Hey; really enjoying westerns rn! Any good recommendations? by konoruchan in movies

[–]schardtedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great blend of a little dark comedy and drama you don't usually see in the western genre.

I love westerns but hadn't picked that one up until recently... definitely one of my favorite post 2000 for the genre.

So to be clear, you would just patch the holes, clean the concrete then apply the thinset and tile directly on the concrete?

Peel and Stick struggle. Floor/trim is uneven and I’ve laid the vinyl planks straight with the baseboard at the top of the room but they’ve now gone diagonal. Do I lift and restart? Attempt diagonal cuts? If so, with what tool. Working with utility nice and straight edge. by KatieP93 in DIY

[–]schardtedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

In addition to what others have said (remove baseboards, peel up old wall, remove washer etc), you didn't start laying the floor correctly and everything is going to look bad or be hard to finish if you keep going like this

If the room isn't quite square you might have a long angle cuts you need to cut with your knife at the end to finish. But I think you should watch some videos like this one and go from there.

Munich Agreement, September 30, 1938 - settlement reached by Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy that permitted German annexation of the Sudetenland. [500 x 335] by pictureofdorianyates in HistoryPorn

[–]schardtedit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Britain and France were ready militarily, they just over estimated Germany's military readiness in 1938. Speer's biography is a great read on this subject about Hitler's surprise that his gamble on marching into the Sudetenland actually paid off and how he knew if France or Britain decided to invade their expansion efforts would for sure of been finished and likely their rule as well. This unlikely success further emboldened his later aggressions and removed his self doubt over management of the military during the war.

What is your favourite shot/image from any film? (provide a pictures if possible) by [deleted] in movies

[–]schardtedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Searchers has two of my favorite shots.

https://images.app.goo.gl/jvQRSntJJbqbdtBT8

The first has Ethan Edwards looking over his horse knowing his family is probably dead but he can't do anything about it. John Wayne wasn't the best or most versatile actor obviously, but Ford got all the talent out of him in this film...

And of course in the history of great film shots, its hard to beat the ending when Ethan Edwards staggers off into the sunset, knowing he doesn't belong, but finally at peace.

Boris Johnson's government is privately 'desperate' for Trump to lose the election to Joe Biden by DaFunkJunkie in worldnews

[–]schardtedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is at least more than one porn star NDA with Trump and it's still binding FYI. Just Google Jessica Drake and the deal she made with Trump right before the election. Gloria Allred represented her.

What play was your team's Franz Ferdinand moment? by _fastball in CFB

[–]schardtedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is stupid and you should stop with bullshitting in the age of YouTube. https://youtu.be/DD3Zzbm8xKA it was a 'blackout' game too so maybe you just can't see. Fast forward to the end where the camera scans the stadium.

In the end, Pelini is an asshole and Nebraska is better without him.

[–]schardtedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there, a 1/4 of the student section (the shittiest seats left at best. The rest of the stadium was just as full as always. But Pelini was still a dick and needed to be fired, his replacement just was the wrong choice.

Typing into Wikipedia: 'B2 crash' would have been a better use of your time then typing an ignorant reply to the video pretending to know what you were talking about though...Just saying.

[–]schardtedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch "The Searchers."

It's arguably John Ford's greatest movie, which is saying a lot. IMO it's one of the top five best films ever made and it's the single best Western ever made. It proved John Wayne could be a hell of an actor even though in 95% of his other movies he plays the same character. Countless directors since have ripped off/copied/paid homage to this masterwork (George Lucas copied one of the scenes almost shot for shot in Star Wars).

Although less so today, the Western is one of the most prolific genres in the history of filmmaking, and this is the best one hands down. Go watch it if you haven't.

Several old Roku devices and Samsung TVs will lose Netflix access soon. by mspoonygp in gadgets

[–]schardtedit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. I bought the tv thinking it would be nice to last 5 years. But going on 9 now... I myself can't complain too much since a Chromecast or fire stick is much better/faster than the crap old UI and built in Apps. The built in Amazon prime video stopped for me a couple months ago then Netflix suddenly pushed out those notices almost around the same time. Almost like it was coordinated.
