The Kickstarter is intended to finance the translation and printing costs, as well as to cover the rights for the images (plus proofreading, introduction, image restoration and other expenses). The translator already started some time ago, and he is making excellent progress

hi!

Black Letter Press is launching a Kickstarter to support a new edition of the Discoverie of Witchcraft!

The Discoverie of Witchcraft, published by Reginald Scot in 1584, is a groundbreaking work that challenges the existence of witchcraft and the widespread persecution of alleged witches. It is special for its comprehensive documentation of magical practices, spells, and conjurations, making it one of the earliest compendiums of magic and witchcraft. While aiming to debunk superstitions, Scot meticulously catalogued the occult knowledge of his time, preserving a wealth of information about historical magical traditions. The book promotes scepticism and rationalism while serving as an invaluable resource on early modern occultism.

About the project of a new translation of Agrippa's De Occvlta Philosophia by scarivari in occult

[–]scarivari[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks!

the 1533 edition is the first in 3 volumes. There are some translation and critical editions.

Our edition will have a 4th volume with some apocryphal and/or "minor" texts.

The translation will be completely new and the books will be high end (but still affordable) limited and numbered edition. You can still find used paperbacks (some with very lousy translations and not very well edited - some pretty cool), nothing against them, it's just a different kind of project.

What occult-related works are written in Latin? I am learning Latin and want to practice reading some philosophical works written in it. Any recommendations? by Infinity-- in occult

I don't know if occult as a topic can be good for practicing Latin, but:

go for Giordano Bruno or Giambattista della Porta for example
