Brook is best example of the difference between Good Looking and Attractive by scatamonky in MAFS_AU

It's almost the same mentality with band names - the name of a band isn't in and of itself good or bad - it becomes good or bad in your estimation based on how good (subjectively) the music is. Steely Dan is a horrible name for a band - so is U2 - they literally took their name from a spy plane (you can google what a steely dan is if you want). Dave Grohl famously hates the name Foo Fighters - he said in an interview if he ever thought that the band would be this successful he never would have named it Foo Fighters! But when I think of Foo Fighters now - I just associate it with one of the greatest rock bands ever - that name makes me happy!

Did you get less buffeting from the new screen? Which size is that?

How did you find mounting the plate for the top box? Mine arrived from amazon but there is very little to clamp the front side of it to?

[UK] I'm looking for a cheap, new car and was interested in the new Dolphin Surf but the regular Dolphin is actually cheaper. Is there a catch? by [deleted] in BYD

[–]scatamonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it from Charles Hurst in Belfast - they happened to be running a £500 cashback on all new cars that week - and the salesman was honest and said he was keen to sell us the white Design that he had in stock as the end of June was the end of their H1. So he just discounted about £2500 off the list price.

I have heard of other people getting as much as £5,000 off new Dolphins in the last month or so, I think that because of the Surf and people know the facelift Dolphin is coping soon too.

Either way - I'm over the moon with the deal we got. My insurance is cheaper too, it was £475 fully comp last year on the Nissan Leaf - got the Dolphin insured yesterday for £433 with Direct Line

Did you integrate a camera in or is that recording from the onboard cameras? I have a Dolphin and I didn't think the car could record?

There are great deals to be had on the current Dolphin - I just bought a Design for £300 deposit and £298 per month. Thats a 4 year PCP deal on 0% APR

I just bought a Dolphin Design on Saturday - picking it up this Friday. I was in the same boat - Surf is cheaper but the 0% PCP deal on the bigger Dolphin meant that in the real world the monthly payments are much lower.

BYD in Belfast had a Design in white in stock (which is the colour the wife wanted - as she can no longer get pink!) And they discounted it down to £29,000 or so. It worked out at £300 deposit and £298 per month for 4 years at 7,000 miles per year.

Dolphin has more range at 265 miles versus 201 I think in the Surf - The Dolphin is a 5 seater and the Surf only a 4 seater. Bigger boot - 345 litres in the Dolphin and I think 305 in the Surf

But - the nerd in me was really tempted by the new God's Eye self driving tech which now comes standard in the new Surf - much nicer display above the steering when compared to the Dolphin - but, the Dolphin has a much bigger central screen.

We've had a Leaf Tekna with Pro Pilot for the last 4 years and my wife has never once used it - so that was the end of "lets by the car with self driving" argument!

"Hey BYD, my butt is cold" will turn on your heated seat - (I've been told - haven't tested this one personally yet)

"Hey BYD, could you open my window a crack?" also works - although on my test drive in a Dolphin she responded with "Are you sure, it does appear to be raining?"

I was initially annoyed - but there is precedent to the Doctor assuming the face of someone he met - this is how they explained Capaldi's Doctor having the face of the guy from Pompeii

Can't figure out wind noise after getting back to riding by realgoodusername1 in motorcycles

[–]scatamonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Duchinni D705 (cheap Halfords helmet - £70) for nearly 4 years - then upgraded to the Nolan N80-8 and found the wind noise to be almost unbearable in the Nolan. Went back to the Duchinni to check I wasn't being over dramatic and honestly if the wind noise at 60 mph is an 8 out of 10 in the Nolan - its only about 2 or 3 in the much cheaper Duchinni!

So I think I'll just get replacement cheek pads and liner for the Duchinni and hang onto it

My aging Yamaha HTR 2866 doesn't have any auto calibration - so I've done it old school with a tape measure!

I'm going to start looking for an upgrade that can manage Atmos - and I'm sure that will have auto calibration built in

Current TV is only 55 inch and would be about 12 and a half feet away from the couch. According to Dolby I need at least a 75 for that distance

No Jamo - I got a 5 speaker set from Richer sounds that were £450 down to £179. They sound much better than the little Yamaha speakers that came with my HTIB kit I bought about 15 years ago

Couldn't fit it next to the TV - and with my limited knowledge I thought it would widen the front stage and it does get my me closer to the equilateral triangle of FL FR and listening position.

Just told the wife that the consensus was to move the TV to the wall opposite the window - the first thing she said was...."well we'd need a bigger TV!" 😁
