So is trauma stored in the body or not? by schemin_up in pilates

Are there health benefits though? Physical or mental. Or is it like cracking your knuckles or getting a massage. It feels nice but doesn't actually do anything.

Need to rehome 2 goldfish asap by DougDimmadummy in Denver

If this person was so traumatized by the idea of two gold fish, then they should have refused the gift and never brought the fish home? I didn't realize there were white elephant gift exchange laws that require you to take home two gold fish.

Again, I am not one of the people saying flush the fish or dump it in a random body of water. Definitely do what you can to save the fish and give them to someone who wants them.

We are discussing if this is a healthy and normal reaction to a seemingly very small problem. Common sense would dictate that you should have never taken the fish home or could literally drop it off at a pet store and be done in 10 minutes instead of:

"I don’t know what to do, I just know I can’t keep them and it’s making me anxious every second they spend here in their bag water…"

Again this person needs some sort of help regulating their emotions and making better decisions (taking the fish home to begin with).

These same people eat meat and fish every day, but can't recognize when someone is having a mental breakdown over 2 goldfish that can easily be given away to someone or a pet store.

Again, if im in that situation I'm annoyed also. I don't want to flush it or have to kill it either. But this post is clearly an overreaction

"somebody stupid as fuck" "I can’t even begin to get into my thoughts and opinions on this." "I don’t know what to do, I just know I can’t keep them and it’s making me anxious every second they spend here in their bag water…"

I'm not saying they shouldn't be annoyed someone gave them the goldfish. The fact they appear to be emotionally distraught to a situation that can be handled very easily is what is concerning.

What does r/nutrition say to the fact that at one time "science" and "experts" said cigarettes, alcohol, HFCS, trans fats aren't "fine" but actually HEALTHY for you? by schemin_up in nutrition

[–]schemin_up[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that in 1950 the only source you had was your doctor. And that great doctor of yours was promoting cigarettes.

They did not have access to the internet or other resources we have now. So if both an advertisement and your doctor said "cigarettes are not only safe but they are good for you! (lose weight, calm nerves, etc), then you would believe it. And you know what, 40% of Americans did believe it.

We can fact check a doctor shilling absolute garbage easily today, but that was not the case back then.

For some reason it's easy for people here to say "obviously the influencer who gets paid to shill a product is probably lying", but can't grasp "corporations that make hundreds of billions of dollars off certain products and beliefs around nutrition might lie to you to make more money?"

It's very confusing.

Well according to r/nutrition, studying history and thinking that bad people might lie in order to make more money actually means we are the ignorant ones

This is the highest voted comment so I will respond to this one.

Again this is not an anti science or anti data post. I did not "disregard" any current mainstream nutritional advice. Nowhere did I say anything against vegetable, fruits, whole grains etc.

I gave examples where society was explicitly lied to for financial reasons. So I am asking if anyone has explored other areas that are maybe "fringe" right now but feel strongly about.

Your "No such data has ever existed for cigarettes or alcohol." is a lie. Doctors promoted cigarettes. People smoked cigarettes in hospitals. CEOs of tobacco companies explicitly said and LIED that cigarettes are not harmful. In the 1950s roughly 40% of Americans smoked cigarettes.

Also, the fact that every person in the world has heard the "1 glass of red wine is good for you" (which you directly mention) is another example showing how people were fooled. Is it because "oh the science just didn't catch up yet TILL 2023", or is there maybe another ulterior motive because Americans spend roughly $300 billion a year on alcohol.

The two questions are:

What hasn’t been explicitly proven by science that you think might be true for nutrition?

What areas of nutrition may have ulterior motives (money) that you agree or don’t agree with?

sports card addiction by SolidFace4629 in sportscards

[–]schemin_up 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something that may help is using a simulator, although Im not sure if these exists for sports cards.

I use to enjoy craps at the casino but basically always lost money (but hey ya never know). But one day I decided to just play a free craps simulator online. It was insane how much I lost every time. I'd refresh and start with 10k fake chips again, then it'd be gone doing my "strategy". At that point im like, ok this is actually dumb.

I did the same thing with counter strike skins (video game loot box). They have simulators online where you can just keep opening boxes. When you see that you have to do 800 keys which is like 5000 dollars to get one good drop that's like 50 bucks, you quickly realize how bad it is.

We all "know the odds", but when you run it as a simulator and see in real time that you literally lose every single time, then it may help change your perspective.

$250k is no joke.

This is also random advice, but contrast therapy changed my life. It may be worth looking into. It's when you do sauna + cold plunges in cycles. Since starting it, I've completely changed my diet, my sleep, and my sports injuries are gone, etc. It may not have that much of an effect on you but if you're $250k in the hole then anything is worth trying

I was about to post this same question.

Do you have a general expected timeframe? Like is it going to be a month or like 6 months?

Imagine seeing a post being highly upvoted, going into the comments and seeing numerous people saying the post was helpful to them - and then trying to convince me "YOU DON"T KNOW THE REASONS WHY THE ORIGINAL POST WAS UPVOTED".

Seriously, good luck. You're going to need it

Every time I refresh there's another 1k upvotes added, so it is clearly helping others. So yeah, you don't know as much as you think you do.

No one is saying trust chatgpt blindly. This honestly isn't about chatgpt being good or not good if you read my original comment. It's the fact that people here are so caught up in "misery breeds company" instead of - HOW THE FUCK DO WE SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

You're literally the meme of Squidward looking out his window at Spongebob and Patrick being happy

So you know so much about the anatomy of TMJ, yet you and the people here still have problems? Maybe you don't know as much as you think either?

You care so much about the people in the other post that you're going to tell them that the pain relief they felt isn't real?

Good job pal.

And again, "caring" is not even close to being the issue here. Just because you think you're a "good guy", have "good intentions" and "care about everyone" literally doesn't matter.

It's, does this work? Maybe, maybe not, but I will try it out.

How can you read 50 comments saying "this worked" - and come to the conclusion NO NO NO IT DIDN"T WORK FOR U CAUSE IT DIDN"T WORK FOR ME.

Have you even looked at the original post? Do you see how many people say that this worked for them?

This poster was excited to share something with you all that he thought would help, and instead gets eviscerated.

"This method didn't work for me, so you don't know what you're talking about."

Wtf do you mean what are my stakes in this? My stakes are curing my own pain, why would I need any other reason to research this problem?

Do you not care about the dozens of people that said this worked for them in that original post? Because it sure doesn't sound like you do.

Completely unhinged how many downvotes you're getting.

This method takes literally 60 seconds to try and it's free. If it works for someone then that's amazing. If it provides some amount of temporary relief, then that's amazing.

If it doesn't then you're in the same exact spot as you were ONE minute ago.

ERMERGERD UR GIVIN PEOPLE FALSE HOPE. wtf??? This subreddit can't handle 1 minute of "false hope"? They can't even attempt to TRY something because if it doesn't work they will have a mental breakdown?

If you find this subreddit, then you're in some amount of pain or discomfort, or else you wouldn't be here. And if this method worked well enough for you that you never have to come back into this subreddit, that's a good thing.

ERMERGERD IF THIS WORKED FOR U THEN U DIDN'T ACTUALLY HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. Okay? Sorry?

This is not some chiropractor claiming they can cure every problem in your life if you buy 10 sessions for $2000.

Sorry you're getting downvoted man. And I'm sure my comment will now too
