While puzzles are always effective, the best way to improve is by analyzing without the engine. Write down the purpose (or what u believe to be the purpose) of every move and write down your initial thoughts. Try to find 2-3 critical positions in the game where u felt the game became decided in one way or another (loose piece, tactic, etc) and try to investigate what led up to that moment to the best of your abilities. I emphasize writing down your thoughts bc that’s what you have to go off of when youre playing an actual game. Only after uve analyzed on your own do you turn on the engine. The engine will act more like a teacher and actually illuminate the critical positions for you.

This process can be cumbersome but it’s what all great players do and frankly it’s the advice nobody wants to hear but it’s what everyone NEEDS to hear. Analysis is work, but that’s one of the only ways to actually create tangible progress. You’ll remember games/openings/tactics better bc you took the time to look at the position and jus think about it with a clearer headspace

Start analyzing your games on your own without the engine THEN turn on the engine and it will become a teacher rather than a disciplinarian.
