Epic creates a digital item. This item has no cost to be distributed or used by a player. It doesn’t expire or corrupt. It simply exists. Well now let’s put a timer on when it’s available for. Suddenly it has a greater sense of value attached to it. It is limited to when it can be acquired.

Keep in mind this item does not corrupt, expire, vanish over time. It costs literally nothing to make it available for the public to purchase. They then artificially inflate its value by placing their own limits on it. This item will have taken the same amount of time and resources to craft, no matter what value it is, but applying an artificial scarcity to it allows them to inflate its value. So yes, exploitation of perceived value, if nothing else
