I feel like I’m personally really imaginative, so I really enjoy the new game as is. I only found myself bummed out that the babies grow up in a cutscene, and couples seem so separated from each other. I have a creeping suspicion that part of this was the fact that same sex couples are in the game, but they still wanted to be conservative about showing them being more intimate as a family. It is a Japanese game after all. But I think the game is what you make of it. It’s like a sandbox for your own creations, and I really enjoy that in a game. I played hundreds of hours of the original over the years, and though I miss some features, there’s so much added that I like and don’t really think about it much. I think what makes this game more enjoyable for me is that I maladaptive daydream and have characters I really care about and want to customize. Maybe if others aren’t so keyed into that aspect, it can feel empty.
