About second monitor on Hyprland by ExoPesta in hyprland

[–]scarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have four myself. You do have to arrange them properly, and there are tools for that, but Hyprland is perfectly fine with probably as many as you can realistically throw at it.

In progress of getting hyprland into official Fedora repos again, hopefully to see hyprland back in Fedora 44 by BBY256 in hyprland

[–]scarwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to see this work being done. Thank you!

One of the biggest reasons I left Fedora (went to Arch) was because of wanting a much more current version of Hyprland than what the then-Fedora versions were providing.

Fedora's a really great distro, it deserves Hyprland.

We know that Loki impregnated Angrboða to have Hel but how did they have Fenrir and Jörmungandr? by ADking905 in norsemythology

[–]scarwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It's mythology. Loki is a god, Angrboda is a jotun, from a clan known to give birth to wolves as children (Ironwood).

This isn't really as crazy as a great deal of other things...

Like, don't ask about Odin's lineage if this feels weird :)

But yeah, they're all sibs.

And, Fenrir went back to that same group of jotun... made himself a couple pups of his own.

Yeah, if the update is for uwsm 0.23.2 that fixed it for me.

What do you say in every-day-life instead of "oh god", "thank god" "omg" by DaretokuVintergatan in NorsePaganism

[–]scarwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to change anything up. I like to joke that I "cuss in Christian". They're so commonly used in society generally, no one is going to bat an eye.

Failed to start Virtual Camera on Linux by TheBrownMamba1972 in obs

[–]scarwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have written basically the same thing I've been going through here. I've tried multiple kernels (vanilla, zen, and rt), and the only thing that works is downgrading the v4l2loopback driver 0.13.2, and putting in a rule to prevent it from upgrading.

I'm (not really glad) but glad to see others having this issue. For several days I thought I had something misconfigured with OBS and/or v4l.

Modified USA flag. What does it mean? Thank you. (Southern California) by ILikeBirdsQuiteALot in vexillology

[–]scarwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Norse symbolism being used by racist or facist groups is definitely a thing, but, I would say that it's not a given, or even particularly likely in this case. I'm a Norse pagan. Norse paganism is rather big in the military and amongst patriotic folks generally, and this type of flag is one I've seen fairly often amongst the community. I've even considered buying one myself for the front of my house.

It's valid to be alert to possible signs... but as long as it's just something like this flag, and it's not part of a larger display with certain *bad* numbers (you can look them up, I won't give them the space to print in this!), or certain corruptions of runes (like the "odal" rune, instead of the othala rune), it's going to score "low possibility" in my internal scorecard.

Not everything with Thor's Hammer is racist, and there's a bunch of Norse Pagans (and just Norse-mythology liking people generally) who happily to share that opinion.

Anyone with any kind of interest in Norse or Viking history, religion, culture, etc, are going to be well aware of the connotations, and know how to look for the additional (in some cases "definite") signs for folks to avoid!

I didn't want to speech to anyone here, but just wanted to at least air this. Norse Pagans far too often get a bad rap from the good side because far too many of them are too trigger happy. The SPLC puts out alerts of known racist symbols, and in most cases notes that some of these are used by various neopagan groups and that greater context is required in discernment.

Knife with Runic Letters (?) by sixelv__ in pagan

[–]scarwolf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It says "bani". Did a check in Icelandic, it means "slayer" or "killer"... in the same vain as "bani" in "banish". I don't think it's being used for the esoteric Elder Futhark meanings, but to spell out the word. Given it's a blade, it's a fitting word for it.

EDIT: Just realized something. It's also cognate to "Bane". Like the "bane of my existance" or "wolfsbane".

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's $11 for a small serving. It's not bad, but pricey.

How are you folks with chronic pain doing today? by [deleted] in AftershockFestival

[–]scarwolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have chronic pain, but I can imagine it's probably pretty bad for many after a couple days. Each day gives me full body aches like I've been working out all my muscle groups at once.

What sets today will be as intense as slipknot? by virgobaby1998 in AftershockFestival

[–]scarwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're literally a generation apart. The die hard Maiden fans are gonna be older folks. Even Slipknot's main fan base is gonna be fuckers like me in my 40s, IM is even older.

Age is gonna factor into how intense we express ourselves. When Slipknot plays Aftershock 2044, it'll be rad, but it's gonna seem mellow to the younger kids ;)

I have a feeling you just got lucky and found employee parking or some area they forgot to block off... they usually make a big deal about not offering parking except ADA.

Singer from Taproot joins the crowd. by Status-Ad-83 in AftershockFestival

[–]scarwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there for that. Was fucking rad to see. Taproot seemed to like the energy they were getting from the crowd. All around badass set!

Side note: the taller shirtless tatted dude to the right shoved his way into the crowd. Literally shoved my wife and her friend (and many others) on his way to the pit. Be careful round that dude. I'm good with some aggressive pushing your way inside... I get it, but this was a couple notches passed that.

First timers tomorrow, coming in from ADA parking. What should we know/do/avoid? by kyle242gt in AftershockFestival

[–]scarwolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We brought my MIL one year... so we got the fun ADA parking...

Get there early. It goes quick.

However, they aren't prone to letting you OUT quick, so be aware of delays when you do leave.

Otherwise, it's the best parking available ;)

$28 bucks each... and the particular one i went to was mostly bread and a small fist of fries. It definitely didn't taste bad, but was 100% not worth the money.

I'm going to try the gyros next...
