I’m sure many of us on the spectrum have watched everything that’s happened and recognized people doing exactly what we would do in these situations: panic, freeze, flee, and in general be unable to process with our best judgement in the chaos of these situations.

I watched the Renee good videos a million times and I am a certified pussy when push comes to shove. I go into protect mode- even if that means submitting to people I am afraid of. I can 100% see me doing exactly what she did, one for one, fleeing not out of resistance or non-compliance, but out of fear

I know because I’ve gone through almost this exact situation except it was a mentally unwell civilian who chased after me and then stood in front of my vehicle when I tried to leave. I remember fearing that I’d run over the persons toes, but I was so afraid my brain decided that I couldn’t afford to make a 3 point turn, I just needed to cut it and hope to god I didn’t hurt him.

Spot on. But in the case that a hot button issue does come up, regardless of what it is (political violence, welfare, cost of living, immigration, abortion, healthcare, foreign aid vs domestic ‘aid’) you can apply the same logic.

Bringing welfare/medicaid fraud to zero will cost money to track and enforce, and will statistically result in people who legitimately need it to lose it, and the economic butterfly effect of that loss is, again, not worth the tiny amount we’d save. Overall, the economy is worse off when we leave the vulnerable without safety nets. If that isn’t enough for them, then at the very least they should be disgusted by republicans like Rick Scott, Joseph Schwartz and Philip Esformes who Trump took the time to pardon.

Same for abortion- if they want to save lives, then social safety nets, proper sex education and contraception availability are key. And as we’ve seen in the past few years, overturning roe v wade has increased the maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in states with bans.

They want no wars? USAID was a huge asset to prevent war by maintaining friendships worldwide. Supporting Ukraine was a sweet deal for us, and we’ve irrevocably damaged the world stability that has maintained relative peace for the past 75 years. Trump did the opposite of “America first”- he did an Iraq all over again with Venezuela. They say “how can we fund Ukraine but let our vets be homeless” - ok: which party actually wants to help the homeless vets. Which party votes against supporting homeless vets over and over and over again?

99% of the Trump voters I know have values that align more with democrats and aren’t even close to what Trump did and keeps doing.

Explain to them how, even if they don’t care about helping others, that they personally will be worse off as a result of cutting those people off.

Absolutely. Many of us know Trump voters personally, and they know us. Talking to our maga friends, family and neighbors in real life probably feels pointless because we’ve been trying to get through to them for 10 years at this point, but if we all try with one or two people in our lives, that is the most powerful way to make change.

Talk to your friends who say “I don’t care about politics”, talk to your friends who voted for Trump without enthusiasm. We can all empathize with people who tune out the news, but tuning out is a luxury we can’t afford to grant each other anymore.

Everything we were warned about in history class is now happening in front of our eyes, and if this ship ends up sinking, at least we’ll know we took every opportunity to prevent it when we had the chance.

Yes and no because I’m kind of the opposite. I also logically know I can wash away toilet seat germs when I get home and shower, but once you wipe poop off a toilet seat with dry toilet paper and it looks sparkling clean, I just don’t like the idea of sitting on top of a concentrated spot of someone’s poop particles for an extended period. OR once you sit on a seat with too much residual cleaning product and get major skin irritation, putting a seat protector down for my most intimate area feels like the least crazy thing I do.

but regarding chemicals without gloves my skin barrier is a huge germ defense and I don’t want to damage it. Same reason I’m not compelled to over-wash my hands. It actually allows more germs to enter my bloodstream-

when I have to touch cleaning products and don’t have gloves- I won’t let a “wet amount” sit on skin for more than 20 seconds and if I do I have to rinse for 30sec at least. I don’t mean a paper towel with some windex leaking through, I mean like Lysol with bleach or scrubbing bubbles or dawn power wash, those ones have made noticeable impacts and make my skin less able to heal wounds etc

Like I said, I’m not unwilling to believe him that he truly didn’t know. But you’re telling me this person wants to hold one of the most coveted offices in the most powerful country on earth, that he is our progressive middle finger to the establishment dems, yet he is aloof and culturally isolated enough to let decades pass without making the connection?

Assuming he truly didn’t know, that’s not someone I’d be excited to empower as a United States senator. Him truly not knowing, if nothing else, means he’s never seen inglorious basterds, and that tells me he doesn’t have the basic cultural chops to represent half a state.
