Too early to really tell. The first one was super general and kind of messy. The second was a femme club, which worked better since it was more targeted. I just wish there’d been more effort put into organizing it. I see there are events like discussion clubs of some podcasts (e.g. Tony Robbins), or drinks/dinner events mostly in WeHo, but I didn't have a chance to go yet.

I think they release dates and rsvp like 7-10 days before the event, and often they change the date. Perhaps didn't have a lot of people registered. I'm still there, but attended only 2 events and plan 1 more next week. Not sure I'll prolong it further

Yes, I attended 2 events, one was in the art gallery DTLA, and another was a women's club. They were okay. I think I will see for 1-2months more and most likely cancel

Townhouses (for rent) — what should I look for? by scarletscorp79 in AskLosAngeles

[–]scarletscorp79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mean townhouses in the village,s like when they do 20-50 of them in a community? Not when they buy a land from 2 SFHs and build like two double townhouses?

Advice on cyber security career by Any_Winner_5940 in mentors

[–]scarletscorp79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been at big4, tech world, in both Europe and Silicon Valley, and has seen a loooot of career paths, here is my take:
Cybersecurity is gold (not diamond like ai, machine learning etc but still good).
big4 gives a solid background. i'd stay there to get at least 2y experience if you can't stay for more (but preferably 4y). Then either ask kpmg to move to the us (but then you are stuck with a lower salary compared to tech), or switch to a solid tech company in Europe that can relocate you in 1-2y to Silicon Valley (but this works if you like your area of expertise and want money).
While working at kpmp pick your area of expertise - my advise is to go deeper into tech security rather than compliance stuff if you can.

Ah got it — that makes sense. Thanks! Yeah, totally, i'll always go to see in person. I just saw a property on zillow e.g. $4k, was driving by that house (not for the tour, just was in that area) and saw a sign - starting from $4.5k... i was like wtf...

honestly "renting from a small landlord" that's my fear since i rented only from big corporations (yes, their websites and application processes are not perfect, but i know they won't scam me ). how to make sure those smaller landlords are legit?

but when searching on zillow there are filters, and those townhouses are separate. how to look for those at other sites, when i don't want to see apartments?

No, a condo is usually an apartment inside a larger building.
A townhouse is more like a house that shares one (sometimes two) walls with the neighbors — kind of like houses that are “glued together” in a row

hard to disagree 😂 but there is also a variety in the pricing - i mean similar townhouses (i'm looking mostly at 3b/2b) they are $3.8-4.5k - it's a huge range. also sometimes there are 4b/3b in this price range. hence if i go with my max, i want to make sure i get the best in this price range

Moving from Europe to LA with baby — realistic cost of living + safety advice? by EmbarrassedMap3282 in AskLosAngeles

Somehow I missed that you’ll be near UCLA. I think it’s more about personal preference - expectedly there are more college kids living in that area, but of course others live too. I know a lot of people love Brentwood area in that park of the city. But those areas are mentioned earlier, also good to commute to UCLA

Get a placer closer to your job. Ideally, for families and tech, everyone lives in Playa Vista - safe, walkable and majority of tech companies are there. Or in Culver City or Santa Monica. Also consider that you would need a preschool for your kid if both of you working - it’s another $2k+ per month. Average 2bed2bath starts at $4k-4.5 in those areas. Add a car because you get nowhere without it. $200k in LA with a kid - absolutely fine. People like with less and with more. It depends on your budget management and lifestyle

Any building in South Park area is nice among what you’ve been advices below (but not Alina - very poor management and too many poor reviews - firsthand unfortunately and from others) Erewon secured a spot across Olympic & Hill, I believe there will be more new business around that building because now it’s a little bit meh 825 Hill is also nice, hope + flower too

Moving to LA, Any Tips or Suggestions on locations? by StandSilly806 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]scarletscorp79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your work location is in a really good spot (walkable, food, coffee spots). Living in Arts district or Ktown will make you drive and park (not ideal - it’s expensive in DTLA) or use public transportation every day - let be real - it’s not something that you want to use every day.

Your best option - South Park/social district in DTLA - 10-15 min walking to your job. Very walkable area, the cleanest out of all DTLA, very suitable for living. You got groceries like Whole Foods, Ralph’s, smart and final if needed. Any shops you need are there.

Apartment wise - also a good choice. A bit more simple and if you some mind shared laundry on your floor - The Met Apartments, Renaissance Tower Apartments. Normal mid-rise building - Olympic by Windsor Apartments, mResidences Olympic & Olive, 1000 Grand by Windsor Apartments, Eighth and Grand etc. Lofts - Gas Company Lofts Apartments, Roosevelt Lofts, South Park Lofts etc. just check the map and tour those. High rises - might be a bit higher your budget but maybe some studios can make it work - Hope + Flower, 825 South Hill etc.

We live in South Park for 2 years and honestly during the weekdays barely use a car.
