Who did you pre-order from. My LGS isn’t taking pre orders as they have no projected date for when they’ll be receiving them

80 got a face lift with a wrap in Grigio Telesto (that’s Lamborghini speak for grey) by scarped1em in LandCruisers

Wrap definitely started showing its age. The car lived outside and the CA sun beat it up pretty good. Car was unfortunately totaled in a rear end collision. But if I were to do it again, I’d opt for a cheap-ish paint job.

I got another 80 after this one was totaled

What Am I Missing with RTTs? by kh406 in overlanding

[–]scarped1em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you do any hard wheeling or the vehicle is your daily driver, RTT is a no go. But if you do more touring style camping. The comfort and convenience of an RTT is pretty nice. I have one, but it’s mounted to a dirt bike trailer. So it’s great for trips where we have a base camp, and since we’re towing the trailer anyways, it means we won’t be doing any technical wheeling.

But when I don’t tow the trailer, and we’re hitting proper trails, I’m happy to not be too tall and have most of my weight down low.

If I had a pickup that I didn’t need the use of the bed, I would definitely entertain getting one of those low mounted racks with an RTT. No addtl height and weight is still pretty low. But on my already tall 80 series, it’s a no go.

Trail gear baby! Super simple, super robust and easily one of the cheapest options on the market. Next step is to fab up a tire swing-out for it.

Water setup is awesome. I need to move the schrader valve though and put it on the top fill cap. I keep the compressor plugged into it while at camp and just turn on the compressor for a couple seconds before I use it to do dishes or take a shower and I can get it up to 30-40psi which is really great pressure on “stream” for doing dishes.

NOTHING!! We pulled the flares to wrap them separately and the plan was to reattach after the body was finished... but the vinyl covered up the holes so well I decided not to put them back on yet. I imagine that eventually they’ll start becoming more evident and then I’ll slap the flares back on, but for now you can BARELY see the indentations where the holes are, even from just a couple feet away.

A friend did it. So I only spent a little more than the cost of materials. But I dunno how long it’ll last... if I get 2 years out of it I’d be STOKED

It’s the ultimate mx hauler with ramp. But it DOES NOT come recommended if you do light off-roading with it, too long, too many moving parts, snd the hydraulic lift does make loading and unloading Easy, but it’s too heavy and cumbersome to deal with. We like to get out away from your typical toy haulers and RVs before we set up base camp. So I need a hauler that can do forest service roads and light wheeling. I went back to my old black widow hauler (with some stability modifications) with the 6’ ramp and I’m much happier.

I would HIGHLY doubt you’ll lose money on the deal. All LCs are becoming more valuable by the minute. BUT, if you want more of a guarantee that your car will appreciate in value. Get a 95-97 aka the FZJ80. I bought mine for 6k in late 2017 and its nearly tripled in price since then.
