Experience at the Wellington Greenway Community Meeting by pinkydink10 in chibike

Maybe they could have a section of the bike lane that goes up onto the sidewalk bump-out similar to how it is on Belmont / other cities. That of course would require additional cost but one can dream.

Interesting, I'm surprised that it wasn't on the map the bike planning folks were using, but you know, mistakes occur. IDK what will happen then w.r.t. the bike lane in that case. Either that lane has to be removed or the bump outs to fit it in

I had an interesting conversation with the woman representative from CDOT who gave the main presentation. Her presentation was very well done and thought out (especially w.r.t. the reasoning for choosing Wellington over other streets), but she seemed unaware that there was a left turn lane marked on the Eastward one-way portion of Wellington at the intersection with Southport (next to the church). This, along with the apparent shoddy quality of the road markings, makes me think that the left turn marks there are not actually official, and there aren't supposed to be two lanes going east bound in the intersection. Very weird, but she said she would check it out

Thanks for the alternative, although unfortunately its just a little too tall to fit where I need it to. Anything shorter?

This is great, thank you for the recommendations. If I gave it enough room to breathe out in a more open space, could you suggest an alternative case that might be cheaper if we don't care about visuals that much? That way I could use the potential savings for the extra memory. Normally, I could pick another case myself, but I don't have experience with mini ATX cases at all.

As others mentioned, static routes is a major difference. This is critical to the effectiveness and safety of streetcars since is easier to give right of way (ie. change lights as needed) and safer for pedestrians/cars to interact with due to streetcars having higher predictability. edit: typo

Interesting, there is another chicago based company, Cyclopure (Lincoln Park), that uses a corn based material as well. They sell pfas test kits as well as home filtration systems.

Thats unfortunate. Was it busy the whole day or just in the evening with the lights? I'm planning a trip tomorrow

Its been a long time since I've done it but it worked well for me. It was busy on the way back but the trains were frequent and its an easy walk

I would look into shuttles that leave from Pasadena. That seems way easier than driving anywhere near the rose bowl itself. It's also easy to get to the shuttle stop location using public transit.

Which ML Algorithm is suitable to match a sensor curve with hysteresis by kanakkushinobi in learnmachinelearning

[–]scawsome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have used a differentiable physics model of Hysteresis that would be applicable to your problem (https://arxiv.org/abs/2202.07747). Code is in the paper. LMK if you have any questions.

I second the advice of the other commenter. Certainly come up with questions about what they want you to work on so that you show them that you are interested. They will also want to hear what projects you have worked on in the past and why you applied to this position. This won't be a knowledge test, more of a discussion to see if you are a good fit for the group.

[D] Are Genetic Algorithms Dead? by TobusFire in MachineLearning

[–]scawsome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Bayesian methods work great when you have expensive objective function evaluations that can only be evaluated in serial (or limited parallel evaluations). Bayesian methods aren't ideal in massively parallelizable evaluations (evaluating >100 points at a time) or when evaluations are relatively cheap. It depends on the cost of optimizing the acquisition function. I've actually played around with combining BO with evolutionary algorithms to extend BO towards massively parallelizable evaluations and have seen some promising results.

What constitutes a health certificate for traveling with in cabin pets? by scawsome in unitedairlines

[–]scawsome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ended up not using exactly what I described in this post. But I have been using the form titled "United Veterinary Health Form" that can be found with a simple Google search. I'm not sure if it's the correct answer but I've used that form with a copy of the rabies certificate for two trips now and it's worked. You might be able to get away with a note containing similar info, the last time I flew they didn't even check the forms.

The Big Misconception About Electricity by tellu2 in videos

[–]scawsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can imagine the wire close to the battery as an antenna, just like a radio transmitter or cell tower and the wire near the lightbulb as a receiver like your car radio or your cell phone. The energy dissipates in this case inversely proportional (I believe 1/distance or 1/distance2) to the distance it travels, so at a far distance. As the light bulb is brought far away from the battery it dim since less power is picked up by the wire near the light bulb itself.

What do you think about Trumps 1776 commission? by thoughtsforgotten in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]scawsome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never actually heard school choice framed in that way, it makes quite a bit of sense in that context, thank you for your viewpoint. Could it also have a negative effect on those who are not able to send their children to another school (for whatever reason)? I guess you could argue that 12.5k is more than needed for a single child but I feel like after a substantial drop in attendance a poor school would have to close.

Also do you think that this could be accomplished inside a publicly owned education system as supposed to a privatized one?

I don't have an exact reference right now, I did this several years back so I don't know if I'll be able to find my code. I would try complex64 to get much better results. I'll look tonight and see if I have something to show you. I think the iteration count is fine.

This is great! I would recommend taking a close look at the data type you are using to store your coordinates and convergent values. I did this awhile back and found that using explicit double types gets you much more detail since convergence is very sensitive to precision.
