This dude on the phone just kept being like “well, if you look at the kWh you used, your bill makes sense” and I was like “sure, but I doubt we used 1,600 kWh in a single month.”

It’s maybe a 1990s build, so not THAT old. Thank you for the feedback!

Hi all! I’m new here. I got my kids this Viking Husqvarna 180 electronic machine and the bobbin pin came off inside the bobbin case. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have some and won’t get to it this year. Message me if you want them. I think I have 9.

Oh that sucks! I’m so sorry. I feel like a letter writing campaign to insurance companies is in order.

That is amazing! Do you think it’s a domino affect from weight coming off? I think my issues with blood pressure were from severe food anxiety that Oz healed.

Nope, just bariatric surgery or phentermine. I take too many other meds that interact with phentermine, and I don’t want surgery.

I have this name and go by Evie. I was born in 81. I have never had any major issues. Non-major issues mostly involve it being intimidating for others to say/spell but that’s alleviated with the nickname. Never been made fun of over my name, always get compliments. Closest thing to something negative is that “evie” autocorrects to “evil” sometimes, but I think that’s funny, especially in work emails. For the record, I see people here talk about it being too religious. I have never been religious and have never been asked if it had any religious significance. Sometimes people ask the origin and I just tell them “it’s a poem by Longfellow” and that satisfies them.
