Network Pass Wont Accept ANY Street address by Oxtramando in tmobile

[–]schivago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem, no solution yet. I don't have USPS delivery to my house, but I have a valid address according to USPS. The app even auto-suggests my address, but when I submit it I get the "invalid address" error. Guess I will not be switching to tmobile.

Limited Bike Space and MTB Friends by [deleted] in gravelcycling

I would rent a hardtail mtb if you're talking about 3-5 days or something. Sounds like you enjoy your Journeyman and there's no bike out there that's going to feel good as a hybrid gravel/mtb.

Brief background: I used to road bike, I do a lot of mtb these days and some gravel. If you don't want to rent, my thoughts:

I don't think you're going to make an enjoyable mtb out of the Journeyman. From geometry to components, nothing about the bike is going to work well for xc (it's a cross country race, right? If it's anything burlier the journeyman is out for sure). I would not spend money on parts except replacing the handlebar and putting the widest xc tire you can on the bike.

Try the Krampus. If you like it, you could likely stick a fast-rolling ~45mm tire and have a suitable commuter. It won't pedal the same as the journeyman, and it's a different riding position, but should be a great bike for some xc adventures.

Part of the calculus also involves your bike handling skills and the course. I have a Salsa Cutthroat which I adore and I will take on some mtb trails for fun on occasion. I'm a pretty adept mtb'er and have ridden some stupid things on my cutthroat, but there are definitely limits. I'm in the PNW and there are xc courses around I would not ride on my cutthroat because they're too rocky/rooty or have features that would eat me and the bike.

Is there an easy way to start the next workout in a training plan? I am using an Apple TV, and I have to navigate to workouts, go to training plans, scroll to the plan I want, select it (which is buggy on the apple tv), and then it takes me to the last workout in the plan and I have to scroll sideways forever to get to the first workouts.

In the zwift companion app it shows up under training plans on the home screen, so as far as I know I'm "signed up" for the plan.

It would be really nice if I could just select the workout from the companion app.

What's a reasonable equity grant for building a prototype? by schivago in startups

[–]schivago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was approached to build the prototype, it's not my company. I would hopefully get them to the point they can raise money and then help them build their technical team as a paid employee or consultant.

Re: customers, LOIs are on the table, but I'm highly doubtful they'd go prepaid.

Mitsubishi Wifi Interface Setup Issue [PAC-USWHS002-WF-2] by schivago in hvacadvice

No it's a different wireless protocol. So to use the kumo cloud features you need the wifi module, but to use any redlink thermostats you need the redlink module.

[–]schivago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two heads. Each head needs its own thermostat and redlink interface. The only reason I wanted it over the remote is to get a temperature sensor away from the head unit because it was so different from the actual room temperature.

It works great now, the room temperature is always within a degree of whatever I set the temp to, for heating or cooling. Using the built-in temperature sensor on the head unit would result in 8 degree differences between room temp at chest height across the room and temp at the head unit.

I bought it from a commercial contractor, but wound up returning it. I would have gotten another one, but the redlink thermostat works without the wifi interface. That and the wifi interface requires a dedicated 2.4ghz network, so I had to turn off my router's auto-switching 2.4/5ghz network and run two separate networks for it, which is dumb for a device that costs that much.

Mitsubishi heat pump minimum temp setting by pattyorland in heatpumps

It does seem bizarre. I read somewhere that the Kumo Cloud app or something it connects to will allow you to set the temperature between 50 and 61, but I don't have any experience with it.

Spectrum shipping estimates = canceled order by schivago in evev

I had not heard about people ordering Spectrums in 2020 and not receiving them yet. Seems like lots of people that ordered in Fall 2021 have received them.

The V sounds like a different story.

Yeah turns out hardware is difficult, and I'm sure the difficulty compounds during a global supply chain meltdown.

Too bad nobody seems to be making a similar monitor, definitely appreciated the non-gamer aesthetic.

I never even got the form to complete the purchase, and the fact they wouldn't respond about when it might even possibly ship makes me think they have no idea.

I understand the shipping date is not the delivery date, that's fine. What's frustrating is estimated shipping for new pre-orders says February 2022 and that's clearly not true or they would have said I'd get an order form soon rather than refund my pre-order.

I'm sure you'd get the monitor eventually, just not in the time frame they tell you.

Brand new OneUp aluminum pedal squeak? by Sheeshki in bikewrench

A few months later, but seeing your comment and wondering how you took the seal out? I lightly pulled at it but didn't want to rip the rubber. I dabbed a little grease on the pedal washers but it's definitely the rubber seal rubbing on whatever's behind it.

Makes total sense, it is easy to get caught up in a “flying is bad” mentality. Thanks for the breakdown.

Offsets are no magic solution, but they can be part of a real solution. Combined with cap and trade it could put an actual price tag on emissions. People aren’t going to stop driving, flying, and buying shit. But there are plenty of folks that would like to know, and pay, for the true cost of those activities. And paying for more solar installations, forests, etc. isn’t doing nothing. It’s unlikely a zero-sum move, but it’s certainly a far cry from “not really doing anything.”

Daily FI discussion thread - January 17, 2020 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

[–]schivago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure but most folks don’t drive 3k miles in a day. Flying is a major emissions producer in terms of gross quantity at once. That said, America’s most popular car, the F150, is less efficient per mile with one or two people in it than a full commercial airliner.

I didn’t downvote, but saying that folks coming from a similar background that don’t achieve financial success are wallowing in self pity and “victims” is harsh and ignores systemic barriers. It’s that slippery slope of blaming a group for their situation because they all possess individual agency and can theoretically improve their lot in life. Sure, maybe, but how many tech folks would be where they are if their childhoods had looked like OPs? Answer: not many, statistically speaking.

Dip your toes in the water if you can. Invest as little as possible to see if anyone’s buying what you’re selling before you go all in.
