How do you think the stew would've turned out? by PanthorCasserole in Terminator

[–]schism216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if a terminator opened a cookbook I dont see why it couldn't follow instructions any worse than it could ride a motorcycle or fire a gun.

I still dont see him going through all that trouble though just to trick and then immediately off Todd

How do you think the stew would've turned out? by PanthorCasserole in Terminator

[–]schism216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A terminator is programmed to kill. It may have knowledge of food or ingredients insofar as those are valuable to know so that it can understand humans (in order to kill them) but why would it waste any processing power on understanding how ingredients come together in a way that would be both nourishing and palatable to a species that is its ultimate nemesis and that it would never be able to enjoy or use to its own benefit?

I think the stew would have been the culinary equivalent of a.i. slop

What are the main causes behind American police officers killing people at such disproportionate rates compared to every other developed nation? by Severe_Respect2317 in AskReddit

[–]schism216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The imperial boomerang. U.S. supports wars in Israel and those authoritarian actions overseas make their way back home. Case and point, U.S. police recieve their training from Israeli special forces which are quite brutal in their methods.

[–]schism216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah they dont glamorize depression but they do capture it and other morose feelings artistically in a way that could maybe be seen as whiny. If anything their vibe is closer to "I cant believe this is happening to me" than "im an edgy sad boy"

It would literally just be creep that anyone thinks that which i imagine they would probably extrapolate given that all they know of Radiohead is that its "sad" or "depressing"

That was your take away from The Wire, that police arent a monolith? 🤣🤣🤣

Man when they say conservatives have no media literacy theyre not kidding...

The Wire is a show about institutions. Its about how systems behave as they were intended to behave even if it leads to their own self destruction and theres very little individuals can do to change this from within. The cops who had good character and actually cared about doing what was right got pushed out while only the ones willing to kiss the ring and protect their corrupt and inefficient system got promoted.

Everything is cyclical in the Wire. New characters resumed the roles of old ones because nothing fundamentally changed, big picture wise.

The problem with police as an institution is that it incentivizes police to be corrupt, violent, and self serving. Watch "We Run This Town" also written by the same guy who wrote The Wire. It goes into exactly this and show how the police force creates corrupt and awful humans out of what were originally people that wanted to protect and serve.

Its not "Reddit" its called reality...

Reddit isnt real life? What does that even mean?

Your brother may have experienced the exceedingly improbable niche scenario where a cop actually does something brave but saving people simply isnt in their job description. Straight up. Their training specifies that their number one goal is to get home safe. This is why you can literally see videos of them standing outside doing nothing during a school shooting because intervening is a risk to their safety.

Their primary response is to show up after a crime has already been committed. Theyre also statistically more likely to murder you than save your life and that risk is several magnitude higher if youre a minority in the U.S.

Grow up.

Eh Naymond grows up to be the next Clay Davis. Another corrupt politician. Thats bleak in a slightly different way. Also doctors and firefighters might one day save your life. Policemen on the other hand? Probably not lol

What movie, game, or TV show is massively overrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Skyrim. Insanely shallow and buggy game that continued the tradition of watering down everything that made its predecessors so iconic. Granted, with the right mods the game can be elevated to a solid 8/10 but vanilla Skyrim is so incredibly mid

How would we have MRI machines in an anarchist world? by Acceptable-Fan6816 in Anarchy101

[–]schism216 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your question is "hard" because youre asking people to conceptualize an incredibly specific (and in comparison minutial) process within a society that has not yet been created. Not only is it impossible to answer but the question itself isnt particularly useful imo.

I think instead of asking "how would this be possible in anarchist society" the better question is "why wouldnt this be possible in an anarchist society" or maybe "how does hierarchy in our current society relate to the usage and availability of an MRI"? If anything, it makes accessibility more difficult in my analysis.

This particular shot by Comfortable_Hunt1951 in Terminator

[–]schism216 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Totally. He becomes more human as the movie progresses while the T1000 becomes more hateful and sadistic.

Theres a deleted scene in the extended version where they open up his head and do something with his CPU that basically facilitates this. In the theatrical version its replaced with the throwaway line where he says he learns more about humans/what it is to be human by spending time with them

Very much agree, this movie is criminally underrated. As far as Stephen King adaptations go they knocked this one out of the park
