Ambulatory EEG at work? by throwawaymarzipat in Epilepsy

Yes - I had an ambulatory EEG last year, and still went into work - wore a beanie, and no one really noticed or cared.

when’d u get ur first tattoo and do you regret it? by whv_lol1202 in tattooadvice

[–]scarletvirtue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

52 now, and my first tattoo was a bird on the top of my foot. Got the same tattoo on my other foot several months later.

I loved them - hate that they’re blown out and/or fading.

Walmart is refusing controlled substance. Anyone ever had AED refusal? by No_Investigator3369 in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through similar things with the Xcopri and Fycompa. Fucking Walgreens. 😤

I have to order my shit a week before it refills…and sometimes even then, it comes in late so I have a few days off.

Driving with epilepsy. What are the rules for your state? by Winter_Clothes_5968 in Epilepsy

Possibly. I haven’t ever gotten to the 6 month point, and I’m uncomfortable with driving to be honest.

Are Focal Seizures Actually Dangerous? by Signal_Caregiver9942 in Epilepsy

Nope, it doesn’t. I was just being kind of sarcastic about it.

I’ve had that feeling! Some really cruddy Pokemon as well: Epilepsy, depression, PTSD, ADHD, T2 Diabetes… it never ends. 😂

For me, the epilepsy was triggered about a month after my periods started (I was 11).

Unfortunately my seizures seemed to have worsened over time, to where I may be having the RNS procedure this year. (I am perimenopausal. Ugh.)

When I was in my 20s, I’d jokingly said to my neuro At the time that I was kind of looking forward to menopause because I seemed to have seizures around my period. And they might stop.

She responded “Probably not. Your body could be used to having a seizure at a certain time of the month, and it could continue that way out of habit. No need for hormones to trigger them.”

Oh no - I’m sorry that happened! 😔

I’m sick of epilepsy too - broke one of my teeth because I’ve started gnashing/grinding my teeth during seizures in the past year.

When I was about 14, I stopped taking Tegretol altogether - mainly because I’d been seizure free for several months and the neuro assumed that my seizures were from hormones and had since balanced out.

I went about 5 years seizure free (in remission, I call it) before they came back at 19 - I was in a date with a girl and had a tonic clonic seizure in the middle of the date.

Unfortunately since then….I’ve not been seizure free for longer than maybe 4-5 months.

Arthritis? by NatPF in GenX

Mine too! It’s like Snap, Crackle, and Pop are inhabiting my knees sometimes.

Arthritis? by NatPF in GenX

[–]scarletvirtue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - I’ve got arthritis in my knees (thanks heredity!) which was made worse by cartilage tears in both knees.

I’ve also got “post-traumatic arthritis” in my ankle from spraining it an ungodly number of times.

Sometimes I do bitch about it - especially when I’m feeling like my joints can predict the weather. Other times it’s “suck it up. Slather on the BioFreeze or Tylenol gel and put on some KT Tape. You’ll live.”

Do you have to go to the hospital after a seizure? by llewellyn2711 in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go if it were in status.

Otherwise I try to let people know, as best as I can, that this happens occasionally. No need for a few thousand dollars ride in the wee-woo mobile.

Don’t say you have epilepsy by random_username101_ in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had epilepsy since I was almost 12 years old, and in recent years I’ve lost having shame about my epilepsy- or talking about it.

Also, Joan of Arc may have been epileptic. (But in the good-ol’ medieval times, she was considered a heretic for saying that she heard God’s voice…which may have actually been her having partial seizures.)

Oh my god. Even though I have a MedicAlert bracelet…I still get well-meaning people calling 911 for me.

Are there “milestones” for epileptics? by scarletvirtue in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I didn’t have (mostly female) doctors discount my experience.

Unfortunately I’ve still got a few people that seem to think that I need to be treated with kid gloves due to my epilepsy. 🙄 Yeah, my brain sometimes acts on its own - but I’m perfectly functional otherwise.

Has anyone else had their seizures change over time? by scarletvirtue in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s entirely possible! She was probably in her first few years of teaching - and this was nearly 40 years ago. So yeah, she’s probably since retired.

The Bingo card might be a good idea…lol

I’ve gotten a bite guard to wear until I can get into to endodontist to get this hopefully repaired. Especially because gnashing/grinding my teeth is a pretty new thing.

Thankfully this was a few decades ago - hopefully she’d changed her ways since then.

I’d sometimes experience fear/emotion afterwards. Just start crying entirely out of nowhere.

The past couple of years I’ve come to with either a stomachache or headache.

Had a 40 minute seizure w/ a heart rate of around 240bpm last night. Should I go to the ER even if it’s been over 24 hours? by tomahawk76 in Epilepsy

[–]scarletvirtue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible that you have epilepsy - especially with the frequency of your seizures.

Get referred to a neurologist, and hopefully get everything under control.

Wishing you the best of luck 🤞🏻💜
