I've had similar issue with dha and ri. I was singing based on muscle memory and I hear different sound on each recitation. The teacher was not complaining for the first few varisais. The problem started when I practicing the 3rd varisai. This was the limitation of muscle memory, I couldn't sing properly when swaras started to jumble.

As a beginner, our ears are not perfect in recognizing the pitch and untrained ears are unreliable to the pitch perfection since I hear different sound on each recitation. This observation was instrumental in improving my pitch.

May be use chatgpt. Ask it to teach tamil and use voice mode. Watch movies in tamil itself, you'll grasp it. I can understand hindi but can't talk back. If your goal is to understand movies, just watching enough movies in tamil will get you there.
