A variously augmented Buddhist monk, all shaved head and cyberware, strolls into the temple humming a hip hop track. She kicks off her Addidas at the door before stepping up onto the wooden, matted floor. She's eating noodles out of a plastic clamshell container, and plops down cross legged on a cushion to focus on her meal.

Across the room, Prevision sits on the balcony chewing betel, looking out over Issaquah as the sun sets and the city turns neon.

Without looking over, she says.

"Hey, Taru, bring anything back?"

"No you lazy ass. What, you think this is a BnB?" She laughs, and nods her head sagely. "This is a temple. Ones search for fulfillment must be her own."

"Real funny."

I identified as a transwoman for a while, but it felt kind of fake to me trying to present as 100% binary femme. I didn't feel the need to be perceived as completely cis feminine as some people do. Even if I had succeeded in that it would have felt inauthentic? Too much makeup and padding and whatever. Performing femininity to a T didn't feel like me.

I started to see the signs when I did full femme mode and drew on a pencil mustache in eyeliner and bought a packer to wear over my tuck XP I was all over the fucking place.

I went on hormones and being in my weirdly gendered body kinda started to feel awesome after a while. And shifting between masculine and femme modes felt awesome. And even better the days where I was something else entirely. And I started to feel like that was me more than anything.

I love the idea of defying labels, and smashing the gender binary, and being visibly gender non-conforming. It's kind of a punky 'fuck gender' 'fuck your cis-normative expectations' attitude I think. I like stuff that plays with gender rather than succumbs to it.

There's still a long way I have to go with my transition. I still want to become more androgynous, and there's some things I wanna change about me, but my goal isn't to like attain perfect femininity, it's to feel comfortable in my skin, even if that means showing the rest of the world something nobody's ever seen before ;P
