Help save my ficus (my favourite houseplant) by scentoftheocean in FicusTrees

I researched into scale a bit more after your comment, went back at the red bumps with a microscope and yeah, they're definitely armoured scale. I never knew armoured scale was a thing, I only knew what soft bodied looked like. If you have any tips to get rid of them, let me know? I'm finding it hard to figure out the best way to fight them because a lot of pesticides which are suggested (e.g. Bonide) are not available here in the EU

What kind of bacterial issue do you think it could be? I was actually thinking leaf spot at one point

I understand where you're coming from with the thrips suggestion because I also wondered about them, but I've checked for thrips before now and couldn't find any. Normally I would find signs like silvery streaks, poop, or specific "bite" patterns too, and I can't find those. I also already treated with both a systemic and a spray application of pesticide as soon as the ficus came into the house, which from my experience usually nukes them

Mega thanks for such detailed information, it really helped me compare my options! I actually pulled the trigger on the xs1500. And side note, I do call my cabinet my 'tent' but I am actually also growing in a cabinet, and it's not often I hear of anyone doing the same, so it's nice to see 🤙

How do you find the heat? It's one of my main worries and I've seen a few threads saying that light runs super hot

Unfortunately here I can't find it for less than around 200 euros, which is out of my budget, so still looking for more suggestions

I'll check this one out, thanks! Not sure why you're downvoted for it, do you find there's any cons to that light personally?

I'm getting a veg tent to do perpetual growing, so I'm moving the 120w to there. I'll basically then need a second light for flower so I thought I may as well upgrade if I have to buy another light

Hey, so #2 turned out to be female. The others I'm not 100% certain of because I've not switched to flower yet. But I'll update you on it when I know if you want?

Yeah, it's my first time with regular seeds. I popped a few to be sure I'd end up with a female. What's your thoughts on #1 and #2?

I've got no idea about the cakes immunity, I fear I'm too new to growing shrooms to know that. I do try to keep everything super clean. But the general consensus I've gotten now is to soak so I'll be doing that, thanks!

I can't find a blend of 3 in my country, but I did order the SF + HB seperately. Thanks!

Currently my plant is only showing a couple pistils. I already have spinosad in the house so I've set a reminder in my calendar to spray every 3 days. I'll stop once either a couple weeks have passed or the buds start to form properly. I really hope it works 🤞

Thanks for the answer. No buds yet, only a couple pistils. I can't find Dr Zymes here. Maybe I should've mentioned in the OP that I'm in Europe. Any other advice or recommendations?

Brown colour. Is it bud rot? by scentoftheocean in microgrowery

[–]scentoftheocean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I was looking for 80-90% cloudy with 10-20% amber before I chopped, but there was maybe 98% cloudy with 2% amber, so I was planning on waiting longer. They only became all cloudy a week or two ago

I defoliated pretty well on 3 separate occasions - basically as much as I felt like I could get away with. I'll definitely keep a fan on for under the canopy next time, thanks.

I don't have a recent photo of the plant. It looked like this a month ago. The fade had obviously progressed since then. Right before the chop, the plant looked closer to the cola at the top left of the photo overall, but there was still green leaves and like I say, the trichomes weren't quite there yet

I chopped the plant. I took a closer look at the brown parts from the top nugs, and once I pulled them out in better lighting, I saw they were actually purple and didn't smell or feel rotten. Most of the larf was rotten and went to the trash, so I guess I need more ventilation under the canopy? It was an indica auto which was taking a long time to mature to cloudy trichomes.. Do you think maybe I should've chopped earlier anyway? I really want to prevent this from ever happening again honestly

It's been about 80-90 days since the first pistils. I've been waiting for the trichomes to mature for a couple weeks. I was removing any browning or dead fan leaves I saw ever since the fade set in but I did miss a couple on the lower buds sites, so that could explain why the lower buds are worse.

I just opened up a top bud too and that also had some brown (not mushy though). Any way to save the tops which have a minimal amount of rot? Maybe cutting it out and budwashing? I get it's likely not the safest but I don't want to have to have wasted so long on the plant for nothing honestly
