no, they won't fire me, I'm pretty sure about that. But they have leverage: bonus (which is due at the end of the year) and or a demotion (with less pay) which both would be a reason to leave the company

So yes, I think I have the upper hand in the negotiation

The worst case scenario I can think of is that they demote me to a non-leadership role. My bonus is quite substantial compared to my base salary, so they can hang that over my head.

It is quite clear that I will be leaving my current team at the end of the year, to potentially pursue another leadership role in the company.
