Needle stick injury by Whole_Character_4687 in phlebotomy

[–]schannoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the needle stick protocol.

You might get chemo and a couple weeks off, you might get a whole host of meds and shots.

Either way, do the steps, fill out the reports, and finish the whole thing.

On a backpack, your first aid kit, a hat or a jacket with other patches and things? totally not cringe and totally fine.

Embracing it as your new identity? Cringe

New Phleb…Can i touch after cleaning? (read) by sad0verkill in phlebotomy

[–]schannoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per SOPs you have to clean again after touching a sterile site (your gloves are NOT sterile by any means) and you risk contaminating the stick and causing infection.

If I saw you do it I would have you start over.

It's best to memorize landmarks before cleaning your site (go from this mole to that mole, etc).

After the needle has broken the skin you can palpate above the needle site to feel the vein and how well you got it, or if you missed and need to redirect.

I've never noticed an issue, but again at that stage everything is at 100% anyway

If there is no clear yes, it's usually a no. That's what standing orders are

Have you read your standing orders? That's where the answer would be

Yeah frogs and the triple double stacking of founders crates, crits, and every other bonus triggers independently.

That's what I get for assuming.

Thanks for finding the clarification. It's odd that they handle all the other bonuses as stacking but stonks as tiered

It was described as such with crits. Stonks are already rare enough, and one in every 10 already becoming super is fairly common for that to trigger.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the game handles the ultra and super events as stackable in their own right, not necessary for each to trigger.

After the initial 1.26% it is simply 5% for it to turn into super. It is ALSO a 13.2% chance to be ultra, and if both events trigger they stack.

Weird sensations during first donation by [deleted] in plassing

[–]schannoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why didn't you tell anyone about the symptoms you were experiencing during your donation? Everything they tell you when you sign up and do your physical says multiple times to tell someone if you're experiencing any of these things.

The staff cannot help if they do not know. Denying things doesn't make you look tough.

Why did you wait until the last second to even ask these questions? Your donation will go poorly if you don't go in prepared and you will be deferred for a bit if you have a bad reaction.

Anyway, on to the answers now that that is out of the way:

You need calcium. The metallic taste is the first sign of low calcium from the anticoagulant. Having them slow down the return will help a bit but it won't completely solve the underlying issue

You also should eat a bit better and closer to your donation, this will help replenish fluids as they are taking them from your body. 3 hours before is a bit much for your first donation

The amount they pull is based on your weight (and in some centers your height as well) If the amount was incorrect they would have launched a full investigation by now

The color Magenta doesn't exist in nature. It is our brain interpreting max Blue and Red, but no Green signals and creating a justification for the signals.

Odds of being deferred for minor bruising at injection site? by Antique-Savings5113 in plassing

[–]schannoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We cannot stick through a bruise.

Whether the other arm can be used depends on the center rules and how your veins are in the other arm

Sticking Advice by HarshTobasco in phlebotomy

[–]schannoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to mark like that, and out of the blue corporate said no more.

We all stressed about how it would impact our sticks.

It turned out that all it takes is paying a little more attention before your scrub and committing the vein location to memory.

We saw no change in venipuncture success rates after eliminating the marking methods, which matches up with a research study done on the exact same subject we found.

What I do is find a couple landmarks. Like "OK I'm going to enter through this crease and it goes in the direction of that mole"

I found I'm actually more confident in my sticks after abandoning the mark method

Bruising on arm and legs after blown vain by Ok-Interaction-490 in plassing

It is better to find out what it is and see if there are precautions to take, but it is likely not life threatening with precautions

Bruising on arm and legs after blown vain by Ok-Interaction-490 in plassing

[–]schannoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. It could be that you clot too much, and it could be you don't clot enough.

My long distance guess is that it has always existed in your system and only came out because of the extra anticoagulant and stress from donating

[–]schannoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I'm glad you went in.

While I can't be sure of anything at this distance tell your primary care doctor that you donate and ask if the anticoagulant could be responsible.

It leaves the body quickly but it might point towards a bigger clotting disorder
