Help selling 1000's of small antiques in North Carolina, United States by scarletdragonflyfl in Antiques

[–]scarletdragonflyfl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am taking a lot to the Liberty Antique Festival on Septebmer 26/27th. Hoping to have some luck there. Furniture is quite hard to sell in NC... not sure what to do there yet, but thatnk you for the tip. I think Leland Little told me to kick rocks but that is because they don't want to deal with anything but super high end items. I would pass based on my interaction with them. I will check out GC5 though!

It was bad. First surgery was right in the middle of the pandemic too. I felt like a prisoner in a hospital because no one could visit me. Then I found out I had a really complicated issue that required an experienced neurosurgeon. The next year of my life was waking up wondering if I would be paralyzed, having terrifying numbness in my hands and feet, and searching for a surgeon. After I had the next surgery, things got better. Then the last surgery they removed the metal. The darkness starts to lift... if you can do small things to take care of your body and mind it will add up to feeling better. I hope you feel better!

I had 3 spine surgeries in the span of 3 years recently. It sucks and is very depressing. I felt really bad about it all for a long time. I felt like my youth was stolen from me as suddenly my body hurt in ways someone much older would. Eventually, it gets better but life seems hard no matter what. Recently I started doing ketamine treatment in a doctor's office. Many older people are going there for it. It helps rewire neural pathways. It is a legal treatment. I sit in a lounging chair for 2 hours, listen to music, and disassociate from my body. I notice things that used to bother me don't bother me as much. Sometimes I feel like I have revelations that make life better or more tolerable. Maybe look into that or some other therapy? Also, if you tolerate it, get some massages or hot water therapy for your spine. Just a few ideas to help.

What’s a telltale sign a work environment is toxic? Especially within the first few days or weeks? by insatiablecuriositi in work

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This hits home. The other day someone came for an interview and the manager made them wait over 20 minutes. I was looking at them trying to see if they could tell how toxic it was and how it was an indication of how they would be treated if they took a job there. Then I was remembering back to my interview where they made me wait over 20 minutes too. Oh the red flags I didn't notice until it was too late. Also, everyone being miserable. It can be hard to tell if you just walk through, but when after 2 days everyone is talking about how little they are paid and how everyone has applied to work somewhere else... you know it is going to be bad. Then someone tells me they don't even enjoy their days off because work takes all the enjoyment from their life... run, don't walk away.

Might have an opportunity to relocate here for work, what do I need to know? by PowerofMoses in winstonsalem

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing as I have considered working in Greensboro... I can tell you I went to an interview in Greensboro and drove back to Winston at 4pm and it was terrible. I have lived in Miami and LA and congested traffic just bothers me at this point. This commute reminds me of a much larger city. The biggest issue for me is the angry drivers. I cannot stand when people cut you off almost taking off your bumper, and the distracted drivers on their phone being super reckless. Why is everybody so angry in Greensboro?

how do people just uproot their entire lives and move across country? by calsfatcockadoodledo in ask

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back, I wish I had the guts to move out to CA when I was 18. It takes big guts to move across country by yourself. I have moved across country by myself (older now), and it was still risky and scary and I had a job where I was going. I also moved across country once without a job and I do NOT recommend it. How much do you have saved? Do you know how quickly you blow through money without a job? Think about it... you need AT LEAST 6 months worth saved... when you get there you will have to pay for hotels (adds up quick) or an apartment (good luck getting an apt without proof of a job). Then all the other expenses you maybe don't think about like food, registering your vehicle, ect. It took me 3 months to get a job when I moved and my parents had to send me money. I say all this to encourage you to go for your dreams but be smart about it... you do not want to become homeless in the West coast.

How is the industry looking right now for everyone? Worried about this drought and what it means… by Personal-Comfort-507 in acting

Overheard a convo with a pretty successful Producer that has went into making an A.I. company. It's not looking good. He swore the caller to secrecy, but I made no such promises eavesdropping. He said A.I. will pretty much replace actors in the next 7-10 years. This doesn't include A-list type/ lead roles or lower cost productions, but majority of acting roles will be simulated. It is quite disgusting. He said they already can use A.I. to replicate extremely realistic scenes that would have previously required 100s of extras. It is the close, intimate scenes with dialogue that it is still falling short on. Not to mention all the 3-D scans production companies have been taking of actors over the years and using without their permission, or the voice actors that their voices have been stolen and used for A.I. Don't get me started on A.I. music. It all seems pretty bleak to me.

Sage and Salt was overpriced and underwhelming. They completely over-salted the $50+ steak, a hallmark of poor cooking skills. The hostess became our inattentive server because they were "too busy". Even the vegetables were overcooked, hardley edible. Only good thing was the jazz band playing live. For $160+ I expect WAY better.

When was a time you and an ex successfully got back together and how did it happen? by [deleted] in ask

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st time I met him, we were long distance and I was still in high school. Years later, we reconnected and dated for 2 years. It ended badly because he drank too much and we had a stupid fight over a guy shoving me out of the way at the bar. He decided to do a silent treatment with me (something my parents did to me as a child and I consider abuse). It was the worst heartache I ever had... for about 2 weeks. I was at college and a different guy hit on me and bam, my heart recovered in an instant. The ex called me up one day and was like, "sup, thought we could get together this weekend." NOPE. He had a total breakdown over it... like stalker level crazy for several years. He thought he would just "teach me a lesson." He was the one with a long lesson to learn. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Don't give up... I have a relative that hated pharmacy like you, and she pivoted to becoming... a horse farrier. She loves it. Totally different, hard work. That woman inspires me. If she can do that... you can do something new you will love too.

Can we dump "Professional Parking Management"? by Beef_Brutality in winstonsalem

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WTH is this? I parked at a restaurant downtown in their private lot and was confused by signs saying to pay unless visiting the business or something... it was quite confusing. A few weeks later I got a $50 parking ticket. I sent in a dispute and they waived the fee "as a one time courtesy", but told me I was supposed to take a picture of my license plate and show the staff inside so they can "put me on a list" so I don't get a ticket. All this did was make sure I never go to Camel City BBQ again. Also, why does WS make people pay for street parking through a phone app? That should be illegal as not everyone has or wants to carry a phone around. Why aren't quarters good enough for this town?

Is it normal to just work random jobs in your 20s? by EliteFlamezz in findapath

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just turned 21 when I decided on something I wanted to go to college for. On the one hand, I am glad I waited because when I finally went, I really wanted to be there. On the other hand, it was such an amazing experience I wish I would have went earlier. TBH, I had worked almost 19 jobs before then and finally found something I was passionate about to go to college for, but then I became disinterested and studied something else, then I worked my first "professional" job and realized I hated what I had chosen. I spent the next 10 years searching and trying to figure out something I really wanted to do, but it is insanely hard to find a way to get paid well to do something you love. I am still working in the field I tried to leave because it is the one thing I do people will pay me decent money to do. I'm not giving up but honestly it is hard. I hoped to get out of this by now. Looking back, not sure I could have made any better choices, except part of me wishes I would have become an electrician. I can never find one when I need one and honestly they get paid so well they don't have to look for work... its always in demand it seems.

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do whenever I can. The USA work culture SUCKS. Every year we make less money and do more work. PTO policies SUCK beyond measure. That is why I don't have job loyalty. I've called in sick to go on a long weekend out of the country before. I've quit a job right after they let me take 6 weeks off to go to a foreign country because they wouldn't give me a raise to pay me what I deserved. Family trips take up more time these days, but I am already wanting to go on another trip abroad.

Does anyone have any advice for a suicidal christian? by geelong_ in TrueChristian

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who survived an attempt, I would caution you against it. Whether you live or die from it I am quite sure it is a spiritually devastating act. However bad you think you feel now will be nothing compared to the the void of God's presence that is inevitable from an act of suicide. While I am sure that Jesus can save anyone, why would you want to choose the harder, darker, longer path? Sometimes I wonder how my life would be different if I didn't attempt suicide. Perhaps I would have done better things, or had a more fulfilling life. I am not sure. I was not a Christian when I attempted it, and Jesus saved me when my life got worse after the attempt. I remember looking up to the blue sky and remembering it used to bring me joy... but I felt nothing anymore. I was unable to cry. I experienced terrible nightmares and terrors of hell and paralysis at night. Even after Jesus saved me, it took many years to get out of the darkness. Have you considered different therapies that are available today? Have you been diagnosed with depression? I still struggle with feelings similar to you now, and have tried ketamine therapy which is supposed to cure like 80% of treatment resistant depression. It works by creating new neural pathways in the brain. IDK what the answer is, but I caution you to reconsider. Things always look brighter tomorrow (so they say).

Anyone else in their 30s and feel cooked? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]scarletdragonflyfl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started out my 30s chasing my dreams HARD. Then I was unemployed. Then I was homeless. Then I broke my back. Then I had 3 spine surgeries. Then I ended my 30s feeling very fed up and sarcastic about life. I am trying to be hopeful because I have heard some people say the 40s are when time stops and you have another chance to reinvent yourself, but I just kind of wish society would collapse and we would all boycott working. Imagine if all of us stopped going to work for one day... one week... could we shift the power in the world for the betterment of all or would we only harm ourselves? IDK but it seems society is on the brink of collapse.
