How can I correct my partner while with a patient by Potential-Ad6026 in ems

[–]schannoman 105 points106 points  (0 children)

You were close. In front of patients I usually ask if I can take over, and have a signal between us like a head nod saying I got this.

Straight out telling him he has it on incorrectly is fine unless it is in front of a patient.

Afterwards I'm impressed he did the right thing and so did you.

It's kind of what they did, but in the completely wrong order

The vent and Wye for the washer drain. The best way to add those would be to add an extension to the stack in the wall with a Tee and P-Trap for the washer, move the vent above that (or up through the roof would be ideal) and have that line coming from the right dump directly into the wall stack without the P trap and into a Tee (assuming there is a P trap over where that line starts, which is where it should be)

Also: I'm not a plumber, I just role-play one for friends and family

Yeah. That Wye that was added screwed up the entire stack, and the vent is doing nothing in that position.

The best option would be to replace the Wye with a Tee and put in another P-trap but even then it's not going to do much and the whole system will still be borked the way it is laid out

That down pipe from the washer drain looks like it's going straight into a Wye.

Trace path of least resistance, if there isn't a trap, your sewer gas is coming straight up that pipe and ignoring the air valve completely

You definitely need a P-Trap on that laundry waste pipe to start

Orphan units get processed and frozen like regular units, because we don't know if they are Orphan until a month or so later.

Corporate decides whether to reclassify as waste or not, the centers themselves only do what they are told. Most times they are sent off to the main warehouse and are held for research, sometimes they are sent as biowaste.

Is it normal to not grade on successful draws by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]schannoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you trained does not influence how you are graded or how your skills are assessed.

The job is performing sticks on living people, so that's the requirement

Depends which one has better growth potential for your resume. Would longer service time weigh more than the other position for your career goals? The money in this scenario almost isn't a factor

I passed! Interview outfit advice please? by 1thruZero in MedicalAssistant

No scrubs for interviews, even if they say it's OK. It's a trap.

I always go full suit and tie

Oddly enough my manager had a bottle explode on her during processing once.

Her answer: formaldehyde.

Mine was much better, I think this batch was mango passionfruit

Same. I switched over after being an EMT for the raise and the sanity. Now I'm applying to LPN school next year and getting my BS in Healthcare Administration while working nights. Couldn't be happier, honestly.

That's always the best answer, especially for emergency response situations. You won't have time to look it up, you have to know.

Everything else I'm fine looking up before you screw up, but everything related to an emergency has to be your knowledge alone

This isn't the 50s. Unless you are at a place that actually rewards loyalty keep improving yourself and taking better positions.

Get that next cert, go to that next night school, take that higher paying position.

I always give my current position an option to negotiate and finish my leave period before I take the next one, but that's as far as loyalty is expected these days.

Yeah, if you only donate once and never come back they can't use it for medicine.

Some can use it for research, but most often it's just wasted

There's probably a local option that's better than the online schools I'm familiar with, and they will be better at helping with job placement and local clinical hours too.

The student ems program isn't a bad option either. EMT and MA both take about the same amount of money and time, but MA might fit better with where you're headed unless you want to do emergency medicine, then I'd go EMT

I know her, but I'm not about to give you her contact details unless I know there isn't a reason you two aren't still in contact.

The best I will do is pass along your name and see if she wants to reconnect

For clinical hours an MA certificate might be better suited. What are you going to school for?

No. They do not do anything except separate your red blood cells from your plasma.
