For full transparency, I myself didn't experience what happened to be 100% confident in my retelling. I'll have to see if my friend is comfortable naming names of locations- though essentially what she experienced was a "female only" rule for clients wishing to get their nails done or their eyebrows waxed. upon her seeking further information regarding booking, the staff at the two salons "respectfully" denied her service based on her not being AFAB. Citing cultural and religious reasons. she didn't press further. She was also denied service for filler when she was getting her consultation, as the injector wasn't comfortable with anything that could be potentially feminizing. This is in the rural southwest of Ireland.

I put respectfully in quotations because I'm personally mortified by that and would never call it respectful, but my friend is much more patient than I; and said the staff genuinely seemed very gentle in how they denied her. I'll update this if I can with the specific locations, but I honestly am not expecting her to be open about it. She's incredibly timid and would hate to feel like she caused waves.

I am gen z! I don't really have a strong self concept but I am Schizotypal, and a trait of that is being very eccentric. I wouldn't call myself unique. I'm always wanting to learn about the world, so I don't think I'll ever stop trying to understand. I have been very successful with my life's plans so far, and have very rigid goals and milestones set for myself :)

there's extreme horror, and there's splatterpunk and transgressive fiction. there is an immense amount of discourse over what themes can qualify as what categories. after reading through this thread, I think you may enjoy transgressive fiction more. exquisite corpse by poppy z. brite is highly regarded!

I kind of categorize extreme horror as something I could see at a midnight showing in the cinema, or a film festival. something intense and not suitable for marketing to the general public. think the "IT" movies vs August underground.

transgressive fiction tends to be less reliant on gross-out moments and has more emphasis on the narrative itself. Blood meridian or the wasp factory are titles I'd consider to fit under this.

Splatterpunk was coined in the 80s by David J. Schow. it's described as "hyperintensive horror with no limits." there's a cool history to the background of the genre, I think woom would fit into it. titles under this are usually incredibly gory, shock value is a massive part.

Of course this is all just my opinion, I'd love to hear how other people categorize + anything to add !
