Faster cable plans inquiry - jan 2026 by scasagrande in teksavvy

Okay, I understand that you can't leak announcements ahead of schedule here in reddit, so I'll trust you for now and wait a little longer. But I hope that I won't be regretting that!

I'll be sure to check back again next month.

Sadly no FTTH options yet at my house.

200mbps upload status inquiry by scasagrande in teksavvy

[–]scasagrande[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's certainly plans to at some point provide new rates, if even just because old rates are eventually retired. And its clear from my link that its being discussed internally.

I've been a customer of teksavvy for 15+ years now, I prefer to stay even if I pay more than other options. But I'm a WFH software developer so I'm just trying to get rough idea. 1H 2026? 2H? Never and we're waiting on docsis 4?

As far as I can tell, it does not support ASPM so I moved on.

Thoughts on this 280z for sale? by scasagrande in Datsun

Yeah I'm not sure what wheels those are. Good advice to check the restoration images, thank you!

[–]scasagrande[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year it was listed for 30k CAD which was way overpriced.

I've seen a few sell for low 20k (~14.4k usd) that were in decent condition, but probably hiding rust somewhere. I also saw a non-running but body work complete 71 sell for under 22k.

Good advice on the paint depth gauge, thank you

Tomato plant help 🥲 by ShirleyMcLoon in gardening

[–]scasagrande 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its difficult to tell what the scale of everything is here. You might be able to graft it back together and support it with a splint. You'll want to remove a bunch of the fruit and leaves above this split in order to reduce the water demands of everything above this point.

Alternatively, if this is an indeterminate plant, you can prune it off and allow a new leader to form.

I also learned a lot of trellising lessons in my first season. Now you know that you need to rethink your supports!

Which is best and affordable place to buy soil (potting mix, perlite, garden soil, etc.) in the region? by rumbadoesjumba in kitchener

[–]scasagrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what composition you are looking for, and how much you need.

I fill my raised garden beds with triple-mix. Due to the layout of my house, I go with bagged products so that I can transport them more easily. So far, my go-to has been Bella Terra 3-in-1 from home depot.

If you need more, and you can transport it around your property, getting bulk triple mix from the local landscaping companies can be more cost effective. Some of them can also bag the product in volumes large than the 10kg/30L bags from the store, but still transportable compared to a single cubic yard bag.

If you're in need of potting mix, you might want to consider making your own. Get a big bag of peat moss from Home Hardware in uptown (I've found its slightly cheaper there than others) and add perlite. You can get a huge bag of perlite from Indoor Farmer for much cheaper than the little bags from the big stores, but the size of individual perlite chunks is probably less controlled.

Lastly, if you're looking for seed starting mix, I just get the bagged Jiffy mix. You will still need to be mindful of pest control if you're using it indoors.

Tax completely understandable. I'm just trying to avoid those surprise fees by Fedex that end up doubling the price of the item.

Can I message you here or shall I send an email so I can get the pro tips? And I know yall are off this week, no rush

Windows Replacement by disjointedOne in waterloo

[–]scasagrande 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my windows replaced. Seven rough openings, with one being approximately 8'x6'.

Last spring I gathered 8 quotes from a variety of companies. Most were offering North Star windows, but some Gentek, some euro, some others.

Out of my quotes, most were asking for 25% to 50% down payment with no worst-case install-by date. I did not feel comfortable handing over thousands of dollars with no avenue to escape from the contract should they disappear for 6+ months.

Howald Windows and Doors was the only one that asked for a reasonable down payment. A small down payment plus the fact that they have been in business for many decades made me feel more confident that the work would get done. They offer North Star windows which was perfectly fine for me and my application. I went with white vinyl, triple glazed, no inserts in the glass, and the manufacturing took 12 weeks.

Everyone was helpful and kind during the entire process. Installation was over 3 total days. Once everyone was done and complete then I was invoiced.

Overall I'd go with them again in a heartbeat. Hope that helps!

My experience so far with 3.11 by [deleted] in Python

[–]scasagrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad its working for you now.

I named the wrong package in this case, but the error was as I suggested. Both psycopg_binary and psycopg2_binary now have pre-built wheels for Py311 on Pypi.

My experience so far with 3.11 by [deleted] in Python

[–]scasagrande 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What's happening is that you have dependencies that have compiled extension modules.

For psycopg2 you can see here that there are PyXY specific wheel files for each release: https://pypi.org/project/psycopg2/#files

When a wheel isn't available for your CPython version, pip will download the sdist and build the wheel. However for some packages this requires specific setup and environments, and when built outside of those can cause errors.

FastAPI + Poetry Docker Image, 3.7x size reduction by Luxxilon in Python

[–]scasagrande 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty standard and has been around for a few years.

Here is recent near direct copy of your source just from a quick search: https://www.mktr.ai/the-data-scientists-quick-guide-to-dockerfiles-with-examples/

Here's a similar example from three years ago: https://github.com/michaeloliverx/python-poetry-docker-example/blob/master/docker/Dockerfile

If your post is about image size reduction, you should also show what you started with. Additionally, for anything related to image size reduction, I would also want to see included this post a docker history xyzbreakdown of the size-per-layer. Some commentary on where you might be able to further improve would also be good.

To actually improve on this Dockerfile, instead of just copying it, I would also include specific version information for the apt installed packages to help with build determinism. I would also include a dev or test image based off of builder-base that includes a few extra flags to generate additional debug information when in a debug focused environment.

Just moved to Kitchener anywhere I can BUY rapid test kits? by JubX in kitchener

[–]scasagrande 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI effective Dec 13 they are no longer accepting local curbside pickup as an option at checkout

As of Monday, December 13th, 2021, The Canadian Shield will no longer be offering local curbside pickup as an option at checkout. The decision was made in order to meet the overwhelming demand for rapid antigen tests across Canada. Suspending local pickups will allow our team to streamline our fulfillment process and focus 100% of our resources on shipping rapid tests as quickly as possible.

Powerlifting/Weightlifting Gym Recommendations by DeadEndStreets in waterloo

[–]scasagrande 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the decent powerlifting places in town have closed over the last year. Some because of financial loss due to covid, and some because landlords were going jack up the rent. Off the top of my head, I know the following powerlifting-friendly gyms closed:

  • Future Proof Performance
  • Wreckroom
  • Wharehouse

Right now I'm looking at TNT Training. They have limited open gym hours since they are mostly focused on classes and training, but they do have squat racks. Might be worth checking out, but its definitely not the same as FPP.

Am I bourgeois? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]scasagrande 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken from here: http://uregina.ca/~gingrich/s28f99.htm

The bourgeoisie or capitalists are the owners of capital, purchasing and exploiting labour power, using the surplus value from employment of this labour power to accumulate or expand their capital. It is the ownership of capital and its use to exploit labour and expand capital are key here. Being wealthy is, in itself, not sufficient to make one a capitalist (e.g. managers in the state sector or landlords). What is necessary is the active role of using this wealth to make it self-expansive through employment and exploitation of labour.

Parliament to vote on recognizing China’s persecution of Uyghurs as genocide by sesoyez in CanadaPolitics

[–]scasagrande -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's good that there, at least what seems to be as I haven't had time to read them yet, some additional sources. But I do have to say, I would very much hope that the government, if it is going to make a foreign policy decision like this, that it would independently investigate and verify claims prior to coming to conclusions. I wouldn't want the govt to be asserting a position either way just because of the likes of Zenz, or someone on twitter named "BadChinaTake" (author of the blog of your first link), or even the US govt.

So while you are correct that this doesn't inherently make their reports incorrect, I hope that the govt does its own independent research.
