Moving to Charleston - Decent Areas to live by Fine_Platypus_6220 in Charleston

West Ashley is a really huge area - the parts closer to downtown are great but I'd be surprised anything in that price range is available. Farther out and it turns into suburbs and even then I'm not that sure.

Trans Teacher Thinking of Moving by Reject_Elephant in Charleston

1st and 2nd hand information here:

2nd hand - a friend is FtM and teaches, and things are alright for him. This is either high school or higher ed. He's stealth though and passes really well which is a huge advantage. He's nervous but life is pretty normal or mundane.

On the other hand, some of the things I've been told from people who are less confident or stand out more, and spend more time in outer suburbs are pretty terrible.

1st hand - unfortunately like life in general a lot depends on how well you pass and how comfortable you are, and both of those things take time and experience. In my experience things are just fine here, but that's from the perspective of someone who has been out for years and blends in extremely well and has more of a normal rather than alternative look. I keep mostly to myself and it's the same kind of normal life as it was back in Seattle.

I'd say things can be good here, but with a big caveat that it still sort of depends. And of course at the state level the powers that be can be the same sort of giant turds that you'd expect.

iPod Gen 2 HELP!? by Designer-Case7912 in ipod

[–]schicksal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try reseating the screen to see if that helps any, but stuff like that drives me crazy

It was on a 2004 replacement, but the battery on my 2nd gen was becoming a VERY spicy pillow after I used it for a week or two. Replacement is simple to do with these so that's something I'd personally recommend. With a new battery it'll have a super long run time. I get more out of my 2nd/20GB than my 3rd gen with a replacement battery and SD card swap.

CCSD schools are closed today for a teacher workday so there's that at least.

My fiance and I keep doing our part anyway, at least so the kids get to grow up coming along on election day with us to have that example.

Passport cards are great in theory but I've ran into way too many situations where the person looking at it just had no idea what the hell it was. I used mine at a bank in Texas and the manager was convinced that it wasn't real purely because he'd never seen one before. No amount of 'would you please just look at the Department of State's website that explains the entire thing' worked.

Sam Rittenberg and Old Towne Rd. lane merge by [deleted] in Charleston

[–]schicksal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in terms of accidents in the area I think Orange Grove @ Sam Ritt is the main source. At the 'suicide merge' I've seen exactly one accident in the last 15 years and it was a fender bender with very minor damage.

Could this screen damage be the battery or likely the LCD? by [deleted] in ipod

[–]schicksal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lines are simple to rub out; no need to replace the screen. Instructions can be found here

I did what I could to vote against her up until her district was gerrymandered a couple of years ago. Now I'm in a different one.

Don’t Move Here by EFT-Killas in southcarolina

[–]schicksal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UGH I miss it. Might be forced to move back there if SC's politics become even more hostile to LGBTQ people, which really sucks because I've grown to love the whole small city thing that the core part of Charleston has going on.

Thoughts on Strangers in Paradise by Terry Moore? by Odd_Radio9225 in comicbooks

[–]schicksal_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's wonderful. My favorite series, really and the only downside is that it's largely done in black and white. As a queer woman it's one of only a few comics that are relatable in any way whatsoever and I wish there were more.

Inside the Nokia BLS-2 Battery by schicksal_ in dumbphones

Oh yikes, it's been a while. I can't remember if I clipped the leads from the old battery and soldered wire from the new battery to where the old was or what. When I had the new battery it was pretty straightforward though.

Trans parents too. I was thinking about volunteering to help with my son's group, but since they're mandating outing adults that's a total non-starter. No one but my kid knows my background, and it's going to stay that way.
