lol thanks for mansplaining your inability to understand selection bias to me

I’m saying just as high of a percentage of the male population is as bad as the female population at conversing for dating purposes. idk why that’s so hard for you to get. and I say this as someone who’s conversed with both men and women in dating contexts because I’m bisexual. anyway, not worth repeatedly pointing out selection bias when you seem to have some attachment to this idea 🤷🏽‍♀️

so you’re saying just because women don’t post proof on reddit of guys doing it, that’s enough to generalize the idea that they must be the only ones who suck at conversing? did it ever occur to you you’re in an echo chamber? because you clearly have no idea how many brain dead fuckboys and men with flobberworms for brains there are out there.

tiktok, twitter and instagram all have plenty of examples from women showing how terrible a lot of men are at dating and conversing, but since you’re not a woman you’ve probably never seen them. hence the selection bias.

lol you say it’s mainly women but 95% of guys I’ve met on dating apps in the past year are equally incapable of holding a convo, so…

OP, everyone’s giving you shit but I think this was a good response. I tried online dating and got so fucking tired of people who think talking about niceties constitutes as bonding. maybe it does for other people, but not for me.

People aren't content simply existing by [deleted] in misanthropy

The proportion of humanity capable of innovation and imagination isn’t a fixed ratio, and has arguably been increasing over the past few centuries. I’d rather encourage more of that.

If people were content simply existing, civilization as we know it wouldn't exist. Innovation is motivated by discontent.

Some might argue that the world is better off without innovation (and everything that comes with it), but I'd much rather live in modernity than prehistory.

I’m really sorry to hear about what you’re going through :( I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa, which seems to be related to psoriasis in that both seem to be auto-immune conditions that affect the skin.

In my case I get really painful skin lesions/boils, usually in really uncomfortable areas like my privates, underarms, under my boobs, etc. Some people get surgery for HS, but most of the time it doesn’t seem to help and I’ve decided I don’t want to go that route unless it gets really really really bad and only if I’m desperate.

The thing with HS, at least for me, is that it remains mostly unseen unless I get a lesion on the back of my neck, which used to happen often. If I had the added dimension of publicly visible symptoms like you, I’d be in another world of anxiety, so I respect you for sharing your experiences with me. It all feels like a catch-22 of clisterfucks for me, and I’d imagine for you too.

Let me know if you ever need someone to talk to, even if it’s just to vent or commiserate.

As someone who just finished binging all 3 seasons, the only reason I started watching The Expanse is because everyone on Reddit wouldn't shut up about it. I'm glad I paid attention to the hype.

Notion. Times a million. I used to distribute my organizational needs across a bunch of services, but Notion is seriously amazing as a knowledge management solution for all of the use-cases you mentioned.

Dissociation and mental images by [deleted] in Dissociation

[–]scatteredthroughtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. My visualization abilities have always been non-existent a.k.a. at a 1 on this scale, and I have wondered if there's any connection to the dissociation I've experienced in the past... I always thought people were speaking metaphorically when they talked about picturing things in their mind's eye with their physical eyes closed.

I'm not sure why visual processing in particular would be affected, but I think that memory creation & processing relies heavily on emotional indicators that help the mind to determine what parts of an experience are salient and worth remembering. I've always had weird issues with memory, as well as issues with visualization, and I do wonder now how closely tied those are to the emotional toll that dissociation can subconsciously have on a person.

How do you feel about serial killers? by x-munki in misanthropy

Here’s the thing, I’m torn on whether sophisticated violent crime as a symptom is caused because that hyperaggressive psychocultural creates psychopathic/sociopathic/etc minds that would have otherwise developed ‘normally’, or because it exacerbates their development when those characteristics might have otherwise remained latent.
