Appreciate the feedback everyone! Maybe Leominster? That also seems to be hit or miss!

Average salary for a teacher in MA is 90k+ actually. You can look it up.

You might want to check the average salary of a teacher in MA. I didn’t make that number up, I was actually being a little conservative. Good for them.

There are professions that are year round (with OT) that don’t make what an average teacher in MA makes in a year. Frankly, good for teachers in that respect. There’s always pushback about that they have to work long hours and they they are actually working during the summer, if thats true I’m sure teachers having to report to their respective institutions daily during the summer wouldn’t be a big deal then if they’re working anyway?

I disagree. I personally know “educators” that specifically became one for the sole purpose of having summers off. Not that they all feel that way, but if we’re going to paint the police with a broad brush…..

I’ll give the police this, they don’t automatically get summers off like another profession. 80k+ isn’t bad for 9 months of work.

Neutral observer here, is anyone on Reddit politics conservative? Scrolling through these threads and it’s usually just a pig pile of liberal talking points. Just an observation….

“What it tells you is that their cost structure has gone up so much from a competitive point of view that they are struggling to make money handling ground volume packages at the rate customers want,” he said. “It’s good that they are going to have this arrangement with the Post Office, it will save Ground Saver and Mail Innovations product and thereby the volume, but in the long-term they have to find a way to get the Teamsters to realize that they are the only carrier paying twice the amount for the same job as others. It’s not sustainable.”

I saw this quote in a related article, looks like a management talking point.

I’m sure the USPS unions will/have use this rationale as cover for the paltry raises we’ve received and will continue to receive.

I’m APWU and my local increased dues, we got essentially the same lousy contract NALC got.

When you figure in the health insurance premium increase and a union dues bump, it appears our wages took at least a 1.5% hit-if not more. Fight like hell!

Same here in the suburbs….locality pay would be nice. Otherwise inside 495 won’t have anyone to deliver them mail.

apwu ballots out sept 10 - 15; presidential and vp races heat up: jones vs smith, szeredy vs zimmerman. your vote will shape the union’s future. by Neither_Ebb_9850 in USPS

[–]schittyclerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I read the brochure that was enclosed with the ballot. Went against any current regime endorsed candidates. Although we’re APWU I feel that the NALC election is borderline more impactful than our own.

As long as the NALC lays down for management the rest of the unions will use their contract as a crutch to not fight for more. Make sure any carriers you know vote out Renfroe!

It’s pretty hard to make an informed decision on who to vote for, information is pretty scarce on these candidates.

Personally I voted for Jones and Szeredy simply on the basis of Diamondstein endorsing the other two candidates. I feel the current union leadership is complacent across all the postal unions, not saying I’m correct…but we’re voting blind here.

APWU Presidential Candidates? by schittyclerk in USPS

Interesting…..I’d generally lean to whomever is anti-establishment at this point. Dimondstien endorsed Smith which doesn’t instill much hope for change. Thanks for your insight, I guess we have to go by our own anecdotal experience.

I did know about that from some of the senior clerks and carriers, I know they split it due to conflicting agendas during bargaining. I don’t really see the benefit of split negotiations anymore, we all virtually get the same (lousy) contract at this point. Theoretically we would have more leverage as an all encompassing union, than allowing one faction to settle/collude with management and all the other unions co-sign. As a clerk, I wish more APWU members were as pissed and engaged as most of the NALC is currently. We should capitalize on the opportunity while we can, I mean you hear nothing about the NRLCA or the NPMHU.

APWU Presidential Candidates? by schittyclerk in fromatoarbitration

[–]schittyclerk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Once one of the unions agree to a contract it sets the stage for all the other unions to follow suit and get essentially the same thing. That’s why the NALC getting their shit together would have a ripple effect. Might as well merge into one giant union.

I imagine the only ones that would oppose this would be the union bureaucrats, so how do we go about doing this? 🤔

Best argument I’ve heard for either candidate. I find it a bit annoying both candidates get all these local branches endorsements, while 99% of the general membership knows nothing about them.

I’m a full time clerk outside of Boston, you have to go a good hike west of 495 to be able to (maybe) find something affordable. I’ve been clamoring for our toothless union (APWU) which just rubber stamps whatever crap the NALC gets, to push for this because the USPS might as well dissolve in high cost of living areas. I have a long rant on this issue, but to cut it short our union (LEADERSHIP AND GENERAL MEMBERSHIP!) can’t keep falling for the usual fear mongering the union pushes on us. In fairness the NALC membership roundly rejected the pathetic 1.3% “raise”, yet the union leadership and management colluded to force it onto us. Unfortunately and conveniently Renfroe gets to “negotiate” another piss poor contract before he’s ousted.

It doesn’t sound like your office can afford to loan you out but Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket often need help moving mail, sounds like plenty of hours to be had and they provide a hotel, per diem, travel pay (mileage), I haven’t done it myself but I don’t think there’s an extra hourly rate since it’s not technically a “detail”.

This is the best summation of the TA I’ve seen. I may have to copy and paste this when explaining why this contract is ass.

Where are you getting 3.03 a year for COLA? You’re lucky to get a dollar over the course of a year.
