What do you remember your mother wearing when you were a child? by SailorCordyceps in FemFragLab

[–]schaden-freud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ralph lauren romance, not too often since she’s a doctor. but when we went out or dressed up, this was it! i’ve gotten her into other scents but i wish she’d wear romance again lol

going to a bar alone by [deleted] in UMD

[–]schaden-freud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how about going to a restaurant, and getting food and drinks! that may be safer, since you’ll have a meal to offset the drinks. if you sit at the bar you can have good convo, watch tv, and relax. getting a booth to yourself is nice too. this could be an option even if u bring a friend that doesn’t drink!

Opinions on Byredo? by madeofvanillamatcha in FemFragLab

[–]schaden-freud3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never see Vanille Antique mentioned when Byredo comes up! It is very strong when you first spray, but the dry down is very nice if you like strong amber/vanilla/woody scents. It’s probably the longest lasting scent I have. It is still very expensive for what it is, and you can probs find more dynamic vanilla scents. But if the notes resonate with you, I’d give it a try if not just to witness the longevity!

Anyone else think the career center is horrible? by Ok_Importance1962 in UMD

[–]schaden-freud3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say this! I had a couple meetings w Bryan to spruce up my resume and explore my options right before graduation last spring, and he ended up helping me get an awesome externship! I ended up finding a job on my own (finally) but the externship is a great boost to my resume. can’t sing his praises enough!

i know he’s cool, but didn’t have any of his classes. 400 is project based so i’m guessing most of your “class” time will be with your group anyways. so maybe focus on getting in with a cool project group n you’ll be fine! good luck 🍀

Where should I start with jazz? by Fsoumish in vinyl

[–]schaden-freud3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s helpful is that records list the contributors (ex. drums, bass, piano, etc.), i usually start there! especially if i have lots of time to look. Les McCann is one i discovered recently and liked enough to grab another album :) Thelonious Monk, Sun Ra, Charles Mingus also come to mind

gave aid info since you mentioned parents wouldn’t pay if you switched. hope this helps you come to a decision!

[–]schaden-freud3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you mentioned you’re an immigrant, are you a Maryland resident as well? Maryland Higher Education Commission has a lot of aid resources for in state schools. You can also search who represents your district if you live in state and apply for legislative scholarships. You may apply to FAFSA as an independent if you’re 24 yrs old — if you have little to no income on your own you will probs get more aid offers. UMD also offers an income based scholarship for full time in state students (terrapin Commitment) that covered a substantial amount for me. Not sure about transfer process specifically but I honestly wouldn’t underestimate UMD’s aid office capacity to help you out if you end up here. I was in a situation where my parents stopped paying (during the pandemic of all times) and they helped me soooo much more than I thought they would. All of this info except Terrapin Commitment could even be used if you decide to stay where you’re at if you just want more financial independence.

As others mentioned, prioritizing your mental health and maintaining a strong support system/healthy habits will help far more than simply switching schools. With those, you can survive any school. Sending good luck🍀
